Special Member who is very very out there

Another week goes by and we have the Wayward Member Special this week for 2yo’s over 6 furlongs on the firm turf track.

Wayward Member is now a 10yo horse out of Mr. Greeley x Affirmed x Gallant Romeo.  Career details were 29 races for 5 wins all on the turf and earnings of $162,640. Owner was diablo4eve. Never won at Stakes level but performed well at Allowance level.

And so we have another batch of 2yo’s trying to make their mark here – let’s see who looks alright…

1  O’REILLY OF COLAC(NZ)

The first thing we notice is that she is unraced and up against the boys here.  Out of O’Reilly(NZ) x Lion Hunter(AUS) x Carnegie(IRE).  O’Reilly(NZ) has produced 2 stakes winners over the last 5 years so there is some potential here.  Still up against some proven runners and may well find it hard going on debut.  Big odds on the tote and rightly so.

2  MONSTERS INC(AUS)

Love the movie after which this one is named and he is also Aussie bred out of Charge Forward(AUS) x Redoute’s Choice(AUS) x Kris(GB).  Trained by local QLD trainer michaelb from the Mick Bailey Racing group and is also the favourite on the tote here.  And if you take a moment to look at his career you will see why.  Never run worse than third place and has run in 3 Stakes races now.  Last time out was his second win and career best speed of 90 winning by a head.  Fast runner and has been improving with each run.  Should scare this field off the track if he runs like that again.  My pick as well.
 
3  INSIDE EDITION(KY)

Out of Roman Ruler x Sadler’s Wells x Raise A Native is trained by local QLD trainer in aces1211 from the NextBonus Racing group. Interesting girl this one with her debut run resulting in a win and a speed of 74 in a maiden.  Next out she ran a nice second place finish in the Smark Stakes over 6.5 furlongs. Her last race was on a yielding turf in the G3 Palms Outward Stakes and finished third across the line over 7 furlongs although fading somewhat behind the winner.  Should go well here even against the young colts in this race and could be challenging at the end although will need to run a career best speed you would think.  Have to say though she did like that yielding turf track…

4  SEMPER FORTIS(KY)

Another of the favourites on the tote who could be there at the end is this colt from E Dubai x Theatrical(IRE) x Cryptoclearance.  Got his first and only win on his third outing at maiden level over 6 furlongs with a very nice speed of 84.  Last time out was over 6.5 furlongs at Allowance level but finished fourth across the line and seemed to be fading a little over that last half furlong.  Back to 6 furlongs here and could also figure at the end.  Going to be a close race here you would think.

5  STC WOLF(IN)

This one has done some racing since his debut back in mid May with 7 runs to date.  Debuting on a good dirt track ran an impressive speed of 75 for a win first up.  Was then swapped to Turf at G3 level where he ran same speed but finished 6th across the line that day.  Since then has run exclusively at Allowance level until today picking up 2 second places and a third across the line.  Consistently running around the late 70’s speeds now  is yet another runner here who could figure in the final three.  Not too sure if the distance is too short for him but we will see what he prefers. 

6  SPINITAGAINSAM(KY)

Spin what Sam?  A bottle? Magic? Luck? Who knows.  Maybe the owner will leave us a message on the forums so we know how he came to be named and I can the include that in my review of the race. Spinitagainsam is out of Flower Alley x Black Tie Affair(IRE) x Brian’s Time.  Five races to date with the one win which came in his second outing debuting on turf over 6 furlongs.  Since then has run second in the Boy S Memorial stakes, fifth in the G3 Omnipotent Juvenile and last time out third in the Art Tilting Stakes.  Used to this level now and at 9/1 odds is actually good odds for a horse that could well be up there crossing the line.  Definitely one to consider.
 
7  WILDLY OPERATIC(ENG)

Out of Librettist x Forest Wildcat x Coronado’s Quest is also from a local QLD trainer (few of those in this race isnt there? well it is the Qld Stakes race folks!) in k0dyfrom the North Queensland Cowboys racing group.  This one is lightly races with his debut win coming from his last outing, second race with a speed of 77 and crossing first over 6.5 furlongs.  Came from the rear of the field and finished very strongly.  Bigger odds of 13/1 but going off that last run could well be crossing first.  In saying that he is dropping back in distance so will have to start his run early otherwise he may be playing catchup too late.  One more thing – love the name!
 
8  REHEDA RUN(IRE)

Odds: 4/1    

From Red Clubs x Hennessy x Danehill has had 8 outings for 3 wins. Cleverly named after all three of those champions, bar 2 races has run all on turf and been quite successfull as you can see from his career earnings.  Those runs include a second place finish in the G3 Coventry Steaks as well as another 2nd in a Stakes race and a win in the Niner Marc Special over 6.5 furlongs.  Failed in the G1 High Flyer Stakes over 8 furlongs but ran on well over 7 furlongs last time out at Stakes level for a second place finish and a career best speed of 84. Back to what looks like his preferred distance here today is a real challenger to the favourite.  Definitely worth backing.

9  CLEAR MANIFESTO(JPN)

Magnificent start to his career with 2 wins from 2 outings on dirt, is out of Diktat(GB) x Lear Fan x Fusaichi Pegasus. Now you might wonder why is the trainer putting him into a Stakes race on turf when he has only run on dirt.  Well his sire in Diktat(GB) early on a few years earlier was producing turf runners although that has changed to dirt in later years.  Not many runners sired by Diktat and no stakes winners here.  This one looks good – just would have preferred to see him run on turf first.  If it had been dirt here he might have been challenging. 

And they are the runners for today, 9 runners in total.  Last week it was 3+3=6.  This week it could be 3*3=9 haha… na I dont think so.  Why am I laughing by myself at myself????  Anyway after that little rambling my picks are:
