Wow, what a field we have here this weekend. The top three ranked horses are here along with nine others in the top 64. Three of these are having their own personal competition right now for the 2009 Turf Sprint Horse of the Year in the Sim Eclipse voting! That makes for some really great competition down here in the summer of New Zealand. This could be one of the top fields of the year and I can’t wait to see them so let’s take a look:

1 – IN MY BLOOD(IRE) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
SteveMunoz Stables12/1 SteveMunoz 15.7% P.Ruzek 4 – 0 – 1 – 0 – 0 % 109 $ 673,32012

( HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x NORTHERN DANCER out of NEXIS SONG) With only fourteen races and eight wins, this four year old charcoal colt is looking great. Add to that the fact that he has three Graded wins and two close misses where he hit the board on his last two. Trainer and Owner SteveMunoz takes this colts number 12 rating jumps into this four year old campaign. His colt likes to be on or near the lead and this inside post should make that easier. The jockey for this race is Ruzek and he’s still looking for his first win in 2110. That may not help but this colt could very well be in the mix at generous odds.

2 – ETHICS PARADOX(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Super Stables9/1GradeTwo16.3% F.Inzamam 33 – 4 – 11 – 4 – 12% 115 $ 1,156,0962

( GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x GULCH x SEATTLE SLEW out of STORM THE SEAS) One of three horses in the race up for a Sim Eclipse award as horse of the year, this beautifully bred five year old had two Grade 1 wins last summer and finished fourth in the Breeders Bowl. He backed down a bit in the season ending DelPenn but the Super Stables who have a set of three coupled entries in this race have high hopes for his guy. It would be huge to start out this year with another G1 win and it should help that they have Inzamam in the leather as he has started off the year with a solid beginning. This horse is about as deep a closer as you can get and the owners are hoping for a slower pace with a blistering finish down the stretch.

3 – ITS NOT FOR GIRLS(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Beefcake Stables11/1BouefCake9.1% B.Jungnitsch 6 – 1 – 0 – 1 – 17% 111 $ 1,314,57334

(GRAND SLAM x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x AWESOME AGAIN) Another beautifully bred five year old that loves the front end. He has over a million in earnings and a top 35 ranking for trainer BouefCake and has been on the hot side in his past couple of Gradeds with a win and a place. Neither of those were G1s and he is still looking for that elusive first but has only run in seven grass races where he has been shown to excel. They have little used jockey Jungnitsch in the irons but he has one win this year. There may be a little bumping around trying to get to the front here but this horse has an advantage there with an inside post.

4 – SCIENTIFIC PROOF(IRE) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
DixieDotCo Racing20/1Brightvlr20.2% L.Bell 5 – 1 – 0 – 0 – 20% 108 $ 1,882,11827

( GALILEO (IRE) x SEEKING THE GOLD x DANZIG out of SEEKING SECURITY) There are plenty of bluebloods in this race and this five year old is no exception. He is nearing $2million in earnings and has one of the best owners in the game in the Dixie Dot crew. That bunch sure knows how to saddle ‘em up and it shows here. He actually hasn’t had a win since last March but has plenty of seconds and thirds in Graded races since then and is looking here for a bit of luck to pull off another win. They have Bell holding the reins and he has a win this year in only five mounts. This horse likes to come from the back half and there could be a lot of jostling down the stretch. Like I said, don’t give this horse a break or he may be in the lead.

5 – SATRUS(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Rafa Stables28/1Bagur15.3% M.Goff 12 – 0 – 0 – 1 – 0% 114 $ 919,39235

( WAR CHANT x FORTY NINER x SADLER’S WELLS out of SATRUSTEGUI) This six year old chestnut guy has three Stakes wins in the past six months but you have to go clear back to October of 2008 since he won a Graded race. While still competitive, it sure looks like his best racing may be behind him and he may have a tough time with this top field. Trainer Bagur is looking for one more big race and you just never know. It would help if they had a better rider than Goff who is still looking for his first 2010 win in 12 races.

6 – TSKAN KEE HO(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Donnybeisbol’s Genetic Misfit Consortium14/1Mattress16.9% N.Green 9 – 4 – 0 – 2 – 44% 110 $ 256,99057

( GONE WEST x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x DANZIG out of A GIANT DANZIG) A lightly raced five year old with only thirteen treks around the track but he has eight wins in those runs and has been really hot lately. He had 108 and 110 SPFs to win his last two including the G3 Zeppelin Cap for his first Graded win. Infamous owner DonnyBeisbol has brought this horse along slowly and it seems to have paid off. They have one of the hottest jockeys at the track in Green and he will try to keep this guy just on the leaders shoulders and bring him down the stretch with something left to gather the win. I’m sure there are some others that have a different plan for this guy but he could compete here at very generous odds.

7 – HIGHSIDE(IRE) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
LilBitFarms Stables6/1FirFight11.8% O.Rann 25 – 4 – 3 – 1 – 16% 117 $ 1,161,3375

( HIGH CHAPARRAL (IRE) x IRISH RIVER(FR) x KINGMAMBO) Last year’s Breeders Bowl winner and another Horse of the Year candidate, this five year old chestnut really hit his stride last year for the LilBitFarms Stables. They seemingly have a never ending stream of great horses and this is certainly another in that group. He likes to run on the lead or just off and there seems to be plenty of early speed in this one. Jockey Rann is a good one and he will know how to pace this horse. He is bringing the number five ranking into this race and could very well leave with a little better ranking.

8 – CLARITY THRU SMOKE(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Lawdro Racing Stables8/1Lawdro19.3% T.Mooney 19 – 0 – 3 – 1 – 0% 114 $ 1,435,17019

( THEATRICAL(IRE) x GRAND SLAM x DANZIG out of ITS ALLINTHE STARS) A five year old that was bred for the grass from the beginning, this horse seems to love the late spring and summer months and that could be one of the reasons that trainer and owner Lawdro brought him her for New Zealand’s summer season. Hopefully this horse looks at the weather and not the calendar. They have Mooney in the leather and he is just looking for a win as he is “O” for 2010. This horse is kind of streaky and the Lawdro team would love to see him start a new streak right here.

9 – FOOLPROOF SCHEME(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Desperado Stables12/1Desperado319.0% P.Rosportz 18 – 1 – 2 – 1 – 6% 111 $ 282,55089

( ELUSIVE QUALITY x DIXIELAND BAND x FORTY NINER out of DIXIELAND DELITE) As a three year old last year, this colt took a couple of swings at the older horses in Graded races and just missed by a nose last fall in the Central Park G2. He also came in came in 8th in the DelPenn but was only five lengths back and charging at the finish. Trainer and owner Desperado has done a nice job with this one and has Rosportz in the leather to try and guide him through the field from the rear to get up front at the end. It is a tall order in this one but this colt definitely has talent.

10 – SISSON’S SUPERSTAR(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Binzaman Stables8/1Levers13.4% T.Childress 7 – 0 – 2 – 1 – 0% 115 $ 1,469,3471

( DISTORTED HUMOR x STORM CAT x SEATTLE SLEW) The number one ranked horse and candidate for Horse of the Year was about as hot as you can be with three Graded wins in four starts last fall. He fell off a bit his last couple races though and trainer Levers has to worry if he is ready to bounce back here. It doesn’t’ help that they have jockey Childress who needs a bounce back of his own with no wins this campaign. This horse has a ton of talent and if anyone can have a big bounce back he can but you have to wonder if he needs a big of layoff before he gets back to his normal winning ways.

11 – APPROPRIATELY(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Pedro’s Racing Empire7/1PJLStables19.0% GD Mate 30 – 6 – 3 – 6 – 20% 116 $ 2,714,6723

( PULPIT x STORM CAT x FORTY NINER out of CAT O’ NINE TAILS II) You can bet that trainer PJL Stables was hoping for rain this weekend as this five year old chestnut horse has never been defeated on an off track. He still knows how to pick ‘em up and put ‘em down though on a firm track as well with an amazing fourteen wins in only thirty races. After a commendable fifth in last years Breeders Bowl, this guy had a bit of a falloff in his last race last year. He’s had a little layoff and hopefully is ready to get his stalking style back on the mark. He should be helped by jockey GD Mate who has been red hot with six wins in this young season. This group could be a player in this race.

12 – EIGHTSIXSEVENFIVE(JPN) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
Super Stables13/1Super1018.8% N.Jacke 4 – 0 – 0 – 3 – 0% 113 $ 521,48190

( STRAVINSKY x SEATTLE SLEW x MR. PROSPECTORout of JENNIFER’S SEAS) Another of the Super Stables entries, this six year old has had six Stakes wins but is still looking for that elusive first Graded win. His top speed of 113 was last January so maybe he really likes this month. The Supers generally really know what they are doing but this guy looks to be a step below the field here. It won’t help that jockey Jacke is winless this year.

13 – NEW SENSATIONS(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGS RANK
Super Stables14/1Wistful17.1% N.Chamberlin 7 – 0 – 1 – 0 – 0% 116 $ 349,33064

( A.P. INDY x GONE WEST x NORTHERN DANCER out of WEST OF THE DANCE) This five year old A.P.Indy offspring won his first Graded two back in the You Know What Stuart G3. He only threw a 106 SPF there and that won’t get it done here. This is the third of the coupled entry from the Super Stables and they are hoping that this guy is a late bloomer which sometimes happens on the grass. Once again, they haven’t worked hard on their jockey as Chamberlin is winless in 2010. The best news is that this horse is a stalker and may catch some of the early speed here as they tire in the stretch.

14 – MAXIMUS PRIME(KY) ODDS STABLE WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGS RANK
KS00003 Stables7/1KS000039.6% P.Chamberlin 22 – 2 – 4 – 5 – 9% 111 $ 846,65013

( EMPIRE MAKER x WOODMAN x RAISE A NATIVE) This nicely bred five year old chestnut horse has hit the board in four straight Graded races and just missed winning his first G1 last time out with a nice 111 SPF which was his all time best. He looks like he could really be coming into his own for trainer and owner KS00003. He has capable jockey Chamberlin holding the reins and his late closing style should work great from this outside post. There are other horses here in the running for last years Horse of the Year but this guy could surprise them all and leave with a leg up on this years trophy.

Morning Line = 7-11-14-8-10-2
Benelux Tips = 14-6-1-8
Paz Picks = 14-7-6-1

There is literally no end to the horses that could win this race. You have lots of horses that have done it in the past that may or may not be starting that downword spiral. You have some four year olds that are just getting geared up and some hot horses that would like to steal one here. On my card I have IN MY BLOOD in the fourth spot although he has the talent to win this one. They all can’t possibly win. You can make some money if TSKAN KEE HO hits on your tri-box ticket at 14/1 odds. I like that to happen. HIGHSIDE is the one Horse of the Year candidate that I think is ready to start off this season in the money. He is hugely talented and will give this field a real run. The hottest horse in this field coming in is MAXIMUS PRIME and he may “Transform” into one of the top horses in this class in this one with a win.

Good luck to all runners!
