Recap  Grade-1  BREEDERS’ BOWL TURF ( CA ) 11/03/12

Dynamic Force exerts “dynamic” stretch move to romp in Breeders’ Bowl Turf

If you were watching the Breeder Bowl Turf in the old viewer, with just 3 furlongs to go at the 9 furlong marker, all you saw was Trainer Udhens young 3 year old Overindulgence had a comfortable 4 length lead over the only other runner in the picture trainer Musse’s King Tachyon. You have to feel for trainer Udhens and Musse as what looked like a fairly safe 1 – 2 finish radically changed just 1 scant furlong later. As the runners reached the 10 furlong stretch,  the complexion took a drastic twist, first trainer Jdrhys’s Dynamic Force entered the picture, moving like a twister, followed by trainer eml1’s Signs Of Change and suddenly by mid stretch Dynamic Force quickly ran by the tiring Overindulgence to grab the lead and signs Of Change was also rapidly gaining on the the early leader. At the finish line Dynamic Force, who was still gaining momentum had galloped home in hand with 4 lengths to spare. Overindulgence, had summoned up every ounce of energy he had left to somehow hold off the hard charging Signs Of Change and preserve the place finish by ½ a length. Trainer Phantom2’s Capinsky, the betting favorite, overcame a 24 length deficit at the 2nd call to catch the tired, fading King Tachyon in mid stretch for 4th.

Immediately as the gate opened, Overindulgence proved that he’s arguably the premier turf speedster in the Sim as he bolted out to a solid 1 ¼ length advantage over trainer Rapt’s colt Maximum Spell and it was another ½ length back to King Tachyon. The stalkers The Dozens, K’s Stagflation and Signs Of Change had to settle in 5 to 8 lengths back due to the torrid early pace. The rest of the field led by Stormhill Dancer and Dynamic Force were already at least 9 lengths back as their jockey’s rated them patiently, letting the hot early pace take it’s toll.

Overindulgence was really firing hard and the hot half mile pace of 46:86 was already starting to spread the field out. Only Maximum Spell and King Tachyon were in striking distance of the early leader and It was rapidly becoming a question of whether any of them would survive to contend at the finish line.

As the field hit the 6 furlong marker, Overindulgence was still running full bore and it was starting to look like he might pull off the wire to wire upset. Due to the hot pace, attrition was already starting to take a toll. King Tachyon had moved into 2nd and while he loomed boldly, he didn’t seem to be making headway on catching the leader. Maximum Spell was in 3rd, but was now 8 lengths back and several of the stalkers and mid pack runners were closing in on him. Dynamic Force, Signs Of Change and Gran Torino were moving forward and trying to move into contention but The Dozens and K’s Stagflation, despite good early position, were now both struggling to keep in contact with the lead group. Of the rest only Capinsky was moving forward positively, but he still had 19 lengths to make up and only half the race to do it, Sound Of Souls, Can I Get Twelve and Got To The Top were being roused by their jockey’s but none of them were making much headway and the rest were in an obvious struggle just to get to the wire.

In the end, hats come off to Dynamic Force, who ran an almost perfect race and Overindulgence, who ran the race of his life and would have been a winner on most days with his effort. By the way as a side note, the 3 year olds combined to reward their Exacta backers with a healthy $ 797 payoff. J  BBB … bring back betting !! J

Race Comments:  (in order of finish)

DYNAMIC FORCE:  mid pack early, rated well and moved into striking position willingly at 3rd call. Powerful stretch rally left no doubt who was the best this day. Scary J performance and 120.379 speed figure is proof, he’s for real.

OVERINDULGENCE:  streaked out to early lead, opened up a good lead and looked a winner at 8 furlongs, but couldn’t match strides with the winner and needed every ounce of energy to preserve 2nd, proved he’s not a fainthearted speedster as he left everything on the track.

SIGNS OF CHANGE:  good stalking position in 6th, rated nicely and was charging hard the final 3  furlongs, just missed 2nd in an excellent good performance that may have been good enough to win on another day.

CAPINSKY:  alone at the back early, conceded 24 ½ lengths at the 2nd call, furious rally in the final 4 furlongs and was running fastest of all at the wire.

KING TACHYON:  stalked early leader moved into prominent contention in 2nd at 6 furlongs but couldn’t gain on early leader, tired badly last 2 furlongs and settled for decent 5th place finish.

GRAN TORINO:  mid pack early, improved position with minor move from 4 to 8 furlongs, but flattened out and hung entering the stretch.

SOUND OF SOULS:  mid pack early, even effort, improved position late with moderate stretch move.

GOT TO THE TOP:  13th position early, drifted back and started a good rally the last 4 furlongs but too late to reach contention.

CAN I GET TWELVE:  reserved near the back in 11th early, conceded 20 lengths at 4 furlongs, minor rally late to catch tired stretch runners.

THE DOZENS:  good stalking position at 2nd call, still prominent at 6 furlongs, no response and slowly faded back..

K’S STAGFLATION:  applied pressure to early leader, hung on until 6 furlongs and then lost contact and entering stretch drive and faded from contention.

MAXIMUM SPELL:  applied early pressure on leader to 4 furlongs, still in the hunt at 6 furlongs, tired badly the last 4 furlongs.

TITLE DEFENSE:  despite saving ground early near the rear of the field, had no response late and was never prominent.

STORMHILL DANCER:  broke mid pack 7th from gate, but quickly retreated from contention and was under wraps in the stretch.
