Nine clash in Epic Battle
California– Come one, come all, for the magic nine muster in an Epic Battle. With a $75,000 purse, these mighty nine freshmen fillies clash in a Monster Mare Mile. Eight furlongs for main track amazement. Oh my! Let’s meet them………..
On the rail, burnin’s Nessy Alfay (7/1) felt humbled versus the stakes company boys LTO. The Hennessy daughter sparked a pretty good 80 SP# at the ALW level in her prior mile appearance. The pace presser attracts game jockey N. Bonus.
Next up we have zapspride’s experienced router Queenly Saint (7/1). By Kingmambo, the lassie also tested the boys LTO to disastrous results, finishing well-beaten in the Cryogenics(G3) over 8f. Previously, the filly went 2-for-2 versus the gals, laughing her way to victories over 9f and 8f with a combined winning margin of 5 1/2 lengths. Excellent jock R. Simcox guides ‘Saint from behind the pace.
Gettin’ It (7/1) didn’t care for the off track in her first outing, but then zoomed to a snappy mile MSW score in 1:37 3/5. Peter12’s Dynaformer royal bred totally romped from midpack. J Pimental (10%) pilots the starlet.
The Glitterman filly Black Glitter (7/1) breaks from post 4. Wiz10’s best gal precociously broke her maiden first time out and became a stakes winner just two starts later (a 5.5f score!). After a graded debacle and a turf experiment, Black Glitter got back on track in her route debut, winning over an off track 8f ALW with an 83 SP#. Stalker has the talent, but a poor jockey draw.
Capsized sends out his royal bred Lost Baggage (5/1). The Sadler’s Wells daughter broke her maiden in her first start over the main track, but tired somewhat when trying stakes company afterwards. She’s since bagged an ALW sprint in good time and will try to grab the pace again here Saturday. Veteran California jockey M Staples gets the call.
Fatattack’s racetime favorite Unbridled Mistress (3/1) presides as the exciting entrant. The Awesome Gain daughter was most impressive winning her MSW debut here at California last month. The filly gamely closed from off pace to nail a mile in 1:37 2/5. With top jockey F. Gossett aboard, the ‘Mistress aims to scale the next level and thus prove she’s one to watch.
In the seventh post, we have lurch’s Dixieland Deputy (5/1). The off-pace runner by Dixieland Band broke her maiden in her third attempt at 8f. Improving all the time, the gal markedly sizzled again in ALW company, matching the favorite’s 1:37 2/5 mile in her next start. One to watch on the upswing and great jock in the irons too.
By Gold Fever, Chica De NY (8/1) boasts the most experience of the bunch, making her 9th trip to the post. The har stable trainee took 4 starts to pick up her first win, but added a stakes score just two outings later. The filly has been a well beaten also-ran twice since. A. Lewis (15%) hopes to guide the closer through traffic.
Finally, Song Of Sahkee (9/1) draws the far outside. The Sahkee daughter split two turf tries before going 2 for 5 sprinting on the main track. She makes her route debut and no reason to suspect she won’t take to the two-turns. Lousy jockey aboard though for the closer. ‘Song needs her best performance to date for superimpos stable.
Snowchief’s Picks:
Should be a scramble for the early lead with lots of inside speed. Capsized and Fatattack’s fillies are the ones to watch. I’ll take the midpacker Gettin’ It over Unbridled Mistress with Zapspride’s filly to follow. Pacesetter Lost Baggage might hang on for show though or 4th place finish.
Win: Gettin’ It
Place: Unbridled Mistress
Show: Queenly Saint or Lost Baggage
Good luck to all.
