G1, Chatterbox Stakes

We are headed over to the country roads of West Virginia this weekend where on the card we will find the running of the G1, Chatterbox Stakes.  The race will be at the distance of 13 furlongs across a track that will be listed as fast dirt at post time.  Ten horses have entered, and this should be an exciting race as many of those entered will be seeking their first graded win. This race is restricted to 3 year olds only. The morning line odds have been released and the post positions have been drawn.  Let us now take a preview of the entries that will make the start in the G1, Chatterbox Stakes.

Making their way out first will be this Brown Colt (FLIGHTLINE x DYNAFORMER x STORM CAT) that three starts back would finish in second in the G1, Sand Castle Derby-Derby Lock Prep.  He has made two more starts since that time, both of which he was off the boards.  In his most recent start in New Jersey, he would go 9 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Star Prospector Dirt Route.  He would make a like effort to make up some ground down the stretch but could only find a sixth place finish.  The owner would like to see some added effort this weekend as he moves his horse back up in class and gives his horse the opportunity to go some added distance when they head out of the paddock representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

2OUTBACK HANGINGKY3Moutback2H Desitter9456%$904,43482.009/2

This is a Chestnut Colt (CURLIN x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x QUALITY ROAD) that has been performing well in his two most recent starts.  He would pick up a Listed Stakes win two starts back in the Teddy Slew Dirt Route.  He would then make his most recent start in New York going 12 furlongs in the G1, The New Yorker.  He would close nicely down the stretch after being nine lengths back at the third call to pull into second at the wire.  It is the owners desire to continue to see his horse on the boards at this level of racing when they head over to their gate representing the Midas residency.

3LEASE THE LAW LVKY3Gazuma25C Gerhke8487%$161,64518.006/1

This is a Chestnut Gelding (TIZ THE LAW x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x AWESOME AGAIN) that three starts back would get a second place finish in the Year Of The Vote Dirt Route.  He remains winless at the stakes level of racing but has put together three nice races in a row.  Most recently he would head out in Pennsylvania going 12 furlongs in a $46500 NW3x Allowance race.  He stayed close out of the gate and by third call he had the race all wrapped up as he went on to win by four and a half lengths.  He is moving up in class this weekend and getting a big opportunity to prove himself as he heads out at post time representing the Only Stayers residency.

Coming out next we have this Light Grey Colt (TAPIT x DISTORTED HUMOR x UNCLE MO) that has had both dirt and turf racing experience.  He has shown he can run well on both, but his two most recent starts have been on the dirt.  Last time at the track he would try his luck at the graded level as he came out in Ontario going 10 furlongs in the G2, The Fake Honeymoon Stakes.  His performance was fairly flat throughout this race, and he would cross the wire in fourth some seven and half lengths back.  He will get another big shot at a graded prize this weekend when he heads out in the post parade representing The Mecca residency.

Next, we have this Chestnut Colt (CURLIN x DANZIG x A.P. INDY) that has two very good looking recent starts.  Two starts back he would win the Volotile Seattle Dirt Route.  He would then make his way to New York where he would go 12 furlongs in the G1, The New Yorker.  He was all business in this race as he bolted to the front out of the gate and never looked back as he made a gate to wire trip to pick up the win by two and a half strides.  He will be seeking his second G1 win in a row this weekend.  Don’t let this rabbit get away as he may put you away when he breaks from his gate representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

6REEL APPROACHIRE3Mtenpoint10J Drozd10480%$2,164,16528.287/1

This is a Chestnut Colt (HIGHLAND REEL x NEW APPROACH (IRE) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY) that has been running exclusively on the turf and that will be making the first dirt start of his career.  He is a graded winner on the turf with a win in the G2, The No Allies and a follow up win in the G1, The Japanese Derby.  Then came his most recent start in Paris going 12 furlongs in the G1, The French Grand Pix.  He put up another good effort in this race to find the boards with a third place finish.  The big question this weekend is can this horse make a smooth transition over to the dirt?  If so he could be a contender when he head out on the dirt track for the first time representing the All-Starts Racing residency.

7CURLIN SONG CATKY3Mddkstables0W Cahill10360%$265,14516.007/1

Here we have a Chestnut Colt (CURLIN x STORM CAT x UNBRIDLED’S SONG) who as a two year old would get a graded win in the G3, Darling-Squash Futurity.  Since that time, he has remained winless and has struggled in his first three starts this season as a three year old.  In his most recent start, he would be seen running in Iowa going 8.5 furlongs in the G2, Flat Land Derby.  He would struggle in this race and never be a factor as he crossed the wire well back in eleventh.  He will need to bring his best effort this weekend and find a little more firepower in those legs when he come out of the paddock to the cheers of an excited crowd.

8STREETORIALKY3Mamir1628D Raymond11482%$205,28711.506/1

Next, we have this Brown Colt (STREET SENSE x UNBRIDLED x HALO) that has been running very well for the owner.  Two starts back he would get his first stakes win in a Listed Stakes, The ERC Are You A Champion Cup.  He would then come out for his most recent start in New York where he would go 12 furlongs in a $79500 Allowance race of which he would close sharply down the final stretch to pick up the win by five lengths over his closest rival.  He gets his first graded start this weekend in West Virginia and the owner hopes to see his horse continue to find the boards when he is sent over to his gate representing the Elite Racing Club residency.

9CACHUO DEL SURARG3GloscachuosB Bauder11473%$186,4089.0610/1

Here we have a Light Grey Gelding (ZENSATIONAL x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x KINGMAMBO) that had been running on the turf successfully but that has made his two most recent starts on the dirt, also successfully.  His most recent start would come in Brazil in an Owner Restricted Listed Stakes, Clasico Republica de Venezuela.  He would make a big charge down the final stretch of this 12 furlong race from over eleven lengths back at the third call.  The jockey would give him a couple of good taps and drive him to the wire picking off horses to get up for the win by a neck.  He will take a big jump in class this weekend and we will see if this late closer can get the job done when he heads out representing the Latinos Del Mundo residency.

10AIRLINERKY3MfdllodgehH Ross11255%$128,9405.008/1

Breaking from the final gate in this race will be this Bay Colt (FLIGHTLINE x PIONEEROF THE NILE x SEATTLE SLEW) that would give his best performance three starts back when he would find a third place finish in the G2, Heat Less Stakes.  In his next start he would be off the boards in sixth in the G1, Rod Edwards Commemorative Derby.  This leads up to his most recent start that would come in California going 9 furlongs in the G2, Swamps Stakes.  He would have a rough trip this time out as he was never a factor finishing up in thirteen.  He will need to find some extra effort this weekend as he come out to run the longest distance of his career representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

Good luck to all owners and horses!

Skippy’s Watch List

2-Outback Hanging: Was second last time in a G1. Can he find a win this time?

5-Before You Knew:  Gate to wire win in a G1 last time.  Can he repeat?

6-Reel Approach: Run well on the turf.  What about the dirt?

Tarton’s Long Shot

9-Cachuo Del Sur:  This horse has had an interesting career running on both turf and dirt and mainly in Owner Restricted races against a lighter class of contenders than he will face this weekend.  He is the longest choice in the field going off at 10/1 in the morning line.  His last two starts have both been at 12 furlongs and he has won both of them.  He looks like the distance will be good for him here in West Virginia this weekend but the jump in class and lack of facing graded contenders before could make some reluctant to give him a bet at the windows.  He could be a surprise this weekend in this field if he can rise to the occasion.  I feel he is worth being on some exotic tickets at the betting window this weekend so let’s give him a little support.
