The Sand Lizard Bonanza
Five two-year-old fillies will run this Saturday in the Sand Lizard Bonanza. The race is 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track. The purse is $40,000. 1 (9/5) – Favorite COREY’S LUCK (KY) is coming into the Sand Lizard off a victory in the Kittyhawk Stakes. This summer, she finished third in the Speed Bluff Challenge. She’s shown a general pattern of gradual improvement throughout her two-year-old season, but if she wants two wins in a row, she’ll have to contend with NIGHTHAWK PRIME. 2 (2/1) – It’s difficult to separate second-choice NIGHTHAWK PRIME (IRE) from favorite COREY’S LUCK. Both fillies ran identical speed numbers in their most recent races – 82 – and have consistently improved throughout the year. NIGHTHAWK PRIME has actually earned more money than COREY’S LUCK. She’s finished on the board in three stakes races, and won the Endless Hana Special in September. 3 (3/1) – BLUERAE (KY) – This Bluegrass Cat filly is still a maiden, having finished second in her only start, a Maiden Special Weight. It looks like she has some talent, but this is an ambitious placing for such an inexperienced racehorse. 4 (9/2) – STORMY PETREL (KY) had a rough race last time out in the Grade II Margarine Stakes, where she finished last. She is capable of doing better – she won a Maiden Special Weight and an NW2L allowance before finishing second in the Repulsively Pop Bonanza. It’ll be difficult to win here going up against the likes of COREY’S LUCK and NIGHTHAWK PRIME, but she could very well battle FIDDLE’N KRIS for third. 5 (5/1) – FIDDLE’N KRIS (JPN) has done well in a number of allowance races, although she hasn’t won since breaking her maiden in May. Without a major improvement, it’s unlikely she’ll be fighting for a win, but with a good race she could certainly hit the board. At 5/1, she looks to be a better value than both STORMY PETREL and the untested BLUERAE.
