Let’s see if we can get a little magic in the “Whodini” Stakes. It looks like it could happen and this could possibly be a big breakout race for one of these young ladies. There are lots of questions but that is very normal for young three year olds this early in the season. You never know when one of these may be in the voting for three year old horse of the year at the end, so let’s take a look:

( MEDAGLIA D’ORO x CAPOTE x DR. FAGER) With only two races under her belt this pretty light grey filly is a little tough to read. She won her Maiden then finished well back in the Super Gold Handicap GI with only a 53 SPF. Trainer Cheats4Red must have a plan here but you have to wonder if this girl would’t be better off stepping down in class for a race or two. She seems to like running just off of the pace and the inside won’t hurt her there. Jockey Kirkpatrick is looking for his first win of the season in only three races but has finished on the board twice. She will need for things to fall the right way to contend.

( JEREMY x WAY WEST(FR) x HOIST THE FLAGout of PAWNSTAR) Like DOCTOR GIGGLES, She competed in the recent SUPER GOLD HANDICAP GI and finished eighth. Before that she had finished on the board in all of her fast-track races although only one was a Stakes race. She seems to like a little more distance although she’s never attempted a mile or more. Trainer Fitzy has procured the services of jockey Robinson who is one for three so far this year. This girl likes the lead and the inside post should help her there. She needs a really good run to finish near the top here.

(ELVSTROEM (AUS) x GONE WEST x NODOUBLE out of SERIOUSLY DOUBLE) This ELVESTROM bred filly has won three of five and looked really good last time out in a race where trainer Sipe moved her back to a shorter distance and she won the MAMA AFFIRMATIVE Stakes. She had a solid 85+ SPF in that race and finished first from dead last in a short field. If she can improve upon that race she will definitely be in the mix. Jockey Adams is in the leather and won on his only mount so far this year. He has another good ride and would like to keep that perfect record going.

( BLUEGRASS CAT x SADLER’S WELLS x MR. PROSPECTOR) An interesting name and an interesting filly as well here for trainer Dowelly3 who always seems to come up with them. After moving to the grass after her first four races, she has won three of four including two Stakes wins and a second and had her best SPF at this distance. The impeccably bred chestnut filly looks ready to take off and has Doyle holding the reins and he is good with these young horses. She is going to need to bump her SPF a bit but may be ready for a break out race here with her front running style.

( HEART’S CRY x SKIP AWAY x DIXIELAND BAND) Trainer Graywolf32 moved this nice looking cream colored filly back to the sprints after a disappointing effort at a mile in the GII SILVER SPOON JUVY race. She looked good last time out at 6.5 F with a quick 85 SPF although she was caught at the wire in the first race she tried to lead the entire way. Jockey Jetter is looking for his first win in a limited schedule and may not be a huge help here. Still a few things to figure out with this girl for GrayWolf, but she could break out at any time.

( ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) x MR. GREELEY x RISEN STAR) This lightly raced, nicely bred filly has won three of four including the TERGIVERSATION Bonanza Stakes last time out but she is getting no credit from the morning line because she has yet to break an 80 SPF. Perhaps trainer Sender2 didn’t want to push her or maybe she didn’t need to run any harder but she looks to have some talent and this could be the place to show it. She has Russell in the irons and he has been struggling a bit so far this year but is a solid rider. There is a decent amount of early speed in this race which she likes as well and that nay not help her here. Should be an interesting filly to watch.

( DUTCH ART x GLOBALIZE x POLISH NUMBERS out of FUNKANEER) This big filly has three wins and three second in six outings but ran her best race last time out on an off track. That was her only Stakes win and trainer Ceclaim10 has to wonder if she is going to want to run in the muck to do her best racing. She continues to improve and this will be a big test for her. Jewell is up on this one and holding the reins looking for his first win of the season. She likes to stalk the leaders and that may be to her advantage in this race with lots of early speed in front. She could surprise here.

( ZABEEL(NZ) x FLYING SPUR(AUS) x STORM CATout of FLYING DANCAT) One of our co-favorites on the morning line, this New Zealand bred filly has five wins and four Stakes wins in her six turf starts. Her last two were particularly impressive with nice SPFs as well. Trainer BMR001 is hoping for something special with this girl and this could be a big one for her. It is her first Graded race on grass and that first race as a three year old is always a bit scary. He has the tracks best jockey guiding her around the track and that bodes well for this team and trouble for the rest. One other possible worry is the large group of front runners in the race which seems to be the favorite tact of this filly. She should be the strongest among that group though.

( MARCUS ANDRONICUS x SEATTLE SLEW x FORTY NINER out of CROOKED BUDA) This speedy filly is tough to read as she has only four races under her belt and last time out was her first at this distance on the grass. What a race though as ran a 90 SPF and won even though she seemed to ease up at the end of the stretch. Trainer Juju from the Topicount Stables must be really looking forward to this race to see if she can duplicate that magic 90+ figure. He has Doyle in the leather and he is looking for his first win of the season and hopefully he can be at this best with this package of dynamite under him. She is a stalker who can take advantage of the speed in the race. Could be a player.

( LAWMAN x RAINBOW QUEST x TOUGH KNIGHT out of NEED BINOCULARS) Another tough read as this filly has run seven races but five of them were on off tracks and one was a Graded win. Her last time out was a nice Stakes win on a fast track but it was at a mile. So that leaves us with only one fast track turf race at this distance and it was a clunker back in her second race. I look into my crystal ball but even it is confused with this one. Trainer Meguire knows how to saddle ‘em up and I will sure be watching especially with top jock Reed guiding the filly but I have no idea how to handicap her in this race.

This has a chance to be a really electrifying race and it may end up with lots of jostling for the win at the finish. I like DIVORCE SONG to finish fourth although she may finish much better. She has the best SPF in the group at this distance but I want to see her duplicate before I can recommend her. OLD LADY’S CAT is showing some consistency but needs to show more speed to compete. I think that she has it and I think she has enough to finish in the top three. WASTED BREEDING looks like she may be ready to break out in a big way and this could be that stage. That leaves the win for SPURBEEL who looks to be just a notch above the others in this field and should be able to get it done.
