The Pusher Bonanza

It’s the colts turn to show their spring credentials at Newmarket this week having hosted the fillies for the past few weeks. We saw a classy filly win last week in Sangria, and I think we’ll see a couple of pretty smart ones here too. Let’s take a look at the line up.

1- THEBARABARA RIVER 7-2; He is a colt by Barathea and his record stands at 3 win from 7, he is a winner of a stakes race at his second start, and he is to be riden by one of the top jockeys. Unfortunately this colt has been found out in his recent Graded runs, and it necessitated a step back to ALW company for him to find his way back into the winners stall. Ran we ll his only start at this trip, but I doubt he is up to winning this.

2- NORTH’S LOCK 3-1; Nice colt by North Light. Trained by the astute Hollandia stables this fellow gets the benefit of leading jockey A.Craig here and he looks the most likely to lead this field. Has appreciated the step up in journey his past 2 starts, those runs coming on the back of a G3 placing back in August. Has the ability to be in the finish here.

3- AZ A ROYALTY 5-2; This bloke is the most experienced runner in the field having graced the starter on 8 occasions for only the one unplaced run. He is G3 placed at this distance, and his only failure came in G1 race 3 starts ago. An inexperienced jockey is the only negative I can find for this very talented colt.

4- VORDROZDA 9-5; Divinely bred son of Awesome Again who has won 2 and placed 3 of his 5 career starts. He has relished the switch to turf in his past 3, registering 2 wins and a stakes placed 3rd, and the ability he has shown thus far leads me to believe that this is a quality horse. He’ll get back in the field early, but the small field should assist him in being able to find clear running. The one to beat.

5- TEOFIRATS 5-1; Classically bred son of Teofileo that is the joint ‘veteran’ of this field having also had 8 starts. Slow to break his maiden, he quickly found competitive form in ALW grade winning over this trip 2 runs ago, before leading them up when a fading 4th in a stakes race last start. He’ll find this too tough, but a return to ALW grade will see him resume his winning ways.

Very good race. I’m going to tip VORDROZDA to beat NORTH’S LOCK, but if Craig is able to get an easy time of it in front, then the result can easily be reversed. AZ A ROYALTY should fill the trifecta spot.
