Bargain Bred Series Cemetery Winter Distaff

BARGAIN BOWL IV

Many thanks to Knightmare for bringing us the 4th installment of the Bargain Bowl. A field of 11 fillies and mares head to the post for this running of the Cemetery Winter Distaff. We have a little bit of everything in here – from a past Bargain Derby winner to gals who have won open stakes to runners who have yet to even attempt an allowance race. And we’ve got sires that not many have even heard of much less used in the sim. But, that’s what this day is all about!

PP1 16/1 Our Moon(FR) lgbost8 Ti Matthews

Our Moon represents the cheapest sire in this race, Tzar Rodney who managed 2 career Gr3 wins. This 6yo is a true bargain bred with I.M. Phil as DS and Wajima for her DDS. Currently running for the lgbost empire she has won at distances from a 6 furlong sprint all the way out to a 2 mile endurance test. She’s done most of her damage from 11 furlongs and farther, but her career best SP came in a 10 furlong SA last September. She doesn’t look to have much of a chance here but, while she doesn’t exactly have a “storied” career, she has been a very serviceable runner for her owners.

PP2 5/1 Little Guinea Pig(MD) flemington C Winter

Little Guinea Pig is a 3yo filly by the Mr. Prospector sire Polish Miner running in the colors of the Flemington stable. Completing her breeding are Dracula and Staff Writer. She’s a 2 time stakes winner, one of only 3 showing on Polish Miner’s sire stat page. She’s post SP’s of 100 in 2 of her last 3 but was passed late in both, which she has shown a tendency for in her races with larger fields. She would greatly have benefited from an off track here but didn’t get so lucky.

PP3 9/2 Model H(GB) larsonisk V Everett

It appears that the Larsonee stables plucked Model H out of a 4k claimer as a 2yo and she has paid dividends ever since. She must have been bred from the great beyond (sort of fitting given the name of this race) as her sire, the fairly unaccomplished Moulin, died in 1996 and she is only 4 years of age. Completing her breeding are Sinjar and Cossack Warrior. She posted a career best SP of 106 back in January of this year but has not shown near that form since. This will be her longest trip to date and she just might benefit from the added distance with her closing style.

PP4 12/1 Dodge The Vicar tyr P Graham

Ladies and gentleman, we have a true star of the Bargain Bred series in Dodge The Vicar. She’s 5 now, but she won the Bargain Derby back in 2006 and is making her 3rd start in this race. Currently running the in british colors of Tees stables, she is by Dodge with DS/DDS slots filled by Vicar and National Assembly. She’s on the down hill side of her career, having won only once since September of last year, but with 6 non-MCOS wins and career earnings of over $340k she surely deserves her spot in here.

PP5 7/2 Rundo(KY) runvus1 T McGriggs

One of Hawkz’ entries, Rundo, is a 4yo mare out of the Canadian triple crown winner Wando, with DS/DDS slots filled by Sort and Hermitage. She’s already got a couple of runner up finishes in the Bargain Bred series, the latest coming 2 back where she was passed very late at 8.5 furlongs. That has happened in 3 of her 4 races at that distance – the other was just not a good day for her – so the added ½ furlong doesn’t look to bode well for her here.

PP6 5/1 Rendezvous Rate(IRE) foxon6 J White

Foxon sends out Rendezvous Rate, a 3yo filly by sophomore sire Diamond Green, a Gr3 winner in France, with Stutz Blackhawk and Dashing Blade filling out the breeding. She is Diamond Green’s top earner to date, topping even foxon’s grade winning 3yo filly Change of Scenery. She has hit the board in 14 of her 19 career starts and is coming off a career best SP of 102. That was in a 7 furlong sprint but she has shown versatility winning from 5 furlongs out to 8.5 furlongs. Her three tries at longer resulted in a pair of 3rd place finishes and a runner-up spot.

PP7 29/1 Scapola(KY) planobrgn M Atie

Planoaxia stables’ entry, Scapola, could be a real wild card in this one. A lightly race 3yo with breeding of Blazonry x Lexicon x Robellino, she has never even attempted allowance company. After breaking her maiden in a MSW in her 4th start she was dropped into the claiming ranks down to a low of 4K. She managed to win her last claiming race, a 15k nw2l, then a 4k SA at today’s distance. She put up a very nice SP of 94 in winning by almost 3 lengths so it’s anybody’s guess as to how fast she could have run that day. Those last 2 were her only routes and not against the best of opposition but she looks to have hit her stride.

PP8 10/1 Evil Mounister elamananou R Fisher

Evil Mounister, one of Hawkz’ entries, has almost matched her sire’s RL record of 2 wins in 11 starts. She has won 2 of her 10 trips to the post, clearing her nw2l condition 3 back. She’s found the going quite a bit tougher trying to get over the next hump and will make her stakes debut in this one. Would think with the Deputy Minister and Damascus bloodlines (DS is Desert Wine and DDS is Droll Role) that she would like more distance but she has faded pretty badly in her last 2 efforts at just 8 furlongs. Maybe she’s one of those that will wake up with more distance??

PP9 8/1 Berosus(NY) airtiger L McNeil

Yea! Deltatiger has a runner here. Berosus is a 4yo mare by Best Of Luck x Ago x Reprimand. Best of Luck’s claim to fame are his wins in the Peter Pan Stakes and the Stuyvesant Hcp. He shows no stakes winners on his sim sire stats page and the mare fit right in with that. She has been a solid performer in the allowance ranks and has performed well in her limited stakes tries, including a fast closing 3rd in this race last year. Another who would have appreciated a little rain as she is 3-for-3 on off tracks. Her best just might be good enough here but she isn’t in her best form of late.

PP10 8/1 Tap Dancer Semvi popsracing S Munoz

Tap Dancer Semvi has one of those unique sim breedings of Fred Astaire/Groom Dancer/Tap On Wood. Wonder how she got her name? Her sire managed to dance his way to a Gr2 win and a 3rd place finish in the Breeder’s Cup Mile. One of the old ladies in here, this 6yo runs in the colors of the host Knightmare stables. She managed a win in the Bargain Summer Distaff, her only win since coming to his barn. She will have lots of company trying to close late and will probably have to have a better effort to win this one.

PP11 13/1 Wigelsworth(TX) zizizi K Everett

Jijiji stables’ 4yo runner Wigelsworth didn’t make it to the track until the start of this year, but she’s been making up for lost time with 5 wins in 15 starts, 2 of those being allowance wins. Another TRUE bargain bred she has breeding of Lightning Leap x To America x Explodent. Her sire won only one listed stakes race and placed in several others but has sired Nebraska and Oklahoma champion runners. Another who could be a real wild card in here, she’s lightly raced and her best efforts – and 2 of her 5 wins – have come at 10 furlongs. Don’t know that she’s quite up to the other closers’ levels but she is certainly intriguing.
