Hands up anyone who knows the winner of this one!

It’s Ladies Day at Ascot and we have 6 frolicking fillies out to get themselves noticed in the Palms Outward Grade 3 Stakes.

CRUISER HOLLANDIA(IRE)  hollandia6 – steps into Group company following a promising run in stakes class last time out. She has been steadily improving but leveled out when finding one too good in that race. Superb breeding lines and almost certainly going to be aimed at the European Classics next year if she progresses. Could already be showing signs of needing further and will be looking to step up in trip before long.

HIGHFLY’S GOLDIE(IRE)  evefly – morning line favourite but she might find this drop back in trip less to her liking. But when your 2yo filly runs a 76 on her debut in a decent Maiden Special Weight, easing up, a Group race has to be the next step. Trainer evefly should not be disappointed if she doesn’t win this one – she’ll be among the contenders for the Classics races next season if she continues to improve.

KLASSIC PROSPECTOR  wrecks – a true sprinter, but she’ll probably get a mile or further as her career takes off. Perfect 4 from 4 and her Traba Memorial Stakes form has been franked when second placed Go Now went on to take another stakes race 3 weeks ago. She’ll be high on the list of early favourites for the 1000 guineas next year and I expect her to continue her impressive run of victories.

BUDA AT THE RODEO  fiat – trainer fiat is no stranger to handling high class horses, but must have been delighted when this filly won an Allowance race on debut. She has always been thereabouts in her other 4 races, but has failed to find the winner’s circle again despite posting impressive numbers. The switch back to 7 furlongs, coupled with a change of surface, might be just what she needs to get her career back on track.

URKO’S SMILE(IRE)  champs – another potential Classics filly. This one has had a more modest start to her career than some of the others, but rightfully earns her place in the race following back to back victories and improving each time. She could be sprinting for the final time as she will be looking to establish herself as a solid miler and the 1000 guineas could be on the agenda next season.

GERMANIC BLUEPRINT  redbirduk – disappointed 3 back over a mile and trainer redbirduk sensibly dropped her back to sprints with great effect. She lost her maiden tag and then followed up with an excellent victory in the inappropriately named Under Performer Memorial Stakes. This one is far from being an under performer and could become a force to be reckoned with at her (potentially) best distance of 7 furlongs.

Two year old fillies are possibly the most difficult horses to judge, but the trainers of each and every one of these young ladies have nurtured their charges and will no doubt bring them to maturity giving them the best chance of long and successful careers. Normally, I sit on the fence and say things like “too close to call” or “any of these could win”, but this week, I’ll stick my neck out and say that I expect Klassic Prospector to take this one (but anyone who knows my handicapping skills will probably tell you that gives the rest of the field at least an equal chance!). Whatever the outcome, I have a feeling that all six names will appear more than once in the Black Type Bugler archives.
