The NOT the EPSTEIN FILES COMPETITON

This coming weekend sees the start of a little yearlong competition I have put together for the Orphans Residency.

You will either laugh or cringe at the name of the competition – I didn’t choose it…Chips did. He’s been saying that it’s taken so long to get the rules together (it hasn’t) that it’s been like releasing the Epstein Files. I actually called it the Lindsypark Unloved, Underated and Misunderstood Sire Contest but Chips wasnt having a bar of that, so it has now become the NOT the Epstein Filles Competition.

We all have those sires that we love or hate or just want to see do well, so I created this competition with 6 of my favourite or least favourite sires to see if we can get a decent horse or two out of them.

The six sires I chose, and reasons why I chose them are:

KERMADEC – This guy was artificially pumped up by Magoo and has become a running joke amongst a few of us orphans. Can someone turn him into something good? He has a couple of good horses in the sim, but he really is a myth.

STREET BOSS – You all know my love hate relationship with this guy. I’ve had too many shares come my way from him via cards and streams recently and he’s been hopeless…could be my breeding skills though. Hopefully someone will get a good one out of him. Frank says he’s good. I think Frankie doesn’t know (Scotty definitely doesn’t know)

MAHLER – A horse I saw run live in the 2007 Melbourne Cup where he ran third. I loved his breeding and have used him a fair bit in the past with good success, having the only G1 progeny from him in the game – Former Miss World. In fact I currently have 4 of the top 7 on his breeding page and they are all Group or Stakes placed. With a good backend he can produce some really nice horses

SPIRIT OF BOOM – Once called a glorified allowance runner by Desertdog, the Boom is one of my all time favourite sprinters – I’ve used him lots in the game and currently have the only G1 winner out of him – Boomalicious. I know he’s better than DD thinks, so its time to prove it.

AWESOME ROCK – Another hugely underrated sire in this game. He is yet to have a G1 winner in the game but has been very successful for me, with Sleazy Brindisi sitting at the top of the list of his best horses. Sleazy won at Stakes level and placed at Group level. I’m out to change that here and break the G1 duck.

GLOBAL POWER – The last of the 6 sires is Global Power. Another player told me to stop wasting my time using him. He can’t win a G1. I’m out to prove that player wrong. His breeding is good and he has quite a few Stakes winners. This is his moment.

The competition is for 3yos and is going to run from this weekend, March 7th, starting with 6 password protected races, one for each sire. Players can then race their horses a maximum of 8 times (not in Locals) between now and October 7th before a finals series takes place. The horses that qualify for the finals will be the top 4 from each sire (24 horses) and they will run on October 31st in a dirt of turf race that will be put on by me. Players can choose which surface they wish to run on, however the 6 slowest horses across the 2 races will be eliminated. Round 2 of finals will follow the same format as Round 1 on November 28th, and 6 more slow horses will be cut. That will leave us with the 12 fastest horses to go head-to-head on December 26th to crown the champion sire.

During the year, players can enter any type of race they like, however we want to unearth good horses, so claim races and smaller fields will earn less points. Also, if you enter a claimer and lose your horse, you can replace it, so it sets you at a huge disadvantage. We have rules in place to prevent other players claiming contestants horses to sabotage their opponents, however if you want to run the risk of claimers, that’s entirely up to you.

Scoring is as follows

Maiden Claim, Claim and Starter Races will earn 5,3,1 plus the score from the reverse order of the field eg: in a 14-horse field, 1st will get 5pts +14pts and last will get 1pt.

MSW, Allowance, Stakes and Graded will receive 10,6,3 and the same reverse field points.

As you can see, this is set up to encourage racing in big fields, and better-quality races

Fields have closed for the first races and we have 10 entries in each race there are some really tight odds, with current back to back rez champion CoolK having a number of the favourites across the first 6 races.

I will keep the Sim updated across the year as to how the comp is going and if we can prove Street Boss is a dud!

Good luck to all runners
