Frickazee Stakes

The highlight race for this weekend in New York will be the Frickazee Stakes (G1), which will be held over a mile on the dirt and will be open to two-year-old fillies. The Grade I stakes race, offering up a total purse of $750,000 is set to go off this Saturday at 3:00 pm EST. This years’ race has attracted a full field of fourteen fillies. The track looks like it will be set as fast for this weekend, despite some rain earlier in the week. Let’s take a look at the field that will be heading to the starting gate.

  1. Comeback This Way – worldclass18 – N. Painter – 9/1

Loading into the gate on the inside rail, this filly will be making her second graded start this weekend and her sixth lifetime start overall. The most recent start for the bay filly was across the country in California during the Dell Computer Debutante (G1) at seven furlongs. The filly was held just off the pace out of the gate, laying back in second, running right along with the other filly who kept her head in front. The filly would fade late in the stretch after her speed dual to cross the wire third while setting a speed figure of eighty-nine. Her prior race resulted in a win, which was an allowance race over seven furlongs, also in California, on a dirt track rated as good.

2. Pistols In The Air – asrstar18 – M. Buck – 12/1

Making her graded stakes debut this weekend, the daughter of War Front is coming off of two consecutive wins at the allowance level. All of the brown fillies prior races have come in Kentucky, and the most recent of which was an allowance race over a mile on the dirt. The filly trailed the short four-horse field early on, back off the pace in the back by seven lengths. She wasn’t asked to make her move on the field until late in the stretch, where she did go on to cross the wire in front by two and a half lengths. The filly would equal a lifetime best speed figure of eighty-one that she had previously achieved in her prior start, an allowance race over seven furlongs on the turf.

3. City Of Wrong – americanasr – A. Rolling – 13/1

The first of our fillies in the race to have already won a graded stakes, this bay filly most recently started in California during the Dell Computer Debutante (G1) at seven furlongs. The filly was out of the gate towards the rear of the field as seems to suit her late closing running style. However, the daughter of City Of Light never seemed to fire in this race, crossing the wire in tenth while setting a speed figure of eighty-one. Her prior start came in May during the Butterfly Futurity (G3) at six furlongs in her native Kentucky. Again, towards the back of the field at the start, she made a late closing run down the stretch to win the race by a neck.

4. Classic Warcraft – mightyforego – F. Oxon – 14/1

In the fourth slot, we will have a second daughter of War Chant going into the gate and also the first of our 14/1 longshots in Saturday’s race. The bay filly has won all but one of her four lifetime starts. The most recent start for the filly came in a listed stakes over seven and a half furlongs in Thailand. The filly was fourth out of the gate in the five-horse field. Midway through the race the filly was asked to make her move. She would cross the wire in front by a head while setting a speed figure of eighty-three. She would win her three prior starts, all at the allowance level. The only race the filly has lost was in her maiden debut.

5. Rebel Rhyder – beerkeg29 – C. Mecklenburg – 10/1

The first of two starts by Into Mischief, the bay filly is returning to graded company after taking a step down in class to an allowance race. The most recent start for the filly was in that allowance race, which took place over a mile on the dirt in California. The filly led the field from gate to wire in the race, winning by two and a quarter lengths with a speed figure of eighty-three. The sole graded start for the filly came in The Antarctic Debutante (G3) over seven furlongs. Setting just off the pace in second, the filly would fade in the latter stages of the race to finish fifth.

6. Needabankloan (TUR) – tfon20 – N. Bonus – 10/1

The only horse in the field for this Saturday to not have been bred in the United States, the chestnut filly was sired by Bodemeister and bred in Turkey. Making her seventh lifetime start this weekend, the two-year-old most recently raced in California during the Del Computer Debutante (G1) over seven furlongs. Settled just off the front runners in fourth out of the gate, the filly would lose ground in the stretch to cross the wire in sixth while setting a speed figure eighty-four. The most recent win for the filly was in April during the Arizona Shoot-Out Special (G3) at four and a half furlongs. She was held back off the front runner in second, taking over the lead at the midway point of the race, winning by half a length.

7. Genious Gold – lenny20 – K. Banner – 9/1

Midway through our field for Saturday, this bay filly has finished off the board only once in her career and will be making her graded stakes debut this weekend after winning two consecutive races. The most recent start for the filly was in a listed stakes race over seven furlongs in Colorado. The filly led the field from gate to wire in the race, winning by one and a quarter lengths with a speed figure of eighty-six. She also previously won her prior start, which was an allowance race over seven furlongs in Vermont.

8. Goal Line Stand – brightvalr – J. White – 9/1

The first of two fillies in the field by Not This Time, the brown filly is making her graded stakes debut this weekend after taking two attempts at listed stakes races. The most recent race for the filly was earlier this September during a listed stakes race over five and a half furlongs. The filly quickly overtook the lead after coming out of the gate in second. She went on to win the race by three-quarters of a length, setting a speed figure of eighty-four. She would finish second in her other listed stakes start, which came at five furlongs in Hong Kong in late June.

9. Mischief My Lady – ddkstables16 – R. Bokie – 6/1

The most recent start for the filly came in Illinois during The Chicago-DC Lassie (G3) over a mile. The filly settled into fourth out of the gate and was asked to make her move midway through the eight-furlong race. She would cross the wire in third setting a lifetime best speed figure of ninety. Prior to this the filly would win in a seven-furlong allowance race in Kentucky over a sloppy dirt track.

10. Smashing Bugle – photonic1 – J. Hernandez – 12/1

By Palace Malice, the bay filly is a listed stakes winner who has recently taken a step down in class, but will be making her graded stakes debut this weekend. The most recent start for the filly came in California during a mile long allowance race. Going straight to the lead at the break, the filly would be caught late in the stretch and would finish second, setting a speed figure of eighty-five. Her most recent listed stakes start was this past May at six furlongs in Minnesota where she would cross the wire in second. The sole win for the filly so far was in her maiden debut over five and a half furlongs.

11. Turn To Music – checkmate23 – R. Radzinski – 9/1

In the eleventh post, this chestnut filly has made four lifetime starts to date and will be making her first graded start this Saturday. The most recent start for the daughter of Maclean’s Music came here in New York during an allowance race over a mile. After being held off the pace in third at the start, she began to make her move midway through the race and went on to win the race by a length with a speed figure of ninety-two. The filly has made one listed stakes start, which was in start prior to this allowance race when she finished second in the six and a half furlong race in Maryland.

12. Bonebardier – ksparrow – R. Foster – 14/1

By hot new sire Flightline, the bay filly has made five career starts to date and will be making her second start against graded company. The most recent race for the two-year-old was in the Buckeye Debutante (G3) at six furlongs. It was a short seven horse field in which the filly was sent out of the gate towards the middle of the pack to be held in fourth off the pace early on. She would make her move down the stretch and would win by half a length with a lifetime best speed figure of eighty-two. The filly has never finished worse than second of any of her five career starts.

13. Not This Lady – desertdog18 – R. Taylor – 9/1

The second filly to be sired by Not This Time will be going into the thirteenth gate on Saturday. The bay filly will be making her third graded start. The filly was well off the pace at the start of the race, coming out of the gate in eleventh. She would make a move for the front late in the stretch but would only manage to move up into fifth while setting a speed figure of eighty-six.
