DOMINANT DISPLAY IN PRIX DE LOOT

On a picture perfect day in Paris, the City of romance, the running of the Grade III Prix De Loot was run and won. As we predicted it was always going to be a tough staying test for these young, lightly raced 3yo’s but I don’t think many predicted they’d witness such a dominant display of long distance racing as we did by the winner. Let’s look at the top three.

1ST – CRACKLE(KY) – slipaway – This son of Curlin went straight to the front and was never headed. It was not only the fact that he won so well but the style and speed in which he did it.  As they entered the home stretch he had opened up an amazing lead of around ten lengths and when they went to the line he was still four and a quarter in front. Add to that another thirteen lengths to the third place getter and it shows how easily he won this race. He produced and SP#110 . Trainer slipaway said “I couldn’t be more impressed, he has shown us all what a quality stayer he is, I will be looking toward some really big races with this guy”. It was his fifth career win from eleven outings and one we will never forget. The win took his turf long rating to twenty seven and we can expect that to be even higher if he keeps this form up.

2nd – THE END BEGINS(KY) – lenny28 – Began and settled midfield and was the only horse who got within eye sight of the winner. He had worked his way to second by the stretch and was nine and three quarter lengths off the leader, he managed to pi back five lengths but it wasn’t enough. He was much better than any horse in the race bar the winner and will win his share of Graded races if he continues that form. He produced an SP# 107 which was a superb effort. Definitely has all the attributes of a class stayer and worth following.

3rd – CHASING HAMBURG(AUS) – astinator3 – She was the only mare in the race and managed a Graded placing albeit beaten a long way, some seventeen and three quarter lengths. She settled in last place and was one of the few making any ground on the winner in the straight. There’s no doubt she is a quality staying 3yo mare, she was just out classed today by a very good horse. She ran an SP#98 which is close to her best over any trip.

Of the beaten brigade no one really flattered with the fourth place getter SPUR’S DANCER(IRE) some twenty one lengths from the winner and really the only other runner making any ground late. All the other were fading late in the race and will probably look to re-assess their distances or class they run at next time out. All honours must go to the winner here who completely blew this field away.
