Clone Race With A Twist
Comedy Central completed another running of their series of clone races. In the past, these races were designed where each and every horse in the race was bred with the exact bloodline. They were all the same age and were all making their premiere racing debut against each other.
This past weekend, the clone race went off with a twist to it. Each bred horse had the same blood line with Favorite Danzig and Secretariat’s Ghost completing the dam sire/dam dam sire but each trainer was free to select their own sire. Some of the top name sires were selected by trainers while others used the lower end of the spectrum all to determine one question. That question, coming from Comedy Central was…Can we have a parade on the track after the race?
Oh well, you have to know the residents to appreciate them. Now on to the race…..
Going out for the early lead, in this mile long race, were Seacret Star, Aussie Pride and Favorite Zapper, with Seacret gaining the narrow advantage. Kamikaze Boltbus and Cloneliest Number ran together as a pair a stride off the leader with I Am Not A Clone and Indy Secret angling in from their outside posts. Speightsclown, Better Than Indy and Twist With me took to the back.
As the field moved to the half, Seacret Star, out of Sea the Stars, gained the upper hand by a length and a quarter as Aussie Pride took to the rail. Dropping back a bit was Favorite Zapper as the pairing of Kamikaze Bolbus and Cloneliest Number continued to run side-by-side. I Am Not A Clone and Indy Secret stayed together and drew a length away from Speightsclown. Twist With Me moved into the ninth spot as Better Than Indy started to show signs of trouble.
Heading around the turn and into the stretch Aussie Pride started to cut into Seacret Star’s lead and reduced it to less than a length. Indy Secret (out of A.P. Indy) along with I AM Not A Clone (from Forestry) were making headway and gaining on the leaders. Favorite Zapper started to foldup as did Cloneliest Number (Curlin bred mare). Speightsclown held his ground as others started tiring. Twist With Me had nothing to offer and Better Than Indy (Fan The Flame sire) was being eased.
The drive to the wire saw Seacret Start digging in but he could not hold of the Encosta De Lago bred Aussie Pride who was able to get the final edge and with by half a length. Indy Secret came up a length and a quarter short in his late run and took third. I Am Not A Clone had no problem cruising into the forth spot and had the best spot out of the females in the race. Speightsclown, sired by Speightstown took the fifth spot as others faded behind her. Favorite Zapper didn’t do sire Ghostzapper any justice fading back into 6th after a decent start. The Awesome Again mare, Twist With Me, was never a factor in the race taking the 7th spot. Clonelist Number looked like she might have something to say but any hopes faded just past the half pole. Kamikaze Boltbus, out of Grindstone, did a Kamikaze run to himself and finished ninth. Better Than Indy looked to be lame by the end of the race, being eased by his jockey just past the half.
The winner, Aussie Pride paid $9.20 to supporters as the second choice with the betting crowd. The exacta with 6-1 Seacret Star paid a nice $60.50 and the triple with Indy Secret, the favorite, paid a respectful $206.80.
My picks of Twist With Me, Favorite Zapper, and I Am Not A Clone all failed to hit the board. Congrats to the winning trainer Simaddict!
