A Betterer Race (excellent grammar)

Smallish field here in Argentina.  Buenas dias a todos mis amigos aqui y buena suerte.  Some very good classy runners here though and it should be a decent race to watch, even better if you have a bit of a punt and even betterer (no such word I know) if you back the winner.  Good luck, buena suerte and let’s see who we think may take our fancy today…

1 ALPINE TUNE(FR)

Record: 19-9-3-2
Owner: airtiger
Jockey: I Farlow
Odds: 7/2

This mare out of Green Tune (who by the way has not sired that many Graded winners) at all over the years is in very very fine form coming off 4 wins in a row with 3 of them at Stakes level. Speed is very good as well with her last run a 110 across the line.  Can’t ask for more than that. Well you can but then you would just be being a little greedy hey!  On her distance she looks the goods here.

2 INHERIT THE THRONE(KY)

Record: 20-5-6-3
Owner: brightvalr
Jockey: L Molinero
Odds: 3/1

The “throne” in Australia is another word for the toilet or the loo so this one is aptly named you would think? Depends on how much time she spends in there.  Also in good form and this distance suits her has been there in the end in most of her recent races but just hasn’t been able to get the win.  Consistent for the place finishes should be pushing here again.  A good run and she may get lucky and get the win.

3 SHAMAN QUEEN(KSA)

Record: 35-3-10-8
Owner: spain
Jockey: T Stepnoski
Odds: 5/1

Not at the speed of the previous two runners really is a solid performer but not full of class as such.  An honest runner she will certainly give it a go and needs to get some good speed here early to have a chance.  Would have a much better chance if the distance was longer.  I think she will be still winding up as she crosses the line.

4 PERFECT FORMATION(KY)

Record: 16-3-2-4
Owner: mtklaz09
Jockey: P Miller
Odds: 4/1

Has been running predominantly around the 7 furlong mark and each time has been finished fast and furious for the line wanting more distance in fact screaming for it.  Well here she has her chance with a touch more length to run and I think we will see her in the top 3 at worst and a win at best.  Form is there after finishing 2nd at Grade II level last run out.  One of the “outsiders” at 4/1 if you could call it that but in with a real big chance.

5 GOLDEN LIONESS(KY)

Record: 19-11-1-2
Owner: grrm
Jockey: E Seifert
Odds: 7/2

Knows the winning post and what it takes to win with 11 out of her 19 starts being wins.  Only the run race 2 runs back at Group level in which she failed miserably which is the only way to describe an 8th place finish some 9 lengths behind the winner.  Her form at Stakes level though is impeccable and consistent and she deservedly gets another chance today to break through into Group racing. Another with a real chance if she gets her run right.

6 TYPHOON TRACEY(AUS)

Record: 13-3-3-2
Owner: fitzy
Jockey: Ja Davis
Odds: 14/1

The long shot of the race and fair way at that due mainly to the fact of her best speed being 100 and that was back in April of this year.  A very good runner at Allowance level, solid even, a true horse who will do her best.  Unfortunately her best is probably not going to be good enough here unless someone shoots the other 6 runners today and even then I question whether she would come in first across the line.  I might be surprised but I seriously doubt it.  Certainly not a Group level horse at this point.

7 TIME TO PRETEND(KY)

Record: 18-7-1-3
Owner: sam812218
Jockey: S Joseph
Odds: 9/2

Ah back to some speed and that was a 109 in a Stakes race last time and a win as well by over 2 lengths.  So what can we deduce from that?  Well that she won the race and now gets to pretend to be a Group horse and runs in a Group race. Actually not so to be honest because she has won at this level before back in May of 2009 in a G3.  It has been a while since then but still with this smallish field may get there.  Maybe…
