Stakes – Sponsored – Purse : $100,000 – 4 Years and Up – Owner Restricted
8 Furlongs | ~1600 Meters | One Mile Fast Dirt

From Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, just west of Dallas, the Elite Racing Club puts on its February stakes event, the More Than Ready. Nine older males and an upset minded filly will battle it out in a single circuit of the mile oval here over what should be a lightning fast track, as the current clear, dry weather should continue into next week. The Lone Star management has shown us all the southern charm we could imagine, and we’re pretty sure we’ll be back next year.
.
We have five former stakes winners in the field, as well as the graded placed MOVIE PROJECTOR, from club managing director summerset’s rac3 barn, who rated the handicapper’s choice as a co-favorite on the morning line in a very fast field of middle distance athletes. Sharing that co-favoritism is harrylan’s MALIBU QUAKE, while newly crowned club champ jbcri09 sends out the 3rd choice, MOUGAL MONARCH. Co-founder amir1605 saddles LUNAR ALLEY, the 4th choice at 9/2 odds. The odds on the rest of the field are in the double digits, with dunnvilledown’s ONETHIRTYAM, larrcamp’s ALUDRA, dontbetonme’s BLOW UP THE MOON, and newfydown’s HALLOW EVE EVE at between 13 and 15 to one. Rounding out the field is the other larrcamp entry DSHUBBA at 22/1, and finally jb3commish takes a shot with the 43/1 OVERCONFIDENT BEE.
.
Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order, and see if maybe one or two of the long shots can upset the apple cart.
.

.
1
LUNAR ALLEY…….. SAF 5M amir1648 J Turner 9/2
.
Leading them out on to the track is this five year old chestnut horse, who exits a fast closing 2nd in the My Sheba listed stakes at 7 furlongs, sizzling a 114 SP# in a mid pack trip. Flower Alley fella, out of the sim mare Luna Maria (by Malibu Moon), won his prior start in an open allowance, also at 7 panels, smoking a 112 SP# while a bit closer to the early pace. One back of that he just missed when 2nd in the same distance and conditions over a sloppy oval, smoking a 112 SP# from well back in the pack. Runner from the amir1648 barn is in rare form right now, should handle the mile trip; solid contender.

2
OVERCONFIDENT BEE …….. KY 4F jb3official R Sanders 43/1
.
Jack Milton jogger, out of the sim mare Persecution (by Forest Danger), looks for a third straight win, and fifth of her last six, after taking a NW1x allowance at 6.5 furlongs, zipping a 95 SP# from just off the early leaders. Blushing bay filly took a $100,000 starter at 7 panels in the slop one before that, zinging a 98 SP# in a front running score. She settled for 2nd after getting the lead in a conditioned claimer at 6.5 furlongs in her previous outing, zapping a 98 SP# on a “good surface”. Looking for the big upset here for trainer jb3commish, but the handicapper is unimpressed with any of her exploits, holding her as the 43/1 rank outsider.
.
.
3
ONETHIRTYAM……… IRE 4M dunnvilledowns T Meeks 14/1
.
Light grey four year old colt has reeled off seven straight sprint wins, the latest in an open allowance at three quarters of a mile, blasting a 110 SP# from just off the early pace setters. Caravaggio chaser, out of the G1 winning, million dollar earning sim mare Vanguard (by Forty Niner) won in a stalking trip one back of that in a local bred allowance at 7 furlongs, busting a 106 SP#. He took an open allowance at 7 panels in his prior try, banging out a 104 SP# in a pace pressing performance. Dunvilledowns protege has never been beyond 7 furlongs, looks like he’ll be involved in the early pace scenario; one of the live long shots, making his four year old debut.
.
.
4
MOVIE PROJECTOR…….. JPN 5G rac3 M Sparkman 5/2
.
Managing director summerset sends out this stretch runner off a fast closing 2nd in an open allowance at this distance, wrangling a 113 SP# from the middle of the pack. Bay five year old gelding made little impact one back of that when 9th in the G3 It’s All Your Fault, also at a mile, working out a 109 SP#. He ran on for 3rd in his previous run in the Rare Slew listed stakes at 7.5 panels, whacking a 117 SP# in a very fast race. Co-favorite on the morning line has numerous big SP#’s that should take this event; may be getting long in the tooth but still a serious threat on best.
.
.
5
DSCHUBBA…….. KY 4M larrcamp18 V Waddle 22/1
.
The first half of the larrcamp entry is this brown four year old colt, who comes off a fast closing 2nd in a local bred allowance at 7.5 furlongs, crushing a 107 SP# from the back of the pack. Honor Code hombre, out of the sim mare Utahraptor (by Uncle Mo), was a dreadful 13th one before that in the Fabugalamix listed stakes at 7 panels on the green, catching a 92 SP# while never close. One back of that he was a nice 2nd on an off dirt track in an open allowance at 7 furlongs, crashing a 106 SP# in a five horse affair. May show some life late in the lane, could catch a minor award on best effort.
.
.
6
ALUDRA…….. KY 4M larrcamp32 G Merkins 15/1
.
The other half of the larrcamp entry is this Klimt killer out of the stakes placed sim mare Broken Mou (by Broken Vow), who was last of six all the way around the track in an open allowance at 8.25 furlongs on the turf, landing a 94 SP#. Bucking bay four year old colt closed with a rush in his prior try in a local bred allowance at 8.25 panels, lashing a 108 SP# from way back in the pack. One back of that he was 7th in the Credit Given listed stakes at a mile and an eighth, lucking into a 106 SP# while never a threat. Deep closer will need some racing luck, turf to dirt angle in play but tough task here.
.
.
7
MALIBU QUAKE…….. KY 6M harrylanlow17 S R Vaughan 5/2
.
Our other co-favorite is this bay six year old horse, who was a fair 4th around the course in the Peacenik listed stakes at 8.5 furlongs, smashing a 116 SP# against some tough foes. Scratch bred Malibu Moon mister (by Seeking The Gold) was a well beaten 12th one back of that in the G3 Save A Buck at a mile and a sixteenth, sticking a 104 SP# in another very fast race. He won his previous outing in the Bingo Bagel listed at 8.5 panels, scalding a 116 SP# in a quickly run affair. Runner from the harrylanlow17 stable has the fastest SP#’s of this group, will take beating on top try.
.
.
8
BLOW UP THE MOON…….. TX 4M aam2 M Ramsey 13/1
.
The ever dangerous dontbetonme racing group saddles this bruising bay four year old colt off a 6th place finish in the G3 The Jimmy Pascual at 8.5 furlongs, drawing a 103 SP# in a mid pack run. In his prior outing this Lunarpal leaper, out of the sim mare Explosive Nerf (by Speightstown), flew down the straight to get the money in the Insky Winsky Spida listed stakes at this distance, drilling a 112 SP# from the back of the pack. One before that he won a local bred allowance, also at a mile, dropping a 95 SP# in a four horse affair. Looks like he’ll be in the second flight looking to get the jump on the deep closers, could be in the mix in the stretch.
.
.
9
MOUGAL MONARCH…….. ENG 5M jbcri38 P Goodson 7/2
.
Farhh flash, based on the graded placed, stakes winning sim he-mare Maliluce (by Storm Cat) seeks his fourth straight score after taking a restricted allowance at this trip over this strip, notching a 110 SP# in a mid pack run. Bay five year old horse crushed the same type of field one before that in the slop, nailing a 121 SP# with his typical mid pack effort. His previous start was a win in an open allowance, again at this trip over this strip, nabbing a 111 SP#. Runner from reigning club champ jbcri38’s barn is unbeaten at this distance and seems to love the Texas racing surface; solid contender should make his presence felt coming for home; can do.
.
.
10
HALLOW EVE EVE…….. NY 5G quidivididowns S Bannon 15/1
.
Watching them all exit the paddock is this roan five year old gelding, who won a NW3x allowance at ten furlongs in his latest, flashing a 110 SP# from just off the early leaders. Mission Impazible mauler, out of the sim mare The Next Move (by Even The Score), was 6th in the club’s Bernardini at 9.5 panels last October, flipping a 106 SP# though not a threat. One before that he was a nice 3rd in an open allowance at 10.5 furongs, flinging a 104 SP#. Improving sort drops back to a mile, could work out a minor award from mid pack on top try for the newfydowns racing operation.
.

Good luck everybody, and may they all come home fast, safe and sound.

Should be a way to still scratch a horse for an instance like this.

Can we get larrcamp to choose one horse of the two and the horse he does not choose results would not count in our standings/points?
