Sim Magic – When to Breed?
SIM Magic – When to breed?
Rating the Sires in Tiers:
First of all let me say, this article, like all of my SIM Magic articles should not be seen as ultimate wisdom or the complete truth, as everyone reading the rules and instrcutions of the sim will see, there are lots of things not explained in our little sim game. Because of that, many things are guessed on by watching and experiencing certain events in the sim. The biggest mistery of all is breeding, not only is it always a big question mark, when you send a Sire to a Mare, or make a Scratch bred, what skills the new horse will have, no even further, each week it’s a guess, of which sire will open when, and for how long he will be available.
Most important, when wanting to breed a horse, you’ll have to decide, if you want to use credits or BPs. After you’ve decided that, the question is, how much do you want to spend,
Usually when spending credits, to get a good horse, you’ll either have to spent 1000 credits, when breeding an existing mare, 2000 when breeding a retired mare and 2500, when breeding a scratch bred. When going for a BP horse, you’ll likely want to wait till the sire has opened on the ticker, so you’ll likely spent a max of 500 BP using an existing mare, around 875 BP using a retired mare and a max of 1250 BP going for a scratch bred.
As you can see thats a lot of BP, so most of us will only seldom go at spending those big BP, but instead wait a little into the week for the price of the sire to drop. For some sires this can work well, while others will only last for a couple of minutes, once they open.
The biggest run of the week is, when the breeding generally starts, this time is only announced within an hour of the exact time, so it can be a 55 minute waiting period, or as shortly as 2 minutes, because of that, this event got the simwide name of clickfest, and as pazzjazz has written a great top 10 article about it just last week, I don’t want to go into details how to perform best at it, but what I want to give you is a list of sires, rated in tiers,
First of all, this list does not reflect 100% wisdom, I could rate a sire Tier 1, and some week it could still be left 30 minutes after breeding opened.
A sire rated tier 4 could still not make it to the opening some weeks.
First let me explain you my tiers:
Tier 1: The sire will usually be gone within the first 10 minutes of being opened to breed, and if you go for a BP bred, he’s not likely to last long after opening.
Tier 2: Most of the weeks gone after 30 minutes of breeding opening, you better watch the ticker to open, if you want to breed it.
Tier 3: Goes for credits before ticker opens, likely gone within a few hours after it opened on the ticker.
Tier 4: Can last some weeks for credits till the ticker opens, can sit around till Thursday for BP use.
Tier 5: Will usually make it to ticker open on credits, and watch for it to still be available on Friday for BP breeding.
This tiers are just subjective, some will majorly disagree, and they will change during the season, as when a year begins, sires will likely go earlier than late in the year. 2yos generally go quicker than 3yos, for some Tier 1 and 2 sires you can still get a 3yo sometimes on Wednesday or Thurday, but usually never a 2yo.
I only reflect horses that are still available to breed 2yos or 3yos, and only reflect sires I have in kind of my shortlist, so if a horse is completly missing, I have not had it on my shortlist, as I usually will not use it for breeding, so this list by no means reflects comepleteness.(perhaps I forgot even one of the big sires)
The Freshman Sires you’ll find at the end of the list, the rest is alphabetical,
In general, Freshman Sires atm go very quick, and to really put them into tiers you should wait till the end of the year, so i only included about 10 of them.
