FRC – New Years Event 2026 Review
The Florida Racing Club race review for our New Years Event of 2026. Prizes for the two event are paid to the highest finishing horse from a residency supporting stable. Most of our races this year are open to all, but prizes are for rez supporting stable horses.
First up…
FRC New Years Stakes 2026 is our first stakes of the year for 3yo at 9f. This is the race that can help our FL sire horses to build entry points for the bigger spring races of the year. We had eight horses in the race this year that were fairly evenly rated going into the race (except for the favorite).
DROADSTER was our long shot winner (by a smidge) and top rez finisher from the FRC supporting schnittke0 stable! This horse started out the year last March with a win in a maiden race. After racking up a couple of wins in local allowances, it entered the My First Gunnevera Stakes and set the pace (but fell off to 4th place). Unfortunately, the horse set the pace and fell off again in the following allowance in good dirt, but came back strong for a wire to wire win in this race. This horse has a bright future as a pace setter. Currently ranked 161st. Congrats on the 300cr prize as top rez finisher!
MR. BRUSH was the favorite that held 2nd place through all the posts from the FRC supporting photonic5 stable. The horse has been on a tear as a 2yo winning his first 5 races (starting with two local allowances and continuing to win with local stakes races. After finishing the year with a disappointing 5th in the G2 Club Stakes, he was entered into the FRC New Years Stakes with high hopes. Has stalked most of the time in his career (with one notable wire to wire win), but was not able push to the front in this race. Currently ranked 61st.
CONTINUED SPACE started with a win in a local maiden race last March (from FRC supporting stable nabokov1). After a tough time in the FRC Tocobaga Juvenile, this horse gained its 2nd win in an local allowance in August. Finishing 2nd against MR. BRUSH in the My First Gunnevera, it looked like things were looking up. Then came the Scrub Jay Futurity, the horse just didn’t have it that day. While a bit inconsistent, this horse has ability and might have a better year as a 3yo. Currently ranked 137th.
and up next…
FRC New Years Elder Stakes 2026 is our sponsored stakes race for older horses. We normally focus on 2yo or 3yo stakes races due to the fact that they aren’t generally available from the CPU schedule. We had a really good turnout this year with 16 horses entered. The top 5 finishers had speed numbers 104 and above.
BLUE ROADSTER is the winning horse from the Orphan Racing supporting stable myt4go2. The last time this horse won a stakes race (if i am reading the schedule correctly) was the Florida Racing Club – Tequesta Stakes back in 2024. At five years old, this horse had its best 112 speed number and beat out three local legend horses in the process. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this horse! Currently ranked 1421st. Good luck!
SWERVIN’ GIRVIN is our 2nd place finisher from the Only Stayers supporting stable pattribbett0. This horse equaled its 111 speed number from the last stakes race it won at 10f back in June of last year (Local Championship Stakes). Still running strong at 6yo! Currently ranked 350th.
PER CURIAM is our 3rd place finisher from the Universal Racing Club supporting stable fredtje. This horse is coming off a win in its last race – URC Breeders Championships – Classic! Currently ranked 514th.
SHADES OF SLEW finishing 5th was our top rez finisher for the Florida Racing Club. Owned by the writer of this article, this horse’s unimpressive sire was paired with an exceptional SEATTLE SLEW damsire. While he has not been able to win a stakes race, he has had a good career that may be wrapping up soon.
Be on the look out for the Florida Racing Club Double Crown races starting in May! After Triple Crown Season wraps up, we will evaluate finances and will likely buy races for a FL Breeder Cup and next year’s races.
Thanks to all the people that entered this races this past weekend! If you like local stakes races like these… please consider supporting with a stable so we can bring more of these type of races to the schedule! Thanks to our current members – your support has made these races possible!
