I was taking a peek over the racing form and found this nice Listed Stakes running in Arkansas this weekend. The newly aged 3 year olds will be heading across a 9.5 furlong Fast Dirt track on Saturday afternoon in the brisk winter air in the Intergalactic Dirt Route. All eleven entries are 3 year old colts. Many in this field will be attempting to gain their first stakes win. But the field does consist of some very good looking horses including two prior G2 winners. The odds makers have made their selections for the morning line and the post positions have been drawn. So let’s take a preview of the field of horses that will be running in the Intergalactic Stakes here in Arkansas.

Post Position: 1

Horse/Odds: Closefromtheclouds 5/1
Sire: Cloud Computing
Owner: danmancan
Jockey: C Garber

This Bay Colt is out of G1 winning mare, Seattle In Summer. He has already earned his SP badge and looks to add to his credentials. He has seven career starts and has hit the boards in five of those trip to the track in the 2019 season. His last run he went 8.5 furlongs in Texas in a $43,800 NW2L Allowance. He stalked the front runners and made a big move after the third call coming for home. He put away the field with a nice run for the win by 1 ¾ lengths. He does have experience against Stakes company and did pick up a 2nd place finish back in September of last year in The Cutest Clingiest Cat Stakes in Kansas. Jockey, C Garber from Nebraska gets the call to ride up top with him again due to pairing up nicely together back in that race in Kansas. They will head to the gate together representing The Minnesota Testbarn Residency.

Post Position: 2

Horse/Odds: Mustang Brook 7/1
Sire: Nyquist
Owner: deyoto9
Jockey: S Joseph

This Bay Colt will see a new jockey for the first time in this race with S Joseph flying in from Argentina to take to the saddle. This horse has only four career starts and only missed the boards once and that was in his Maiden début. His last trip to the track he showed good form and that he had the legs to go a distance of 9 furlongs in New York in the G2, The Ransom Stakes. He seemed to run effortlessly and picked up a nice gate to wire win. He likes to run up front and that is where we should see him in this race when he breaks from the gate representing the Midas residency.

Post Position: 3

Horse/Odds: The Virgin Empire 17/1
Sire: Empire Maker
Owner: givenshared2
Jockey: L Goad

This Bay Colt out of G1 winning mare, The Trident has been improving in all his race. He will need to continue in the effort taking on this field. He has seven career starts and won four of those races under the guidance of his owner. He makes his first attempt to running in a Stakes race here in Arkansas with a local jockey in L Goad who will be up top. This horse last ran at 8.5 furlongs in Oregon from which he has run all his prior races. He ran in a $9,700 NW4L Allowance where he took control at the third call and handily won by 2 ¼ lengths. He will need to prove he can run outside of Oregon in this race and that he can step up from these lower level Allowance races. I think he has a shot here if he can prove he can continue to show more forward progress and face stronger fields than he has ran against in the past. They will head to the gates here in Arkansas representing the GR Simsters residency.

Post Position: 4

Horse/Odds: Indy Is Awesome 8/1
Sire: Scratch Bred: (AWESOME AGAIN x STREET CRY x A.P. INDY)
Owner: dingo333
Jockey: S Proudfoot

This Brown Colt has four career starts and has never finished worse than 2nd in any of those races. He continues to improve in distance and in his speed ratings. He will need to bring that forward in this race as he takes a step up in Class to race at the Stakes level for the first time. He will have a local jockey from here in Arkansas in S Proudfoot who will take to the irons and try to keep this horse on its winning ways. This horse last ran in New York on 12/02/2019 going 8.5 furlongs in a $48,700 NW2L Allowance. He grabbed the lead after the third call coming from over four lengths back to catch the wire for the win by a mere ¼ length. But that was good enough to get him to the winners circle and get his picture taken.

Post Position: 5

Horse/Odds: Var Reaching 6/1
Sire: Var
Owner: roxymoron
Jockey: G Wendorff

Jockey, G Wendorff from Oklahoma gets the call by this Brown Colt’s owner to take to the mount. This horse had a nice run in his last race losing only by a neck at the wire and had a nice 99 speed rating that day. The race was in Illinois on 12/01/2019 in the Kristopher S. Dirt Juvenile which was an 8.5 furlong Listed Stakes. This horse continues to make marked improvements with added distance. He could be a factor in this race if he continues to make these improvements when he heads to his post to represent the East-West Connection residency.

Post Position: 6

Horse/Odds: Flavor Of Mayhem 5/1
Sire: Uncle Mo
Owner: lenny18
Jockey: K Carson

This Bay Colt just broke his Maiden in his last trip to the track when he ran 8.5 furlongs in Kentucky on 12/06/2019 with a 95 speed rating. He will be making a jump in Class for this race, but he has caught the eye of the odds makers in their morning line making him one of the co-favorites in this race. But he will need to prove that he has what it takes to bring that speed rating forward and give a good performance at this level. He will have jockey, K Carson from Kansas in the saddle for this race. This horse is of good breeding and is out of HOF mare, Across The Sunrise. He will see if he can pick up a new badge and trophy when they head to the gates representing the GR Simsters residency.

Post Position: 7

Horse/Odds: King Of Theives 6/1
Sire: Flintshire
Owner: kingscourt13
Jockey: C Shoemaker

This Bay Colt will be making his first trip on the dirt surface here in Arkansas on Saturday. He looks like he can handle the distance if he can comfortably make that transition over to dirt. This horse has won at the Graded level twice in his short career of five starts, both coming on the turf. His last trip out was met with some difficulty when he ran in California on 11/01/2019 in the G1, Breeders’ Bowl Juvenile Turf. This was his only misstep thus far. He did win the G3, The Founders Stakes in New York and the G2, The Champagne Mile in Victoria. This horse has proven he can win at the Graded levels and thus I can’t count this guy out but the surface switch does bring with it a little concern. He will have jockey, C Shoemaker from Texas in the saddle for this trip when they head to their gate representing the Universal Racing Club residency.

Post Position: 8

Horse/Odds: Ryans Jay 14/1
Sire: Congrats
Owner: ballgame
Jockey: T Cohen

This Bay Colt broke his Maiden in his last trip to the track. This came on 11/25/2019 in British Columbia when he took control after the third call to catch the wire 1st by ¼ length. He ran 8.5 furlongs with a 87 speed rating that day. He will need to show improvement here as he jumps in Class to face this field of contenders. This horse will have much to prove in this race and jockey, T Cohen coming in from Oklahoma will take the ride with him and be bringing his bag of tricks to attempt to keep his horse in contention. They will be headed out at post time to represent the Universal Racing Club residency.

Post Position: 9

Horse/Odds: Will Wild Elusive 14/1
Owner: massatoga21
Jockey: D Hogin

A Light Grey Colt will take out of gate 9 come post time representing the Universal Racing Club residency. He has run many races in his career in Louisiana and will be bringing in with him jockey, D Hogin from Louisiana to ride up top for this race. His last race came on 11/18/2019 in Louisiana when he ran 8.5 furlongs in a $48,700 NW2L Allowance. He came in 3rd that day and was 3 ¾ lengths back at the wire after grabbing the lead at the third call of which he could not hold on to. This will be this horses first attempt at the Stakes level when he takes to the track here in Arkansas.

Post Position: 10

Horse/Odds: Dwarven Arrows 6/1
Sire: Arrogate
Owner: given10
Jockey: S Lowracer

The Given master stables find another horse to bring in for this race and it is a Light Grey Colt that was performing very well until his step up in Class in his last trip to the track. He ran on 12/07/2019 and met with much disappointment in that race when he failed to fire in the G3, The Sams’s Town Delta Jackpot in Louisiana. He lingered across the wire in 10th and was 11 lengths back with an 85 speed rating. However he has shown he can do much better and perhaps this step back down in Class is just what he needs. His owner contracts with jockey, S Lowracer who is a local jockey here in Arkansas to ride in the saddle. This colt gets a look from the odds makers for this race of which they too hope for better out of this horse on this trip. They will be headed to the gates representing the GR Simsters residency.

Post Position: 11

Horse/Odds: Gus N Bru 8/1
Sire: Scratch Bred: (ARROGATE x STORM CAT x ALYDAR)
Owner: varsity
Jockey: P Jolly

This Roan Colt drew the outside post for this race, but this does not bring me much concern due to his running style in some of his past races. He took a big jump in Class in his last trip to the track when he ran on 11/24/2019 in Kentucky in the G2, Club Stakes. He finished way back in 10th and was over 7 lengths off when he crossed the wire with an 84 speed rating. He steps down in Class for this race and will need to show marked improvement to stay in contention. He will have the services of jockey, P Jolly from Texas who will be coming in to take the ride with him. They will attempt to get some new bling in this race as they ride this track representing The Minnesota Testbarn Residency.

Good luck to all owners and horses in this race!

Skippy’s Watch List

Mustang Brook: Proved he could win at the Graded level his last time out.

Var Reaching: Looks ready to compete in this field after a good last outing.

King Of Theives: If he can handle the change in surface he might get there.

Tarton’s Long Shot

The Virgin Empire: He keeps improving and is coming off back to back wins. Has he improved enough to take on this field? I will give him that chance to prove himself when I head to the betting window and place him on some exotic tickets.

Great stuff, thanks!! You’re right to pick Virgin Empire as the bomb. He might not win because it’s a very tough field but he’s going to move forward bigtime at 9.5f
