2011 Blazing Saddles Showdown
Its Blazing Saddles Showdown week, a week Blazing Saddles members have been waiting for all year. The Breeders Bowl of the Blazing Saddles residency has Breeders Bowl quality, with many G1 winners participating in this year’s event.
This year’s Showdown will feature horses from 12 different trainers; Skunkbarn, Psyduck, Redhill, Desperado, Meguire, Mtk, Otistaylor, Bigjet, Bbaffert, Galileo, Magoo and myself. These guys will be competing for maybe what the trainers of Blazing Saddles want the most, Blazing Saddles trainer champion.
There are many storylines in this year’s BS Showdown, but I would say the main one is Otistaylors’ 5yo Too Many Larry going for his 3rd straight Blazing Saddles Classic win. A multiple G1 winner, Too Many Larry comes in off a fast closing 3rd place finish in the Breeders Bowl Classic. But it won’t be easy, he will be facing what might be the toughest competition he has ever faced in the BS Classic, but he is the obvious class of the field. What might be the heaviest favorite of the day is Galileos’ Atia, the Breeders Bowl Filly & Mare Sprint champ. The 4yo daughter of Smart Strike has won 5 straight, also winning the G1 Nutcracker. Atia looks to stalk and pounce facing 7 others in the BS Showdown Filly & Mare Sprint at the same distance of her Breeders Bowl win.
Another high profile running is this year’s Showdown is Skunkbarns’ filly, Fear Government who will again tackle the boys in this year’s Turf Sprint. She won the BS Turf Sprint last year in impressive fashion. She comes in off a lackluster effort in the Breeders Bowl Turf Sprint. She will run against 2yo turf champion of the year in 2009, Preposterageous. Another tough Skunkbarn runner is Skunkjeureyev, who was only ½ a length off from a win in the Breeders Bowl Turf. Although he only has one graded win under his belt, he has earned more than $1.1 million, placing in multiple G1’s. In the BS Turf, Skunkjeureyev will face 8 rivals.
There are many other tough horses in this year’s Blazing Saddles Showdown, but I’m going to wait to talk about them in my race previews. Should be an awesome day for all the BSers, I know I’m looking forward to it!!
