“We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when…”
1) Tattari 3f 8 1-2-1 $10,287
Deerhound x Kahjasi x Thatching
Tattari has the least number of starts and barely stayed out of the basement in average earnings per start though she has a very respectable 50% in-the-money record. Her only win came in an MC5000. This is her first stakes start. In her favor are her improving speed figures. In addition, in her last six starts she’s never been worse than fifth and never over 2.75 lengths back. Her best speed figure, an 89, came in her last race, a C60,000. She has a win and a second at this distance.
2) Stonybrook Piko 3f 16 3-2-3 $40,780
Tavasco x Lomond x Piko
Like Tattari, Stonybrook Piko has a 50% in-the-money rcord, as well as her best speed rating in her last race. She’s been in one restricted stakes (8th, 9 lengths back), and has won at 6 furlongs though she generally runs at a mile or so.
3) Back Road 4f 21 4-6-1 $141,744
Lord Parham x Bob Back x Herculean
She has, barely, the best speed point figure in the field. She’s been in three stakes, a G3 (unplaced) and two restricted stakes including a second in last year’s Delta Tiger which is this race’s old name. She often runs at about this distance.
4) Number Seven 3f 16 3-0-1 $19,972
Numerous x Oh Say x Native Born
Still another whose best speed figure was in her last race, but her in-the-money record is far less than the others. She has won at this distance – a C3500. She also won at 6l5 furlongs in a C60,000.
Her ninth race back was an MC10,000 which she won. She ran in last year’s Bargain Bowl Charlie’s Tiger, finishing 8th.
5) Barasingha 3f 15 4-6-2 $76,184
Deerhound x Linkage x Diaghlyphard
Barasingha is another whose last speed figures are her best – her last two were 90s and she won both races. This is her first stakes race and she usually runs about 6 furlongs though her average eranings are better on turf.
6) Wariuz Corp 3f 10 1-3-0 $29,204
Legion x Gold Fever x Crimson Satan
Wariuz Corp has one recent very disappointing speed figure but that could be attributed to a bad choice of distance. Her last four races have produced 80s, well below most of her competitors. Her only win was 8 races back in an MSW for $23,300. She’s been in three stakes, all restricted, all unplaced, including the Bargain Oaks and Diamond Ozark, competing in both against Wariuz Legion.
7) Enthusiam Spreads 4f 27 11-5-3 $306,532
Artax x Guilty Conscience x Plugged Nickel
Enthusiasm Spreads has 1) the second best speed figure, 2) the most 100+ speed figures, 3) slightly 66.6% in-the-money record, 4) the most earnings (about double those of Back Road), and 5) the best average earning (almost double those of, again, Back Road). She won her last, a 6.5 furlong allowance with a speed rating of 101. She’s run in three stakes, one restricted )second in the Paint Brush, two unplaced.
She also has six earlier stakes, none graded (4-1-1) and two 100+ speed figures. She was third in last year’s Delta Tiger while Back Road was second.
8) Wariuz Legion 3f 11 1-4-3 $65,138
Legion x Mogambo x Herat
Wariuz Legion’s best speed figure is a 90, but the races selected for her give her perhaps the best in-the-money percentage in this field along with the third best average earnings. She usually sprints though her only win was a 7 furlong MSW seven races back. She competed atainst Wariuz Corp in both the Bargain Oaks (4th) and Diamond Ozark (2nd, off track).
9) Dixieland 5f 40 7-8-10 $163,464
Al Mufti x Raise a Man x Sensitivo
Dixieland is the oldest entrant in this race. Disregarding a speed figure of 69 (possibly a sign of a wrong surface or distance or of coming back groggy or worse), her recent speed figures have run 88 to 100.
Her last stakes race was nearly two years ago, with a third in December, 2005, and her last win was in February. She has won at this distance.
A number of these fillies have met each other. In the Sugar Spice, restricted, Back Road was second, Wariuz Legion sixth, Wariuz Corp seventh, and Stonybrook Piko eighth.
In the Paint Brush, Back Road won with a 108 speed figure with Enthusiasm Spreads in second with a 106.
The Delta Tiger, last year’s name for this race, had Back Road second and Enthusiam Spreads third.
Number Seven competed in the Bargain Bowl last year finishing eighth in the Charlie’s Tiger.
Wariuz Corp and Wariuz Legion both ran in the Bargain Oaks and the Diamond Ozark. “Corp” was seventh in the Oaks and fifth in the Ozark, while “Legion” was fourth in the Oaks and second in the Ozark on an off-track.
