K’S STAGFLATION DOMINATES THE ST LEGEND

Last Saturday six very well credentialed stayers assembled in Ireland for the time honoured Grade II Irish St Legend. In our race preview we suggested that supreme’s four year old K’s Stagflation would take some beating and he totally lived up to expectations. Let’s look at the top three.

1ST – K’S STAGFLATION(KY) – supreme – Evens – as expected this top line stayer led from the start and opened up a huge lead. In fact the lead grew and grew and was at a race high seven lengths when they past the post. He produced an amazing SP#103 and it would not surprise me if he has even more improvement in him. His turf long ranking as now rocketed to seven and I’m tipping it will go even higher in the future. Full credit must go to trainer supreme on a great training effort. Fourteen furlongs of pure class.

2ND – CONSECUTIVE(KY) – mrenforcer – 7/2 – Settled fourth in the run and left his run as late as he could to try and run down the tear away leader hoping he would tire, unfortunately he ran into one very classy colt here. He ran an SP#98 was eating up the ground late but could only get within seven lengths of the winner. Given the right field he can definitely win more stakes events and it appears anything up to two miles suits perfectly.

3RD – BLUEBERRY WELLS – karl – 7/2 – The old man of the field at seven years old settle towards the back of the pack and also attempted to let loose and run the leader down. Again he was another who was just outclassed in this particular race. He also produced an SP#98 and was beaten seven and three quarter lengths. He also looks like the longer events  suits him well and to be running Grade II placings at seven is testament to the techniques of trainer karl.

Of the “also rans” The Bodyguard (KY), who finished fourth settled last and was running home reasonably well, Big John Cannon(IRE) got caught up in the early speed battle, hung on to second for a long period but faded in the stretch whilst Access Granted(ENG) never really got hot and finished sixth with an SP#89.

All honours on the day have to go to the winner.
