Big Dog Race Review
Another good day at the Queensland track in the Big Dog Bonanza Stakes where it was the 2yo’s showcasing their stuff over 7 furlongs (1400m) on the firm turf track.
1st
SPAWN OF THE DEVIL(IRE) was the winner here after jumping well and maintaining his position well throughout the race cruising to a good victory with a career best speed of 84. Devil of a run, first Stakes win and the trainer and horse will be partying tonight after that win. Superb stuff and congratulations to his trainer tihsho! That takes his overall win tally to 3 wins now in Maiden, Allowance and now the Stakes level.
2nd
AZ A ROYALTY(IRE) was next in second place and what a good run it was too. Jumped well in second and thats where he stayed for the entire race. Speed of 83 which wasnt his career best but wasnt far behind either (87). Apart from the one failing at G1 level, he has never placed worse than third. Consistent runner and a good one for the triner in uask4it. This distance looks good for him too. I think he is suited to this grade and hopefully will keep him at this level just to build up his confidence as well as getting the results. Well done here.
3rd
PLAYERS CHAMPION(TX) is from one of the local Qld trainers in Hawkz Racing Inc. I said he would pressuring at the end and thats exactly what happened, finishing in a well run 3rd place. Speed of 80, would probably enjoy some extra distance on what he ran today. The trainer is stepping him up slowly with each race both in level and distance and so far he continues to impress. In his 3 starts, has never finished out of the money and is worth following the progress of this one. Congrats to qnslander1 from Hawkz Racing Inc. Always a good day when our local trainers succeed at this level.
4th
AMNEZIA MEMORIES(AUS) finished in fourth place and getting a small share of the money. No memory problems today and the amnesia must have gone for a holiday as this one came from the rear to be finishing strongly at the line. Good decent run and had on board C Wyatt – respected jockey at the course here. And of course – this one is Aussie bred.
5th
THE STEELMAN(IRE) based on his two runs really didnt perform to expectations here. I had him as a real chance – in fact I had him as the winner. I did pick 2nd and 3rd place though. Only the one run prior to this race but he looked very impressive in that run. Maybe he came back too quick although he did get a 4 week break. Anyway he is out of a well respected and successful local trainer from the Nextbonus Racing stables in Queensland who knows what they are doing. Im sure he will be back again at this level in the not too near future. Was a disappointing fading run though.
Rest of the Field
ROUND WOLF(AUS) from the third local Qld trainer here wasnt going to win today. Jumped well and had the early lead but from around mid-race started to fade and couldnt go on with it.
HURRICANE GABANSKI(IRE) did find this harder as I suggested in my race preview. In fact he finished a disappointing 7th out of 7 runners. I would probably keep him in Allowance racing for some further success out of this one.
