URC – First Year Sires Stakes Races

This Saturday sees URC’s 4 Stake Races for unraced 2yo’s by First Year Sires being run at Kentucky.

The 2 Dirt races being over 6 furlongs (1200 metres) and the 2 Turf over 6.5 furlongs (1300 metres) – 1 each for Colts and 1 for Fillies per surface.

With entries being limited to 1 horse per race per Owner (Master Stable). I thought it may be of interest to take a look at what some of our members decided to breed for this series and how.

DIRT:

Colts: 12 Bred to Mares 2 Scratch Bred Fillies: 11 Bred to Mares 4 Scratch Bred

Charlatan and Independence Hall were used 3 times each, Lexitonian twice, with 21 other Sires used

TURF:

Colts: 14 Bred to Mares 3 Scratch Bred Fillies: 12 Bred to Mares 3 Scratch Bred

Palace Pier was used 4 times, Bivouac 3 times, twice each for Kaspersky, Japan, Raging Bull, St Mark’s Basilica and Victor Ludorum with 15 other Sires used

There were no crossover Sires chosen to breed for both Dirt and Turf

Computer Form Rating (using the Capper Color Bar) – assigning values of 1 thru 15 left to right – Dark Blue to Red

Dirt Colts: 4 at rating 4 (17/1 to 26/1), 7 at rating 5 (8/1 to 13/1) and 4 at rating 6 (5/1).

Dirt Fillies: 2 at rating 2 (86/1 to 96/1), 10 at rating 5 (8/1 to 16/1) and 3 at rating 6 (5/1 to 7/1).

Turf Colts: 2 at rating 4 (23/1 to 45/1), 13 at rating 5 (10/1 to 18/1) and 2 at rating 6 (6/1 to 7/1).

Turf Fillies: 3 at rating 4 (26/1 to 54/1), 8 at rating 5 (8/1 to 19/1) and 4 at rating 6 (9/2 to 7/1).

Conclusions:

Prior to the running of these races initial data doesn’t seem to give us much of a clue as to where we would place our hard earned cash if we were to have a bet, maybe we should check where the most popular sires chosen for this series stand on the sim wide breeding standings

Well that didn’t seem to clarify anything at all, with the best ranked Sire – Japan, having the 2nd worst win percentage and at the lower end of $ earned per runner. If we went on the stats alone you would have to select Kaspersky as the stand out sire with the best win percentage and $ earned per runner (2nd best ranking) with Raging Bull a close 2nd.

Decision Time:

With nothing better to go on, I would have to make the following selections

Dirt Colt: Big Bear Stomp (reason – that’s where the dart I threw landed)

Dirt Filly: Danzing Matanza (reason – it’s my horse and the other horse I bred to Sire Matanza’s Inlet ran 2nd 1st up at 71/1)

Turf Colt: Raging Approach (reason – shortest price of the 2 Raging Bull colts)

Turf Filly: Irish Prado (reason shortest price of the 2 Kaspersky fillies, also the other Kaspersky filly is mine and I thought it would be pushing my luck to select 2 of mine haha)

I have been looking forward to the running of these races for a few weeks as I usually bypass the First Year Sires because I have absolutely zero knowledge on the breeding side of this game or real life horses. Someone once told me way back (like 15 years ago way back) breed with Northern Dancer and Mr Prospector on either side of your lines (I think it was Barndog who was a breeding guru), and that is about the total of my breeding knowledge.

===== GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO ENTERED ======

PS: I must have been a bad boy in a past life because I got B F aTman (oops I mean B F aBman) riding 2 of my 4 entrants 🙂

LOL, thanks for the informative and entertaining write-up, picking unraced 2 year olds is almost impossible, betting them is the fastest way to the poorhouse!! 🙂
