The Personal Sign

There are many graded races on the card here in New York for this upcoming weekend, including the prestigious Travelers Stakes (G1). But here we will turn our attention to the ladies and The Personal Sign (G1), which is set to go off on Saturday with a post time of 3:00 PM EST. There should be clear skies on raceday, leaving us with a main dirt track that will be listed as fast at post time. The race is open to fillies and mares three-years-old and up and will be run over a mile and a quarter. This year all contenders for the race were bred in Kentucky. Let’s take a look through this year’s eight fillies going to the gate. 

  1. I’m Manda Fly Me – newtonheath – P. Haynes – 7/1 

The only graded stakes winner by Mandaloun will be in our next slot. The four-year-old bay filly has finished on the board eleven times in her fourteen career starts. The most recent start for the filly came last month in Louisiana during the Grumpy Old Man Marathon (G2) at a mile and five-eighths. Stalking the pace in second early, the filly fell back in the stretch to cross the wire in third, setting a speed figure of one hundred seven. She would have her most recent victory overseas in Japan this past May during The Long Walk Home (G3) at a mile and three-quarters. The bay filly would take the field from gate to wire in the marathon dirt race, winning by three lengths and recording a lfietime best speed figure of one hundred twelve. 

2. Sia Siberia – beerkeg30 – R. Hansen – 6/1 

This four-year-old light gray filly is a scratch bred by Tapit who has won five out of seventeen career starts to date. The most recent start for the Kentucky-bred came in The Very Vane (G1) at a mile and one-eighth across the country in California last month. Forwardly placed and stalking just off the pace in fourth early, she began to sneak up on the other runners midway through the race but wasn’t able to get by the front runner as she would come home to finish second, setting a speed figure of one hundred twelve.  She won her prior start which took place in April during The Nutty Squirrel Stakes (G1) at a mile and a quarter. With a similar running style in this race, she would take over the pace in the stretch before winning by half a length. 

3. Pictures Crazy – asrcurlin – J. Wilson – 6/1 

Winner of an End Of Year, the four-year-old filly will be making her fourteenth career start this weekend. The scratch bred brown filly most recently started in Florida during the Beach Day Stakes (G2) at a mile and a quarter this past May. Eighth out of the gate, the filly wouldn’t start gaining ground until midway through the race before ultimately going on to win by three and a quarter lengths and recording a speed figure of one hundred fifteen. The filly would finish fifth in last year’s Breeder’s Bowl Distaff (G1) as well. 

4. War Poet – cajuncowboy2 – La. Ferguson – 5/1 

This brown filly is seeking out her first Grade I victory this weekend, making just her second start against this level of company. The most recent start for the four-year-old came this past May during the First State Distaff (G2) at a mile and a quarter. Out of the gate just off the pace in second, the filly stalked the pace early and took over the pace midway through the race. She would win the race by half a length, fending off a late closing challenger and setting a speed figure of one hundred eleven. Her only other Grade I start was in July of last year during the Players Club National Oaks (G1) over the same distance in which she would finish sixth. 

5. Break Barriers – mavrick – J. Chafield – 5/1 

Making her fifteenth career start this Saturday, the four-year-old bay filly by Street Sense most recently started last month in Delaware during the First State Distaff (G2) at a mile and a quarter. Sent out of the gate to the middle of the pack in sixth, the filly would start to make a steady run midway through the race, setting a speed figure of one hundred ten, though only a length and a half off the pace of the winner. Prior to this she would secure her only graded placing in the Bringing Up The Rear Classic (G3) at a mile and three-sixteenths.  The most recent win for the filly was in late February during a listed stakes race in Arizona at ten furlongs. Forwardly placed leaving the gate, the filly would stalk the pace in second before taking over the lead halfway through the race and eventually winning by one and three-quarter lengths. 

6. Rule By Law – saga28 – F. Gossett – 9/2 

Sired by Constitution, this four-year-old bay filly is graded placed, looking for her first graded win this weekend. She is out of the Grade I winning dam Red Day Dawning, whose three offspring have all gone on to become listed stakes winners. The most recent start for this filly was last month during the First State Distaff (G2) at a mile and a quarter in Delaware. Out of the gate in seventh, she would gradually work he way towards the front and cross the wire in fourth, setting a speed figure of one hundred nine. Her most recent win was November of last year during a listed stakes race in Arkansas over the same distance. More forwardly paced in third out of the gate, the filly took over the pace midway through the race and would win by four and a half lengths. 

7. Underground Weapon – socalman – C. Mecklenberg – 6/1 

Drawing into the race off of two consecutive wins, the four-year-old chestnut filly is looking for her first graded stakes win. The most recent start for the daughter of Gun Runner came in late June during a listed stakes race over ten furlongs in Louisiana. The filly wired the race, crossing the finish line by the impressive margin of five lengths while setting a speed figure of one hundred fifteen, which is a lifetime best speed figure for the filly. Her other win was in May here in New York during an allowance race at nine and a half furlongs in which she also took the field from gate to wire, winning by over seventeen lengths. Her most recent graded start was in November of last year, also here in New York. This came in the mile and one-eighth The Hunted By Lions (G2). Unable to get the lead at the break, the filly stalked the pace in third before dropping back in the stretch to cross the wire in eighth. 

8. Pirate Magictfon29 – A. Jolly – 7/1 

Coming into the race off of two consecutive wins, the chestnut filly will be making her twenty-first lifetime start on Saturday. The most recent start for the four-year-old was in a listed stakes race over nine furlongs in Oregon this past June. Out of the gate in sixth, the filly would take over the pace midway through the race and would win by five and three-quarter lengths while setting a speed figure of one hundred sixteen, which is a lifetime best for the filly. Her other win was this past May during the Poor Mona Lisa Handicap (G3) over the same distance. She was slightly father off the pace in  this spot, through would still go on to win by a length.
