Spare T holds on in Photo Finish at Fat Nation

Jockey Q. Simien on board Salto Weissbach wished the Fat Nation Stakes was one mile and five feet. On the other hand, winning colt Spare T(Ire)‘s daddy would have been proud. The two year old’s heart-pounding stakes win certainly was ‘Theatrical’ (Spare T’s sire).

Spare T spent much of the race stalking early leader Meadow Mambo(IRE) and made his push just before the top of the stretch, passing Meadow Mambo and dueling with 2nd favorite Haafhd Hollandia(GB). Just when it seemed to be a two horse race, up the track came the flying Salto Weissbach. Salto made up almost 7 lengths and edged past Haafhd Hollandia for the place money, just missing by a head at the wire.

Both the winner and the runner-up finished with an 89 Speed fig, Haafhd Hollandia with an 87. Meadow Mambo hung on for a well-beaten 4th, 7 lengths back.

SpareT(IRE) was the morning line favorite at 5/2.
