Carby’s Sum Challenge Draws Six!
France– The $75,000 Carby’s Sum Challenge drew a field of six fillies and mares Saturday. The girls will be traveling six furlongs across the main dirt track. The weather should be mild and the track is expected to be fast. www.doubledeposit.com
The 9/5 favorite is Communionn. The Great One, J. Stivers, is aboard the daughter of Ferdinand. Stalking type should get a dream trip under the SIM’s best jockey. She didn’t get much of a pace to chase last out and would probably appreciate a little speed here. If someone gives her a target, she’ll be gunning for it late.
Ant’s Honor is 2/1. R. Truitt gets the call. The speedy Gulch filly has hit the board in 13 of 16 lifetime starts. She is just what the favorite ordered in a front-runner. The kicker, however, is that the field usually doesn’t catch her. Should be out in front until the very end here. Catch her if you can!
Knickers Off and D. Caufield are 9/2. Obscurely bred filly (Scan x Broto x Thunder Puddles) has been a decent breadwinner at the allowance level. She runs the same way as the favorite here and would need a miracle to pull of the upset while trying to match strides with her. Probably should try and move sooner than the fave and beat her to the punch.
The first of two at 6/1 is Grossly Misled. Nureyev mare hasn’t won in over nine months. Her recent form is somewhat puzzling. It would appear that she has been getting tired while on the front end, but there really isn’t an explanation as to why. Probably won’t fare well if her form doesn’t improve.
Also at 6/1 is Space Skates. R. Kraft is in the irons. The daughter of War Chant has had a brilliant start to her career. Seven starts have led to three wins and three seconds — her lone failure was a mysterious turf route that really didn’t make sense at this point in her career. Her dirt sprinting has been spectacular thus far and her numbers have been steadily rising. Look for her to collar the speedy “Ant” early and try and put her away.
Creeping Doom is 11/1. S. Dunlap is up. Stalking Gold Legend filly has probably the best chance to come from way back here. She will most likely run out of racing room in a 3/4 mile race, but I would like her chances a bit further. Still, Dunlap is one of France’s best. She isn’t without a shot if she runs her best to date.
