The People’s Horse

“The People’s Horse”

As the sun rises and another morning of trackwork comes to an end, a lone figure leans on the rail with his stopwatch. He know’s the final sectionals that his stable’s latest star was nothing less than impressive.

Just 4 starts ago a 3 year old filly by the unheard of Luhuk was running around in claiming races and while putting in some good performances, claimers looked to be where she would stay.

That was until she caught the eye of a young trainer from Australia.

Billy2shoe saw something special in Not A Moo Cow that thus far no one else had ……. “I claimed her, she caught my eye.”

And his eye she caught. 3 starts later the filly that was given another go became a stakes winner and not just a stakes winner, she won the G3 Panhandle Oaks by 2.5 lengths smashing her rivals.

A horse/trainer team combo. has never been so strong, as Not A Moo Cow completed her work, Billy greeted her with a gentle touch and a whisper in the ear, he has the horse that many in the world of racing try to achieve but many go a lifetime without. He has a star.

But he is more than willing to share the success of the filly with the public, the people who have rallied behind this gal in her last few, they have come from the woodwork and she has developed a huge following. Billy was more than impressed with the recent reception she received;

“In Wisconsin she is known as the cheeseburger……..& they chant her name”

She has now graced the track with her presence 18 times and won 7 of them, her recent Oaks win being the career highlight so far. Under the new orders of 2shoe she has had 3 starts for 2 wins and a second and not yet ran below mid 90’s.

So what now for the cheeseburger? Straight to the bargainbred fillies and mares turf distaff. Not only does she line up for it but she will start a short 6/5 favourite, the punters love her and money has come from all corners of the globe for the one who was almost lost in sim wilderness. Danny Mitchens of Mitchen’s bookies service commented mid week…

“The support for Not A Moo Cow has been amazing, and why not after her big win last start, her form is as good as any for this and she’ll be extremely hard to beat. I know I certainly stand to lose a bundle should she come in. I won’t put her out above 6/5.

And its nothing but smiles in the Billy2shoe camp, as he headed back to his barns this morning he jokingly asked fellow trainers robscoobi, bamstables, dukesn and deyoto “Do I need an excuse to tell you about my gem claimer….I could go on all day!”

But as this day draws to an end, billy knows that stakes winners are all too hard to come by (this being his first) and he humbily states “she is the people’s horse.” All eyes will be on the cheeseburger tomorrow as she steps out onto the track and no doubt tears will fall from the cheeks of 2shoe should she cross the line first, afterall he always knew she could do it.
