G1, The Monster Mash

We are headed to Spain where on the card this Sunday is the running of the G1, The Monster Mash. I have previewed this race several time over the years and it always seems to be a shorter field of horses that are usually pretty tough competitors. I think that is what we will see in this year’s race as well. We have seven horses that will make the start across the fast dirt track this Sunday going a grueling 14 furlongs. The race is restricted to those horses that are 3 years old or older. The morning line odds and post positions have been released so let’s take a preview of the seven horses that will make the start in the G1, The Monster Mash in Spain this Sunday.

Heading out first will be this 6 year old Chestnut Horse (MUNNINGS x SEPOY x AWESOME AGAIN ) that two starts back would get another graded win in the G2, Nakatomi Stayer. He would then make his most recent start in Hong Kong going 16 furlongs in the G2, The Big Show. He had another good trip as he closed late to hit the wire in second just missing by a quarter stride with a 107 speed rating. He is dropping back down to 14 furlongs for the start on Sunday that should be in his wheelhouse when he heads out of the paddock to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Next, we have this 4 year old Bay Colt (SEA THE STARS x TAVISTOCK (NZ) x DEEP IMPACT ) that has been making starts on both the turf and dirt surfaces. In his most recent start in Nebraska, he would take to the yielding turf going 12 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Dynafor Boom Turf Endurance. He found a spot in second but would start fading back by the third call. He finished the race in fourth almost eleven lengths back with a 101 speed rating. He has yet to find the boards in a stakes start and will be heading back to the dirt to see if he can find one here in Spain representing the East-West Connection residency.

Here we have a 3 year old Bay Colt (INTO MISCHIEF x CATHOLIC BOY x POUVOIR ABSOLU (GB) ) that would break his maiden two starts back going 8 furlongs in Kentucky. He would then make his most recent start in Kentucky going 8.5 furlongs in a NW2n Allowance race on a wet track. He found a spot in second out of the gate and that is where he would cross the wire with a 94 speed rating. He will be going off as the longest choice in the morning line and has never raced past 9 furlongs in his career. He looks to be in deep water here when he makes the start representing the East-West Connection residency.

Next, we will see this 4 year old Chestnut Colt (GUN RUNNER x GHOSTZAPPER x DYNAFORMER ) that is a prior G2 winner from last season as a 3 year old. He had several off the board starts after that but would prove he still had the ability to contend at the graded level in his most recent start in Florida. He would travel 16 furlongs in the G3, The Jacksonville Jog. He was not jogging in this race when he grabbed the lead by the third call and then opened up down the stretch to get the win by six lengths with a 109 speed rating. He needs another good performance like that again this weekend here in Spain when he heads out representing the Orphan Racing residency.

This is a 5 year old Brown Gelding (MEDAGLIA D’ORO x UNBRIDLED x NIJINSKY 2ND ) that has taken his time to blossom into a graded winner. Two starts back he would win the G3, The Dying Breath by over 19 lengths. He would then make is most recent start in Surrey going 14 furlongs in the G3, The Europe Stayer. Once again, he would explode like a cannon down the stretch to pick up the win by eight and a quarter lengths with a 113 speed rating. He has two G3 wins in a row winning by a combined twenty-seven and a half lengths and both races were at 14 furlongs of which he will run again this Sunday when he heads out of the paddock to the cheers of an excited crowd.

6CHRIS PAUL PASSKY4Mwhoami1E Bernstein16256%$142,2689.259/1

Next, we will see this 4 year old Brown Colt (YAUPON x QUALITY ROAD x VICTORY GALLOP (CAN) ) that has made all of his prior starts this season in Allowance races. Last time on the track in Kentucky he would go 12 furlongs in a NW3L Allowance race. He would grab the early lead out of the gate and be up by six at the third call. Down the stretch he would be caught by a couple of horses and slide back to third when he crossed the wire with a 104 speed rating. He is jumping up in class and distance for this start and has never faced graded company before. He will need to bring his best of efforts when he heads over to his gate representing the East-West Connection residency.

7STAR WALKIN’KY5Gbeerkeg30R Engel22541%$2,329,75764.004/1

Breaking from the final gate in this race will be this 5 year old Chestnut Gelding (CURLIN x DEPUTY MINISTER x DANZIG ) that has all of his starts last season and so far, this season at the G1 level. This G1 winner from last season would pick up a second place finish two starts back in the G1, Hail to the King Stakes. He would then make his most recent start in Arkansas going 14 furlongs in the G1, The Razorback Route. He had a really rough trip in this race that ended when he crossed the wire in twelfth over twenty three lengths back with a 96 speed rating. He is going to need a big rebounding effort this Sunday when he breaks from his gate representing the Midas residency.

Good luck to all owners and horses!
