Even Field Of Four In Vermont

Even Field Of Four In Vermont

Vermont – The Out Of Sight Challenge brought me to Vermont on Thursday and the drive to the racetrack was along tree shaded roads that were covered in fallen leaves.  I was sorry that the fall colors were past their prime but we are pretty far north and fall is almost over.  Out Of Sight is a 7 YO stakes winning mare by Unbridled.  She was a winner of nine from 54 starts before she was retired and has had two foals to race – both winners.  The Out Of Sight Challenge will bring together four 2YO fillies who will be looking for fame and glory as they travel seven furlongs over the Vermont green turf course and a purse of $70,000.

I found a nice spot on the rail as the first of the four I wanted to see came on to the track.  Possessed (3/2) is a lovely bay filly with an exquisite head sporting a white star.  An old horseman’s adage says that fillies with stars are fast and this filly is well on her way to being part of the adage.  The daughter of Perfect Soul has won two of five starts, both early in her career.  She came from mid-pack to win at first asking and followed that up with another victory where she showed a lot of courage, fighting head to head until the stretch when the other filly backed out.  Trainer Devil01 entered her next in the Stigmata Stakes where she finished third and then her form went south in an off the board allowance finish and she managed to beat only two horses last time out in the Hero Lauren.  She looked fit and sound as she galloped by me with that daisy cutter action so desired in a turf horse.

Funky Dixieland (8/5) jogged by the wrong way with a lovely ground covering stride.  The bright red filly by Black Tie Affair is owned and trained by Burn2down and has won two of her last three including her last.  She has back to back speed figures of 78 and that is the best of this group.  She has been brought along carefully and this will be her first stakes attempt.  She looks big and powerful and very fit.

Fair Weather Faith (5/2) came by in a strong gallop pulling hard and asking to do more.  She is by Diesis and has been in the money in four of her five starts, winning two of them.  Owner/trainer Sdmf4 stopped on her after a poor performance in a Japan allowance and shipped her to the United tates for a little rest and relaxation.  She appreciated the break and came back strong to win the Pro Warning Bonanza which was run at seven furlongs on August 13th.  He tried her at a mile and she was a fast closing second last time out and has showed a steady climb in speed figures.  The dark bay filly looked awfully good on Thursday and if low percentage jockey N Stelle doesn’t get in her way, she could be the one to beat.

The bright copper chestnut filly, Keep It Private (4/1) is a daughter of Eavesdropper and came by me bucking and playing as she cantered around the track with the pony.  Her high kicks had us all gasping and I think she was playing to the crowd because by the time she reached the back stretch she had settled down and acting more like a lady.  Trainer 4stardave told me he had been putting a lot of long gallops in her because he was worried about the distance.  The only time she tried any distance she flopped badly and suffered the worst defeat of her career.  He hopes it was because he didn’t have her fit enough and hopes this time will work out better for her.  She has a nice form, finishing in the money in four of her six starts and has two wins including her last.
