Few Horse Foreclosures This Week

Few Horse Foreclosures This Week

Auction 3819 – After last week’s practically ‘no auction’, this week people were back, consigning almost 200 horses more than last week.  It’s the New Year and time to re-evaluate all the horses in one’s possession.  Most people are probably doing spring cleaning and I expect the auction to do a brisk business over the next few months.  Anyone that is strapped for cash can breed about any kind of a 2 YO over the next month or two and it will sell well beyond it’s value as long as it is unraced.  So breed those 2 YO’s and send them right to the sale barn.  You will be well rewarded.  Only four horses sold for over a million dollars this week with two of them basically changing stalls.  There were 56 senior citizens 8 YO’s and up and seventeen of them sold for more than a dollar with sprinters being in demand.  This should guarantee TOMOTM series some good racing.  The Tempest #58826 was the top bid earner and brought $180,001.00 from Im3xwiser.  He has won 13 of 80 starts and is by Forest Wildcat out of the Archers Bay mare Sadie Storm.  Unionhall consigned this six furlong specialist.  Here are this week’s auction stats:

The Millionaires:

The top selling horse this week was a newly turned 3YO brown filly by First Samurai, # 132422 Pinifarina consigned by Bamba.  She is the first foal out of Hoopstwentyone, a 0/14 mare by Seeking The Gold.  Pinifarma showed promise right out of the gate winning her very first start and was promptly entered into The Light Locking Stakes where she finished third out of four.  She rebounded to finish a good second last time out and Tulloch thought enough of her to sign the ticket at $3,300,000.

Echelon #122292 didn’t have any reserve next to his name and it took Bikeboy some work before he finally out stayed everyone and brought the hammer down at $1,996,025.  The 5YO dark bay horse is by Woodman out of the Sunday Silence mare, Sunday Silence.  She is the dam of three foals to race and all are winners.  Echelon himself has only won one race this past year but is a stakes winner and graded placed.  Deadman consigned the good looking stallion.

Neither, Deadman or Bikeboy wanted to pay the IRS any money in taxes so Deadman promptly outbid every one else on Last Throes # 167174 consigned by Bikeboy.   Last Throes is an aptly named horse for Deadman to own and he spent $1,800,000 to make sure he ended up in one of his stable’s stalls.  By Monsun and out of a Glide mare, this 4 YO old has made two, far from awesome, starts on the dirt and I expect will be immediately switched to the turf in order to improve his performance.

Hip #160078 Heavymetalthunder was consigned by Jo and after spirited bidding, Yahoo brought the hammer down at $1,500,001.  The 3 YO bay colt has a maiden win under his belt and although he took a long break from June to September for a small fracture of the splint bone, he seems to be rounding back into form finishing third last time out with a 20 point speed figure jump.  He is by Touch Gold and out of the two-time winner Catbird Thunder.  She has had four foals to race and all were winners including one stakes winner.

The Auction Seen:

I know that it is winter but winter seems to be hitting the Louisville area harder than usual this year.  I am a Weather Channel fanatic and it seems like every Saturday morning before I head out to Kentucky, the weather map seem to be covered with freezing rain or snow in the area.  How silly of me to leave Arizona for that!  But leave I did and when I arrived I thought I would freeze to death before I even left the airport.  I was outside waiting for a taxi when Thefamily pulled up with their friend Bentley and offered me a ride.  We even had room for Bigbetta but no one else and off we went, soon to arrive at the auction barn in good spirits.

Last week had been fun with Billgulch and his band providing some of the holiday spirit along with 12pack and a few others.  This week they had had a party for New Years and the sale came up only a few hours after Bugeyes had finally shut down the karaoke machine. It took Yearoft just about that long to organize everyone and get the mess cleared up, but many people continued parting right through Saturday’s sale.  Chevypoker was trying to get a spot by the ringside rail but Pinky and Watermark were making their presences known and along with Jibaro and Shillachi were pointing out that there was no more room.

I stopped at the refreshment bar which was very rowdy and saw Masgalas, Irishman and Beng all telling stories and enjoying them selves surrounded by empty bottles.  Merita walked with me to my table and Upside and Edenprarie both stopped by and wished us Happy New Year.  Coldday was in his element at the table to my right and had the whole Hoops family as well as Lowland visiting there.  Pedroza came by and said he and his brother had an interest in a new 2YO but I forgot the name of it already.  Todd – can you keep me informed?  Tooldtorun looked to old to party and was ensconced in front of the fire talking over old times with Laraza and Elkchase.  At the table to our right was Redmatt (maybe thinking he was Kirby) and 200dates and next to them was a great group from the Queensland Residency.  So even though the weather outside was frightful it was cozy and warm inside and there were friends to greet both old and new.  The sale went off without a hitch and by the time it was over most everyone was off to the races, hopefully all with a good feeling of better times and faster horses in the coming year.

Good Luck with all your auction purchases and Happy New Year!
