Beat Pyeman Contest-Round 2
The Beat Pyeman Contest began this past weekend and if you missed out in entering it this may be because you haven’t been going to the bulletin boards of our wonderful sim racing game. To get there after signing on, select Forums then Message Board. Several Boards will appear (one even includes a help board for new players…don’t be afraid to ask questions here, you will get helpful answers). Anyway, under the “DerbyFever.com – The Game!” a new contest has just started. You can tell it is new, because it says this in the title “New Pyeman contest!”
The contest format is what I would call a Survivor Series. Simply put, if your horse hits the board in the current week, you move on to the next week. You finish off the board, you’re out of the contest.
This game started this past weekend and will continue for no one knows how long. First of all, it is too late to enter. So please don’t make any entries until a new contest starts (if the powers to be deem that another one will be presented). The way this contest works is that a race is selected and each person can guess one horse that will finish on the board (top 3 positions). Pyeman (a well educated player) also gets to pick a horse. If Pyeman’s horse runs off the board, those who pick a winner continue on to the next week and share a pot of 2000 credits each week. You are eliminated from the contest when your selected horse fails to hit the board. If Pyeman hits the board, no credits are awarded, but those who also hit the board will move on to the next week. All others are eliminated.
This continues each week until one winner remains who will then receive 2000 credits. So, it could take weeks before we have a sole winner, but then again, it could end this weekend if 3 longshots come in and only one person nails it.
As I’ve already said, it is too late to enter. I’ve been eliminated in week one of the contest myself. The first race was run in
The three horses that hit the board were #14 The Canadian Dream, #12 CK Larriat and #8 Curb Appeal. The two favorites in the race finished 1st and 2nd. Curb Appeal was the longshot at 31-1 and took third, so you can back a longshot and continue on.
By my count, there were 46 entrants into the contest with 22 picking either #14 or #12. Nobody selected #8. The individuals moving on to the next round are:
david37373, revelation, crandy, platero, cvbear, docoz, cocoabeach, brit9, cmd, squirrel, aussie, npark28002, hijacked, smokeglack, mlotjb, aussietj, kirby55, tvracing, otistaylor, papracing, beisbol, swale007
Each of these winners won 91 credits as Pyeman’s choice was out of the money. And what about my selection??? I’d rather not talk about it.
THIS WEEK
Now we move into this weeks race (week 2 of contest). The selected race is being run in
1. Golden Chain 14-1 Took drop in distance in last and switched back to dirt, won in speed of 95. Repeat possibility.
2. Sheriff Langston 19-1 Been having tough time getting third win. Trying since January, seems doubtful.
3. The King’s Men 7-1 Won 2 in row after being claimed in June. Also, races have been in 90’s speedwise since claim. May finally have act together under new trainer.
4. Golden Bridge 19-1 Best races have been at 7f. Speed numbers will need a boost to get the job done.
5. Prospective 5-1 Claimed in July and has rallied for new connection with win and two places. The places were over this track at 7f with speeds of 95 & 101 and Cahill in saddle who gets call again. Dangerous.
6. Ojai Five Five 28-1 Lightly run with 3 starts and 2 wins. Wins have been against small fields and horse needs to show ability.
7. Mr. Funny 17-1 Horse takes slight drop in distance. Put in best speed of 97 last time out, but having great difficulty hitting board. Been off for two months, looks unlikely but speed in last race tough to ignore.
8. Imzada 17-1 Likes to run on lead but burns out through stretch. Adds a little distance that doesn’t look helpful to chances.
9. Gallop 16-1 Gallop won his sole 2 races on off track. Comes off hard late closing forth in speed of 95 on dry surface. Adds a flank which will give him added time to make it to top. Could be a surprise.
10. R. J. Crosby 6-1 On board 9 of 15 starts. Last two races in speeds of 99. Adds a little distance which he can handle. Good chance to find spot on the board.
11. Shakey Ground 5-1 Very consistant with 14 of 17 on the board. Speeds have been mostly in 90’s over past 5 months or so. Hard to ignore.
12. Chief of Montel 9-1 Chief has been running mile + distances for new trainer since July. Should benefit with drop back to sprint where he is 6 for 9 on the board.
13. Suffering Servant 7-1 Switches over to dirt where he’s raced once, finishing 4th in the slop. Suffering has appeared in graded stakes on grass, with top speed of 105. Race on slop was ok speed of 82, which was comparable to turf at that time in his career. May find new home on dirt.
14. Sweaty Gooch 10-1 Just started hitting 90-speed level recently. Will need to power up the numbers to beat this field.
Little speed in the race, so we’ll chalk up the advantage to Prospective (#5). This race is a bid race, and his trainer happens to be the bidder of the race. Jockey Cahill has done well with Prospective, distance suits, and horse likes track.
Second selection to Shaky Ground (#11). This colt is consistent in hitting the board and Jockey Wendorff hits board more than 50% of races.
Going for longshot Gallop (#9) for third spot. He’s doing extremely well with his ne connections and that may carry through to this race.
As a saver, I’ll throw in R. J. Crosby (#10) who has been very consistent in hitting the board. His speed numbers are ready to break the 100-threshold. This could be the race.
Good luck to all those trying to move on in the contest!!!
