Local Qld Trainer Favourite

Welcome back to the Queensland track where we have today a great card of races including the Unbridled Swansong Stakes over 6 1/2 furlongs.  The track is rated as firm turf and the purse is a lazy $60,000 for the 3yo and up who will be contesting. The crowds are here too including all the punters heading for the betting ring, the kids enjoying the hot dogs and ice cream and of course the members elite who are dressed up to the nines to impress.  Who will you be backing?  Who do you think is worth putting some cash on? Lets take a look at the runners…

1 KEEP ON BURNIN’

Owner: milkshaker
Record: 33-8-8-0
Earnings: $190,478
Jockey: M Cameron
Odds: 7/1

A lot of runners in this race who could win today and this one is no exception. Likes to jump and burn the competition off with his speed and did exactly that in early August in The Band of Gold Bonanza Stakes with a wire to wire win and a speed rating of 111. Last time out was late August in the G2 Cane Toad Stakes and finished a respectable fifth place in that one.  Likes this distance – in fact the 6.5 furlongs looks to be where he gets his wins. Big chance and highly rated – out of A.P. Indy.  Well worth backing if you want some cash back.  Definite place chance if not the win.

2 TIGER’S EYE(KY)

Owner: tigertrack
Record: 31-9-5-3
Earnings: $325,650
Jockey: T Phillips
Odds: 7/1

The Tigers Eye out of Gulch. A 4yo colt and rumoured to stare his competition down with that hungry menacing look that only tigers can give you before they kill their prey. Having some good runs of late, finished second in The Judge Bluff Stakes over 6.5 furlongs with an impressive speed of 111.  Failed in the G1 next time out but backed upwith a well placed third over 7.5 furlongs in The Free Flowing Memorial. Still looking for the optimum distance for him but this distance here should definitely suit.  Apart from the G1 outing is very consistent for finishing in the money. Cant really go wrong backing him on that form.

3 FAST TALKER(IRE)

Owner: deepsouth
Record: 29-12-6-5
Earnings: $373,326
Jockey: M Radke
Odds: 7/1

Have you ever met anyone who talks non-stop, you cant get a word in and you just end up listening and walking away after a while?  Welcome to Fast Talker, the horse who talks his trainer into the ground, bores all the horses in the stable and even talks in his sleep about his runs, his wins, his life in general.  A 4yo colt out of Oratorio he can also back up his talking on the track coming off a well run first placing in The Free Flowing Memorial stakes over 7.5 furlongs and a speed rating of 111.  This is another one who can take this out I think – specially if he reproduces his last effort.  The distance should suit him based on his wins at Allowance level and should be a real chance here.  Trust me, you will know if he wins – youll hear him coming.

4 SEATTLE SWING(KY)

Owner: brum
Record: 28-5-2-4
Earnings: $108,555
Jockey: S Gann
Odds: 18/1

“Swing low….”.  This is Seattle Swing a 4yo colt out of Victory Gallop.  Just coming into his own and making the recent jump to Stakes racing after being raced almost exclusively at Allowance level for much of his career.  Trainer brum since acquiring him has been dropping him in and out of Stakes level hoping for a good run incuding the G3 Otter Dash over 4.5 furlongs. Continues to win at the Allowance level but hasn’t really impressed at Stakes yet although the last run was encouraging with a fourth place across the line in The Lil Bro Stakes over 6 furlongs.  Will need to step up to impress here.

5 DANCIN IN THE BANK(KY)

Owner: texasace00
Record: 12-3-4-1
Earnings: $214,480
Jockey: C Wyatt
Odds: 19/1

Although not the longshot of the race, certainly one of the roughies at the tote odds of 19/1.  This 3yo colt has been running well and consistently at the Allowance level and the trainer has rightly decided to trial him at Stakes level.  His three races at this level included a second placing in the Niner Tow Challenge, a second placing in the G1 Smackdown but then couldnt back that magnificent run up in the G1 Adopt a Greyhound Restricted race.  Last time out was in Allowance company a good turf track and ran a respectable and once again consistent race for second place.  Even though the odds are right out there this is one that could surprise everyone.  Worth backing in my opinion – could be there at the finish and then we will all be dancing all the way to the bank.

6 BT’S COMMANDER(CA)

Owner: bigted11
Record: 28-6-1-7
Earnings: $146,011
Jockey: C Simien
Odds: 19/1

Unlike Dancin in the Bank at the same odds, this one is not in good form.  Last two outings were miserable runs and in Allowance company too so is going to have to really perform to have any chance here.  Prior to that was running well and in Stakes company too with some really consistent runs for placings and in the money each time.  Maybe just maybe he runs better at the higher levels and if thats the case may surprise.  It would have to be a good run though and I really dont like his chances.

7 MARINESCU

Owner: holyfire
Record: 43-8-10-7
Earnings: $262,931
Jockey: P Guyton
Odds: 13/1

Out of Seeking the Gold, this 6yo is approaching the midpoint of his career in terms of races after a fairly successful run.  The distance looks perfect for him after just fading slighly last time out in Allowance level but posting a good speed of 108.  Has never really been able to take on Stakes and make them his own even though performing well at Allowance races.  A chance here maybe.  Needs to run like last time out though and bit of luck as well.

8 WALKSTHROUGHWALLS

Owner: oaklawn66
Record: 34-10-3-4
Earnings: $399,766
Jockey: R Guyo
Odds: 9/1

Apparently this horse is able to walk through walls.  No-one has actually seen it though – its like one of those myths you hear about, probably believe maybe but never been proved.  Trainer is hoping he will walk through this pack to take it out today.  Another one not in good form after failing and I mean failing in his last two runs.  That was coming off a very good and impressive win in the Prospector Spaying Special over 6 furlongs and a good speed rating of 109.  Definite chance here if he finds his form again.

9 HARDER IS BETTER(KY)

Owner: champions2
Record: 24-7-6-4
Earnings: $249,998
Jockey: L McNeal
Odds: 7/1

This one likes the going hard, likes training hard, likes partying hard.  In scintillating form with 3 wins out of his last four outings including a win in the River Dancing Special over 6.5 furlongs.  I really like this one as do the punters at fantastic odds of 7/1, this is the one to back to get a real good return on your hard-earned cash.  Has performed well on the off tracks too never failing to place with 3 runs resulting in a win and two second place finishes.  Not that that matters here but I was just pointing it out. This one looks good.

10 A JUNGLE KING(KY)

Owner: junglelove
Record: 19-5-3-4
Earnings: $164,300
Jockey: V Hull
Odds: 14/1

A jungle king.  A lion.  King of the beasts. King of the jungle.  Out of Cryptoclearane, this 4yo colt is making another try at this level after a great win over 7 furlongs in Allowance company winning by 3 lengths and dominating the field.  This is harder though but can run the speeds. Not sure if he was over-awed in his recent Stakes outing but it will only serve to give him some experience. Probably a good each-way bet this one.

11 ANOTHER HOPEFUL(IRE)

Owner: llama
Record: 20-5-3-6
Earnings: $ 230,996
Jockey: J Ustin
Odds: 5/1

A local Queensland trainer from the rightly named Queensland Stables who happens to also own and run the llama stable.  Trainer’s got a good one here – in fact the favourite of the race on the tote.  And in reasonable form with scintillating speeds including a 113 in The Nefarious (IRE) Bonanza in July resulting in a third place finish.  Hasnt been racking up the wins of late but has been running consistently and in classy company too including his last two runs at G2 and G3 levels.  Should take this out you would think after dropping down a little in class.  Trainer will be hopeful he does but its probably a done deal.

12 TRUE CONTENDER

Owner: worldbeatr
Record: 39-7-8-8
Earnings: $195,171
Jockey: I Bankston
Odds: 11/1

True contender and thats exactly what he is here at 11/1 odds.  Nothing fake here here out of War Chant and coming off a second place finish over 7.5 furlongs, speed rating of 105.  Another one who performs consistently both in finishing places as well as speeds and runs. Making another try at Stakes level here, this 7yo is hoping for some more big wins as he approaches the end of his career.  Should be up there.

13 SO TEMPTING

Owner: sharood
Record: 24-8-6-2
Earnings: $262,720
Jockey: S DeBerg
Odds: 8/1

Preferring distances under 7 furlongs, trainer has picked this race as the one to perform in.  Likes to jump and lead early, preferring to lead the pack around the track and finish first across the line.  And he has done that 8 times in his career most recently in June in Allowance racing.  Since then has run at G3 for a second placing, failed in his G2 race finishing a disappointing second last in 13th place.  Couldnt hang on last time in the Free Flowing Memorial stakes which was over 7.5 furlongs.  Will be at the front here – can he hang on though?  Place.

14 HANDY PHYL

Owner: pizzaman
Record: 37-4-7-4
Earnings: $163,684
Jockey: P Kays
Odds: 27/1

Owned and trained by Hawkz Racing Inc., another local bigtime Queensland trainer.  A handy man in his own right, this horse is often seen fixing the taps, plumbing the drains – just about any job that needs doing around the stables – this is the horse to get.  He can also run coming off a good win the Hank’s Desert Bonanza over 6 furlongs with a speed of 94.  And thats why he is at the long odds of 27/1.  Needs to get that speed up if he is goin to challenge here. He is trained by Hawkz though so anything is possible.  Id watch this one just on the basis of who owns him if nothing else.

So if you are willing to back my thoughts – here is what Im thinking will take this one out:

11 ANOTHER HOPEFUL(IRE)

1 KEEP ON BURNIN’

5 DANCIN IN THE BANK(KY)
