The Canadian flag waves proudly over Woodbine Raceway as we celebrate Canada’s 157th Birthday with the running of the 4th Annual Elite Racing Club Canada Cup. A star studded crowd including Martin Short and Ryan Reynolds has shown up at the track and PWHL Toronto leading scorer Natalie Spooner is on hand for the call of “Riders Up!”. Michael Buble will sing Oh Canada and once again Molson Canadian is on tap for all.

Ten Canadian bred two year olds have enjoyed a steady diet of Poutine and Maple Syrup all week and they are raring to go. They will run seven furlongs on the dirt in what should be a tightly contested battle for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse. The victorious owner/trainer will also pick up the winner’s share of the stakes bonus points the club uses for its various awards.

harrylan’s PIONEEROF SUNDAY took home last year’s race that featured 4+ year old fillies and mares on the dirt.  Who will be posing in the Winner’s Circle this year?

Out of the mapleleafdowns barn (dunn) is this two year old KNOW IT NOW filly out of the Sim Mare MISS MANAGE. He broke his Maiden in his only start to date when he ran 74 speed over a six furlong track in British Columbia where he beat stable mate COLLUSION CANYON by more than three lengths. He will look to get out front early and will need a big bump in speed if he hopes to earn the ownership group their first ERC win of the year.

Out of the amir1610 barn is this two year old FED BIZ colt out of the Sim Mare NOVUM EBORACUM. He comes in HOT with back to back wins in his first two career starts. Last time out he ran 79 speed over a six and a half furlong fast track here at Woodbine and beat newfy’s SAGEMILLER by a little more than a length. He will likely look to run near the back of the pack in the early going before kicking it into high gear as they come down the stretch and should have a good chance of finding a spot on the board.

Out of the wintersetfinco barn is this two year old FED BIZ fillyout of the Sim Mare SUMMIT VIEW. One of two entries in the race without a previous start is making her debut here and will look to break her Maiden and earn her the stable their third ERC win of the season.

Out of the harrylanlow25 barn is this two year old MOHAYMEN colt out of the Sim Mare FLEW TO PARIS.  He broke his Maiden in early April when he ran 77 speed over a six furlong track in Louisiana. Last time out he impressed with 82 speed but finished second in an Allowance Race  in Kentucky that was won easily by TEST OF A WARRIOR. He should like the extra distance here and will likely go off as the early favorite.

Out of the callie barn (chino)is this two year old AMERICAN GURU colt out of the Sim Mare THE BRIGADIER. He is making the fourth start of his career and is still looking to break his Maiden. He had his best finish two back when he ran 72 speed over a six furlong track in Ireland where he finished third and more than three lengths back of winner NIGHTMARE THRONE. I expected that we would see his stable mate BIGBIZZ here who blazed 81 speed last time out at a win in Brazil.

Out of the jbcri14 barn is this two year old MOHAYMEN colt out of the Sim Mare MAHABBA. He is making his third start here and is still looking to break his Maiden after finishing sixth in his debut in April and fourth last time out on the first day of June. He saw a nice jump to 73 speed in that one and I think he will like the extra distance here and will battle for a spot on the board.

Out of the newfyclaims barn is this two year old KNOW IT NOW colt out of the Sim Mare DRAGONTRIPPING. He  broke his Maiden two back when he went gate to wire here at Woodbine and ran 68 speed against a small field of four. Last time out he ran 77 speed and held the lead for most of the race before being caught and passed by THOUGHT PROCESSES. He comes in well rested and should be one to watch as he competes out of the nine hole.

Out of the ric804 barn is this two year old COLLUSION ILLUSION colt out of the Sim Mare MAGIC SLAP. He  began his career in early January with a fourth place finish at a four and a half furlong race in Florida and followed that up with a runner-up finish right here at Woodbine where he impressed with 73 speed but couldn’t hold the lead. He comes in well rested and should be in the mix as they make the turn for home.

Out of the razer2024 barn (summerset) is this two year old MOHAYMEN filly out of the Sim Mare SHE GOT CURVES. She broke her Maiden in a HOT race debut on January 10 where she ran 52 speed against three CPU horses over a four and a half furlong track in British Columbia. She ran career best 70 speed last time out when she went six and a half furlongs and finished sixth at an Allowance Race in Kentucky.
