Stable Transfers Abound
Stable Transfers Abound
Auction – 3714 – This week we had a few horses sell for over a million dollars, we had a few million dollar stable transfers, and we had four of the 30 senior horses (8 YO and up) sell for more than $1.00. The top seller of that group was an 8 YO brown mare named Hermit Jessie # 78561. Jessie is by Pyramus and out of a Sharrood mare. Naracing consigned this fine looking individual and Minski3 paid $24,555 for her. I can’t imagine what they are going to do with her but I did hear talk of some jump jockey turned trainer that was looking for big older horses. Speaking of older horses…. It won’t be long before there won’t be anymore of those computer named horses. Names like Down The Banana and Gravely A La Wolf. Of course people name horses some pretty silly things, too. I found Dumpster Rump and Nipnip Gumgwad…… Gumgwad???? Ah well, enough drivel. Here are the auction statistics for the week.

The Auction Seen:
I changed my table this week from ringside to two rows up. I discovered where the air-conditioning vent was and for those of you that have never been in a sales barn – you really need a source to blow around the air. In the summer the barns are hot and so close you can’t breathe. The dust and heat just hang in the air. I don’t know where the air goes in the summer because you would think that the holes that make it drafty and cold in the winter would at least stir the air in the summer. The place was packed as usual and as usual there were some selling, some buying and some just there to be seen – like me! I grabbed a Pepsi from a harried bartender, contemplated having a cold one when Houseriot offered to buy but decided I had better get this written up first.
There was a great group around the TV near the bar. They were mostly arguing over sports book. I saw Steelers and Rams trying to convince Boxerwood and Redsox15 as to which would be the better channel to watch. Minski and Crandy were pouring over the catalog and were much to busy to be bothered, so just nodded in their direction as I made my way down the stairs to my table. Blackruby was searching for Allmules who was stubbornly refusing to leave Haymarket. I saw a lot of the Stc trainers as well as the Bear clan at the back gate. Oldguy was trying to play the fool with Drumms about certain horses in the auction, but wasn’t getting any where.
When I finally got to my table with Refinement, I was surprised to see Ruidowns running down Elkchase. I love Ruidoso (the town) and since it is way up in the mountains I suppose that there are elk – maybe it is a local past time – chasing elk….. I had a nice visit with Roofusdoo and Dodoben who were at the table to my left and spent some time with Cbchief. I was trying to find out if he was chief of the Cb group that was around a few years back but I didn’t learn a thing. Leechy and Russrob came by we discussed the merits of synthetic tracks vs. dirt tracks until the sale was over which will lead us to the top selling horses this week.
The Millionaires:
There were five horses that sold for over a million dollars this week but three of them were stable transfers. The top seller was Brutal #148300 a 4 YO dark brown colt. Brutal was sired by AP Indy and was out of a Kris S mare. Lenny17 consigned this lightly raced (only 12 starts) three time winner. A solid allowance colt he might move up with seasoning and Sdmf8 is certainly hoping so and paid $3,620,003.00 for him.
Hip number 71919 Shadowy Muff took reserve sale honors, selling for $3,300,001. Deadman led the 6 YO blood bay mare in and Syo3 led her out. By Shadow In The Dark out of an Almufti mare, Shadowy Muff is a former $2,500 claimer who has morphed into a restricted stakes specialist and has notched 11 wins from 39 starts. Her last win was in March and she has become a restricted stakes specialist.
Hip numbers #128347 Jacobite Halo, #172174 Wine Transfer and #167922 Soul Surrender all went home on the same van they came in on.
That’s it for this week. Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
