Gone For Gimlets Looks to go 4 for 4 in the G1 Firebird

The Firebird
Grade I
Six furlongs
Firm Turf
$500,000
All horses, 2 years old
The G1 Firebird features 6 2yo colts, 3 of which are undefeated. The favorite, Gone For Gimlets, looks to be the fastest of the bunch, but will he be pressured?

PP #1: Might Of Princess-Hussonet x A.P. Indy x Theatrical, 2-1 with L Montgomery up (7.7%)
Stable: Astins Place (EAAA Racing)
This son of Hussonet is 3 for 3, most recently winning the G3 Triple P at today’s distance of 6 furlongs. He sat in 2nd right off a longshot for the first 3 furlongs, and then took the lead going around the turn. He fought off a late challenge to win by ½ a length with an 83 speed figure. Two back in a big money allowance he ran the same kind of race, taking the lead going around the turn, but blew the field away winning by 2 ½ with an 81 speed. Looks to be in mid pack early, watch for a big move at the 3/8 pole.

PP #2 Sismico-Street Sense x War Eagle x Daylami, 6-1 with A Reed up (17.8%)
Stable: Alfalvi Stables (NA)
This Street Sense colt is a length away from being 4 for 4, with earnings already over $100,000, he has won 3 out of 4 races, with a 2nd in a stakes. Last out he ran in a NW3L Allowance at 6 furlongs. He sat in mid pack early, only a length down. He made a big move around the turn to get into 2nd, and held off some oncoming rivals to win by 1 length. He earned an 82 speed figure. Two back he went gate to wire winning a NW2L Allowance at 5.5 furlongs, drawing away in the lane to win by 1 ¾ with a 75 speed. Will be stalking early, looks to keep moving forward.

PP #3 Deptree-Deputy Storm x Danzig x Kingmambo, 4-1 with E C Doyle up (12.5%)
Stable: Mano Stables (Pastures Of Green)
A Maryland bred son of Deputy Storm comes into this one winning and allowance and a maiden. Last out he faced 6 rivals in a 6 furlong NW2L allowance, he sat in last for the first half of the race. He made up some ground to get within 3 lengths going around the turn. He then blew by his rivals to win by an impressive 3 ½ lengths. He earned a 76 speed. In his Maiden breaker, he was also far behind in the early stages. But move into striking position going around the turn and got up under the wire to win by ¾ of a length. Lots of potential here, deserves a big look.

PP #4 Besanks Choice-Redoute’s Choice x Empire Maker x Theatrical, 9-2 with M Russell up (10.8%)
Stable: Briant Breeding & Racing Empire (GR Simsters)
This is the first foal out of the stakes winning mare Besanko. He broke his maiden last out at 6 furlongs. For the first 3 furlongs he sat in mid pack but only a little more than a length off the lead. He moved into 2nd going around the turn, and kept on going to win by 1 /2 with a 72 speed figure. Two back in his career debut, he ran the same race, running in mid pack then making a move around the turn, but flattened out in that one to only get 3rd beaten 4 lengths. Should be in mid pack early, not for my liking at 9-2.

PP #5 Dublin Mob-My Own Business x Refuse To Bend x Chester House, 68-1 with M Fontain up (9.7%)
Stable: Lrisquez Stables (NA)
This Venezuelan bred (I’m assuming that’s what VEN stands for) debuted in a stakes race at 6.5 furlongs. After breaking well in 2nd, he began a steady retreat for the rest of the race. He fell back into 3rd at the half, and was 8 down at the 3rd call. He finished 3rd of 4 beaten 15 ¼ lengths. He earned a blazing fast 40 speed figure. Might show some pace for 2-3 furlongs, but will be a non-factor from there on.

PP#6 Gone For Gimlets-Tanino Gimlet x Gone West x Sadler’s Wells, 3-2 with Z Kentucky up (18.9%)
Stable: Skunkbarn Stables (Blazing Saddles)
The favorite of the six already has earnings over $250,000. This colt has never been out of 1st place in his 3 career starts. Last out he won the G3 Railway at 6 furlongs over the same turf course with the same jockey. Last out he blasted out of the gate to get an early length lead. He took a 2 ½ length lead at the 3/8 pole, he expanded that lead even more going around the turn, and held off some oncoming rivals to win by a little over a length with an 89 speed figure. Two back he again went to gate to wire winning the Blazing Saddles Juvenile Turf Showdown at 6 furlongs. He won by 1 ½ with an 88 speed. He will have the lead early, and I think will again go gate to wire.

Morning Line: 6-1-3-4
Gowans: 6-3-2-1

Good luck to all connections!!!
