DUR SURVIVOR Season 1 – DUBAI Into the Unknown (Immunity Race 2)

OUTPLAN, OUTRUN, OUTRIDE! – The second Immunity Race

by Linton (Dingo333) on behalf of Down Under Racing

With the tribe reduced from the original 10 to 9 after the first Immunity Race, and Matty (Chips) barely surviving, everyone returned to camp. Winner of reward Mat (lindsypark) had 2 full days to savour his victory, and he took all of it before deciding that race 4 in the series would be a 100k Claimer for 4yo and older Open event over 6 furlongs or 1200 metres.

The 9 members of the tribe spent the week trying to decide on which of their horses would seal their fate in this weeks NW2L Allowance for 2 year olds. The producers early in the week introduced the group to Blue Huey the meteorologist who had advised the tribe that this week’s race had an 80% chance of rain. Now most of the tribe were short on 2yo Colts who had run and won, and the threat of a desert deluge just before racing on Saturday caused much discussion. The consensus was that a wet muddy quagmire of a track (when it rains in the Dubai Desert it RAINS!) would be nothing but a total crap shoot. There was much discussion about idols and whether they would or should be played, especially with the track expected to be knee deep in Desert mud.

THE BLINDSIDE:

By nature a blindside means it is totally unexpected, and when race day suddenly dawned without a cloud in the sky and the fiery Desert sun exacting its toll on both man and beast it was most definitely unexpected. This caused some  mad scrambling as the tribe members strategized pre race, with eventually Kim (Kimugle) and Andrew (crawf68) opting to play their idols and ensure they were here next week.

THE FIELD:

Three of the tribe decided they didn’t have a suitable youngster for the race, so a hurried trip to the breeding shed was required. Four others produced their horses who had won at their only previous start, but the catch here was, 2 of them had their wins in MSW Hot races, and the other in a cheap Maiden Claimer on Turf, and the last won a legit MSW, but was a filly now up against the boys. The last two were both having their second starts but coming off MSW losses. Just for added fun games and confusion this race also had four outsiders to contend with as well

OUTPLAN:

Idols were played for the first time, with Kim saying I don’t want to go home and have an unused idol sitting in “the pool room”. Andrew who had one of the second starters who was yet to log a win, and also a filly was of the same opinion and said rain schmain makes no difference, my horse couldn’t win if it started on Friday, and promptly sat his idol on the producer’s desk.

As last week, Matty (chips4u2c) was all bravado in our chat room, running around camp yelling “I’m all in NO IDOL FOR ME!” Just 5 hours before post time.

My Plan: As in the first race, I produced a horse I had claimed. This one was claimed way back on the 9th of February, and was having its first start and won a cheap maiden claim on the turf. Now he was having his first start for me and his first try on the dirt, the thought process was thick desert mud more like a turf track than a dirt. So much for those plans when we now had to race on a sun baked clay pan of a track. Surprised me in the end jumping 4th and running a nice even race to finish 3rd at 22/1

OUTRIDE OUTRACE:

Simon’s (Groupies) HOT MSW winner “MUNDY FEELING” jumped straight to the lead from a wide barrier draw and definitely gets the OUTRACED credit for the race, leading from Barrier to Wire for a nice win at the great odds of 26/1. The OUTRIDE might have to go the 4 outsiders who seemed intent on causing mayhem and both ends of the field. Two jumped in 2nd and 3rd and the other two snagged back to last and 2nd last at the jump. However, they weren’t really an issue in the end one of the leading two trailled home the winner into 2nd and the other weakening back to finish 5th.

THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN:

Now for the most important part of the race, who was eliminated, as said above two of the outsides dropped immediately back to the tail of the field, going back with them was the race 3/1 favourite Matt’s (Magoo) unraced “YAH DING DONG” and Kevin’s (Selurnivek) “A. P. COLLECTING”. Our two idol players Kim’s “DUR COLONEL GRAY” and Andrew’s “Y SO HARD” were 4th and 8th respectively. Brash Matty’s “IMPAZIBLE WARNING” was parked midfield in 6th. At the half when moves are made, it was clear that there were only 5 horses that were going to be in contention for last place. The two outsiders the two idol players and Matty. As in the first race Matty’s horse was seeing who can go backwards faster her or Andrew’s, but with idol in play Matty’s jock put away the whip this week and coasted in a half length last.

Matty now joins Elvin as the 2nd member of our Jury.
