The Definitive Tops All Others This Week
The Definitive Tops All Others This Week
Auction 3868: Sales rose this week by about five million dollars bringing the average up and the Computer stable buys down, which is always a good thing. Twelve horses sold for more than a million dollars and several trainers dominated both the buying and selling of these 12 horses. Trainer Seedly sold three of these top horses as did Y2j. On the buyer’s side were trainers Magoo spending over two million on two and Stoners writing checks for around five million to take home three. Fewer horses were offered this week which meant there were fewer to choose from. This sent the average up as well as the total sales.
There were 26 senior citizens 8 YO’s and older offered for sale. Seven of them brought more than a dollar and the top seller among them was hip number 84117 Point Well Taken who sold for $17,111.00 to owner/trainer Slewdown. The 9 YO big brown stallion by Point Given has won nine of his 73 starts but hasn’t shown much over the last year and will probably be retired soon.
One of the better buys this week may be Vampire’s Magic #71865. A 3 YO chestnut colt by Primo Valentino, he finished third in his first and only start beating just one horse for a lowly $5,000 claim. While that doesn’t sound so awe-inspiring, that race was on the dirt and this colt’s pedigree screams for turf. Cajun may find his auction purchase worth every bit of the dollar spent to buy him.

The Millionaires:
Even though there were 12 high selling horses, as per usual, I will only cover the top five and of those five only those that are not obvious stable transfers. With that said, here are your top five. Leading the parade this week was #165505, The Definitive. The 3YO chestnut colt has only started six times and has been in the money three of those including one win. He started off with a bang as a 2YO, placing or winning his first three but has seemed to hit a wall in his last three. Seedly sold this son of Cacique out of a Seattle Slew mare to Seveii, who hopes that he can work some magic and get this promising colt back on the right track.
Flash Hero #153752, another handsome chestnut colt, is also slightly raced and was consigned by Bigbro. He has won two of his 11 starts, has been six times in the money and was stakes placed as a late 2YO. His first time out as a 3YO he was asked to face older horses in a Grade III going 11 furlongs. It was too much to ask of a young fellow and he didn’t fare well. He returned to the wars with one more start before being put up for sale. He caught an off track and didn’t fare well there either. Seedly paid $3,313,002.000 to take this horse home and will probably try to shore up this talented colt’s confidence. By Military, he is the first foal out of Hero’s Luck, a stakes winning daughter of Partner’s Hero.
Wicked green Eyes #153752 was consigned by Muchalucha and it was Slades2 that signed the ticket for $190,001.00 after some spirited bidding. The 4 YO dark bay filly has yet to win a race but other than her first start when she got herself in to traffic trouble, she hasn’t run a really bad race. A daughter of Smart Strike out of an own daughter of Northern Dancer she has competed at distances ranging from six furlongs to almost a mile and a half.
Seedly also consigned Starphase hip number 175090. The 3 YO pretty bay filly trimmed in white was taken by Legends2 for $1,856,382. She has been in the money two of her three starts although she has yet to find the winner’s circle. She has increasing speed figures and a drop back in distance might find this daughter of Perfect Soul with a mark in the win column next time out. Starphase is out of the stake’s winning mare Liason Regina by Kingmambo. Laison Regina has had five foals with four of them being winners and one of which is stakes placed.
Y2j sold #9853 Queen of Scotland to Wolflodge for $1,542,142. The big blaze face catches your eye on this well-conformed 3YO red filly by More Than Ready. She is the first foal out of the one time winning mare Preute Leute, and Queenie herself, is also still looking for that first score. She ran a decent mile her first time out and then hit an off track, which she didn’t particularly care for. She has not started as a three year old.
The Auction Seen: I guess the groundhog must have seen his shadow because after last week’s short interlude of sunny skies, I arrived to find
When I finally arrived at the sale barn it looked like there were more people buying and with a fewer number of horses being offered it made for some lively bidding. After getting my Pepsi, I wandered down to the ring with Winnette. We hung over the rail for awhile visiting with Maybe, Fanatical and Trixey before I had I got cold and had to go back up to my table by the fire. Winnette stayed on with Misery for company.
Bobmarley was sitting at a large table with Parrothead listening to Jerrylee off to my right and I saw Shelmo trying to sell Markie on the idea of reviving the old Florida Flops Tipsheet. Jockeyjenn was at the table on my left and sure enough, Sugarbowl was right beside her but was being ignored for the most part. Bossyross was making a lot of noise discussing things with Teamster who looked unconcerned as he had Sniper in his corner. Couchy stopped by for a short visit with Barleduc and Padge could be heard asking Tihsho for some super advice.
Jona brought Threebars and Pinstripe over to my table. I immediately had to engage Pinstripe into an explanation of what seems to be a clothing fad for men. Have you seen those ghastly looking suits with the wide pinstripes that seem to be everywhere? I can’t believe that people can be duped into buying things that look like that. One is so busy looking at the jacket stripes that one doesn’t see anything else. Of course that maybe the whole idea, but I still don’t like them. That’s just my opinion so, people don’t get all excited, as my opinion doesn’t matter much in the grand scale of things.
Good Luck with all your auction purchases and, oh my, it is starting to snow….
