Welcome to race seven of todays Minnesota spectacular, The St. legless Allowance over 12f on the turf course. This one’s named in honour of the late season British classic the St. Leger and with a field of seventeen promises to be some race.
On the morning line around half the field look to have a good chance with the other half seemingly outclassed. But this is a 3Yo race so there will be some big improvers here and likely some surprises.
ORGULLO CUIDADANO has been running in stakes races at distances between 9-12f. His best runs have come over 9-10f which being by Proud Citizen is probably as far as he wants. Todays trip looks too far, seemingly confirmed by a recent disapointment at this distance. Can reach the top five at best.
IRISH WINGS(GB)is another who’s best runs have been at 9-10f and he blew up badly in his latest run over todays trip. He looks a miler or extended miler to me and again he can reach the top five at best.
LOWLANDS LONGEE(IRE) is an outsider having only just won his maiden. However he looks to need the distance bewing by Black Tie Affair and a Rainbow Quest mare and should improve. The question is wether he can improve enough. Expect a better run that the odds suggest with an outside chance at a top five finish.
SEATTLE GRINDSTONE The biggest outsider in the field and rightly so, she’s been running pretty poorly at allowance level at around a mile. Should habndle the turf but the distance is a complete unknown. Not good enough today.
HARD MISS Loks a major player here. He has been running in allowances at around 9f but improved marketly in his last two runs over 10.5f and 12f.- both in stakes races. Likes to sit handy just of the front and will get a good tow with todays big field. Definate top three finish and the likely winner for me.
GROOMBRIDGE(IRE) Is another who’s got better the farther he’s gone. He’s only just won his maiden though over 9f and this is a sharp rise in distance. Being by Theatrical though he’ll should get the trip. Another who could be anything and improve into the top five or end up in the last five.
A NOTCH ABOVE Imperial pedigree here but the distance looks too far. Forty Niner is known for 9f horses not a mile and a half. Will struggle to reach the top ten.
ELECTRODYNAMICS Has just been getting home over an extended mile and folded in the last quarter over 10f lataest. Will not get the trip and will finish outside the top ten.
ROYAL GUEST Has had some good recent runs at stakes level around todays distance but has also thrwon in some absolute shockers. Clearly not to be relied on he has the talent to win or the temprement to finiosh last. On a going day would be definite top three but who knows ?
BROOKSY Has run her best races over less than a mile and is another who will struggle with the trip today. She will shoot out to an early lead but will be treading water by the 10f mark. Outside the top 10.
ROCK VALDES(IRE) HAs been running mostly in claimers and the pedigree is screaming out for 12f, being by Rock of Gibralter. However she has run with some promise at 10-11f and may indeed get the trip. Even if she does though she doesn’t look good enough to win. Running for minor places at best.
SIR LOIN She definately gets the trip having won a stakes over 11f, and in this line up that amounts to some of the best form on offer. Will be closing late and should make the top three. Bg danger and may even get the win.
EVIL BALLET Has won well over 10f and is progrssing with each rise in trip- however he didn’t seem to hadnle the soft going latest and with todays forecast that’s a worry. If he does handle the surface he can reach the top three.
THE GB BOSS(GB) Ran well in a maiden over 7f but has the look of a miler and will certainly not get this trip yet. Too much on her plate here.
ALL FED UP IOs another who’ll relish the trip and he must rate as a danger. Seems to find one too good too often though and for me will not get an easy lead that he likes due to the presence of the sprinters in the field. Can get out near the lead and hold on for a top five finish.
THE RIVER RED Struggled over 10f latest having ran well over 8-9f previously. Is another then who’ll struggle with the trip and cannot reach the frame.
FEVER BURNING Should get the distance and ran a cracker latest. Will be coming home with a wet sail imn a late run and rates main danger status to the selection. Can certainly win but for me will be going home with silver.
A fascinating race then in which the distance seems to be the main factor. With a lot of the field looking unlikely to get home. some who are just plain unknown and a few who will get there for sure.
