The Rockette features four 2yo colts and one filly going the sprint distance of 7 furlongs on turf. The heavy favorite, Bad Blake broke his maiden 2 starts back in a stakes race. Interestingly enough, none of the entrants are undefeated. Let’s get to the race!
PP #1 Night Breeze-Shore Breeze x Awesome Again x Secretariat, 8-1 with M LaRosa up (8.0%)
Stable: The Squirrel Empire (Comedy Central)
This Illinois bred son of Shore Breeze tackled Grade 1 types after winning a condition allowance last out. Last out in the G1 More Nay he broke well and sat right off the leaders. But when the time came to run he had nothing to offer falling back to finish 8th of 9 beaten almost 10 lengths. Two back he broke his maiden in a NW2L allowance at 6.5 on the lawn. He went gate to wire, holding off a challenger late to win by 1 length. He earned a 77 speed figure for his win. Might be involved early, but appears to be in over his head.
PP #2 Bad Blake-Kingmambo x A.P. Indy x Danzig, 6-5 with B Wu up (23.1%)
Stable: Billy2shoe Stables (Blazing Saddles)
This royally bred son of Kingmambo has been ambitiously placed after placing 3rd in his career debut. Last out he raced in the G2 Champagne Mile at you guessed it a mile. He broke towards the rear of the pack in 7th. He lost some ground going around the turn, but passed a few tired horses and made up a few lengths to get 5th beaten 8 lengths. He got an 82 speed. Two back, he broke his maiden in the Silver Cozzene at 7.5 furlongs. He broke 4th of five. He started making up ground at the 3/8 pole and won eased up at the wire by 1 ¾ lengths. He earned a 79 for that win. Should be towards the back in this one, and will be making up ground in the lane.
PP #3 Club De Mambo-Red Clubs x Kingmambo x Affirmed, 9-2 with J Ventura up (15.1%)
Stable: Flagdown Stables (Pastures Of Green)
The filly against the boys here. Last out, she tried stakes competition for the first time at 6 furlongs in the Lady Of The Best. She could never pass the winner, running 2nd the whole race, never farther back then 2 lengths. She was beaten only ¾ of a length. She earned a 77 speed figure. She has never finished worse than 4th in five career starts. Two back she went virtually gate to wire at 6 furlongs in a NW2L allowance with a 76 speed figure winning by ¼ of a length. This filly is bred to like the added distance, but I just can’t see it happening, wouldn’t endorse her at 9-2.
PP #4 Persicus-Duke Of Marmalade x Giant’s Causeway x Peintre Celebre, 5-2 with J Ledwith up (19.4%)
Stable: Rafa Stables (Northwest Racing Circuit)
This colt tried graded competition last out in the G1 More Nay at 6 furlongs, which was a cutback from 6.5. He broke near the rear of the nine horse field. He moved into 4th going around the turn. He closed well but could not get up in the final stages finishing 4th beaten 2 ¾. He earned an 80 speed figure. Two back in his 2nd career start he won the Green Mile II at 6.5 furlongs. He was last in the four horse field for the first half of the race. But he got it into gear going around the turn, and ran on nicely to win by 1 ¾ with a 76 speed. Will also be towards the back, and also will be coming with the favorite.
PP #5 Beatsanemptystall-Medicean x Blushing Groom x Pleasant Colony, 5-2 with R Perloff up (10.2%)
Stable: Sjmeola Racing (East-West Connection)
This scratch bred son of Medicean is a nose away from being undefeated. He has been heavily raced since debuting in June, racing every 4 weeks, including this one. Last out he raced in a NW2L allowance at 7 furlongs on a good turf course. He sat in last of the four horse field early. He moved into 2nd going around the turn, only a length away, he won going away by 3 ¼. He earned a 76 speed figure. Two back he broke in mid pack, but again, he won going away by 3 lengths with a 79 speed. He will be towards the rear, but another that will be coming.
