G1, The First Lady Sprint

This week we are headed to Virginia where we will see headlining Saturday’s card the G1, The First Lady Sprint.  This race will be across the firm turf at the distance of 7.5 furlongs.  We have one graded winner in this ten horse field.  All horses will be attempting to pick up their first G1 win.  The odds are tight that were recently released, and the horses all look pretty well matched in this field.  Let us now take a quick preview of the field of fillies that will be running in this year’s G1, The First Lady Sprint.

Breaking from the inside gate will be this Brown Filly (SHOWCASING (GB) x NO NAY NEVER x DUBAWI (IRE)) that has ran very well for the owner in her three most recent starts.  Two starts back she would get up for the win in the Storm Off The Lake Turf Filly Sprint.  She would then make her most recent start in Colorado going 6.5 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, M.R. King Dancer Turf Filly Dash.  She would close nicely down the stretch to get up for the win with a 99 speed rating.  She is coming off two wins in a row and the owner would like to make it three when she is sent out this weekend representing The Mecca residency.

This is a Bay Filly (KANTHAROS x ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) x SAINT LIAM) that has been mainly running on the dirt but that did have one prior turf outing back in November of last season.  Her most recent start would come on the dirt track in Florida where she would go 7 furlongs in the G2, The Girl Up Front.  She hit the third call in second but would lose that spot down the stretch and cross the wire in fourth with a 92 speed rating.  The owner is looking for this horse to rekindle her flame with a hit on the boards when she comes out in the post parade representing the East-West Connection residency.

Next, we will see this Bay Filly (GHOSTZAPPER x DANSILI (GB) x STORM CAT) that never missed the boards in her ten career starts.  She has won her four most recent starts and will be looking to make it five in a row on Saturday.  Last time we saw her was in Surry where she went 7.5 furlongs in the G3, Gemma Stakes.  She picked off a few horses down the stretch and would get up for the win with a 101 speed rating.  The owner feels this race in Virginia this weekend is tailor made for her when he sends her out to the turf to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Next, we have this Light Grey Filly (AUTHENTIC x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x DANEHILL) that has proven she can run on both the dirt and turf surfaces and win.  Her four most recent starts have been on the turf and last time we saw her would be in New South Wales where she would go 7 furlongs in the G1, Encompass Stakes.  At the third call she would find herself in third but would lose her spot and cross the wire in fifth with a 97 speed rating.  The owner is in hope that the start here in Virginia will reward her this time in here second G1 try.  This time I feel the jockey will try and keep her at or very near the leaders when she breaks from her gate to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Next out of the Gowans master stables he finds a second starter for this race in this Bay Filly (MEHMAS x KODIAC (GB) x MAKFI (GB)) who has multiple Listed Stakes wins.  She again looked good in her most recent start which took place here in Virginia when she would go 8 furlongs in the Laguardia Turf Filly Mile.  She got right to work out of the gate and would be out in front by the second call of the race.  She would go on to lead this field to the wire as she picked up the win with a 94 speed rating.  In her career she has had two failed graded starts and the owner hopes that the third try is a charm when she is sent out at post time representing The Mecca residency.
