Sand Castle Fee Duty
Grade I / Group 1*CPU – Purse : $3,000,000
Restricted to 4 Year Olds and Older
8.5 Furlongs | ~1700 Meters | One Mile and One Sixteenths Firm Turf
| 1 | SOVEREIGN END | FR | 5G | thezoo3 | E Cerda | 21 | 8 | $855,830 | 9/1 |
SIYOUNI x STREET CRY x EL PRADO
Coming off a solid 2nd in the GR 1 Newton and a career best SPD 118. This one loves the mile although the extra 1/16 shouldn’t hinder him. If you asked Lenny if he expected this horse to be close to a million dollar earner, He’d be happy with that. I still say look for this one to be stronger in mile races later in the year and even another BB mile race.
| 2 | LOUD MEOW | IRE | 5M | rickjames | O A Haack | 19 | 9 | $397,715 | 10/1 |
LOPE DE VEGA x SADLER’S WELLS x DYNAFORMER
Will tackle GR 1 races finally. Has one blimp in past 6 races (10th in GR 2) otherwise ITM in other 5 (3 wins). Will be looking for lots of speed to catch and conquer as he loves coming from way back! Shorten’s back up from his 9F GR 3 win last time out and with couple of months rest he is ready and loud loaded.
| 3 | DEFENSIVE BRIEFING | IRE | 6M | desimster3 | M Kelly | 20 | 7 | $1,007,195 | 7/1 |
CHURCHILL (IRE) x TAPIT x DYNAFORMER
With M. Kelly back again in the fold and 3 solid GR 1 past performances (3rd and 2 2nd’s). This is his distance with all 7 career wins here. ALW, STKS, Graded it don’t matter and getting 3 hole will benefit this start to finish leader. Although still looking for that 1st GR 1 win.
| 4 | BATTLETROOPER | IRE | 5M | padrestc | F Gossett | 20 | 5 | $453,600 | 17/1 |
SHAMARDAL x MONSUN x DANEHILL
When I first clicked this horse I was looking for the row of Padre cursed 2nd plcs. Gossett comes in here looking for redemption after a lacklustre (9th) where he waited too long to make his move and ran out of track 8.25F. Inconsistent speeds are what are frustrating Padre and history shows another downer one expected here, hope I’m wrong.
| 5 | FANCY LIKE | IRE | 5G | beerkeg | R Hansen | 18 | 5 | $2,807,970 | 15/1 |
GALILEO (IRE) x KINGMAMBO x A.P. INDY
The winner of this race last year with a 119 SPD has since tackled 5 straight GR 1 mile races with one ITM (2nd) to show for it. You’d think BK ran it into the ground but not at all He’s gotten lots of rest between starts. Betting public is not looking for repeat here and I have to agree with them, jock R Hansen has been the problem not the solution and yes he’s got the mount again not instilling confidence.
| 6 | ROCKSTAR TURFSTAR | IRE | 5G | texasace06 | A Jolly | 16 | 6 | $722,000 | 8/1 |
SEA THE STARS x MONTJEU x KINGMAMBO
Tried a different approach last time out going straight for the lead and hanging on by a head for the win 9F. As Billy Idol says “You’re Not a Rockstar!” but this horse sure is trying to be. Consistent since being gelded and a strong 5yr campaign has started great and should continue even after this one.
| 7 | THE BOOK OF BLACK | JPN | 5G | checkmate10 | D Raymond | 25 | 12 | $859,505 | 8/1 |
KITASAN BLACK x GALILEO (IRE) x KRIS S
The leader in wins (12) for this race and after 14 straight 9F races he comes back to 8.5. With the exception of one race (GR 2) his wins have been at the STKS and ALW level. Look for mid to back of the field stalking style even though he has been going monthly from Oct 2023 and that schedule might finally catch up to him.
| 8 | DISS TRACK | IRE | 6G | vodka7 | J Hornibrook | 22 | 3 | $453,823 | 12/1 |
LOPE DE VEGA x FRANKEL (GB) x MR. PROSPECTOR
Only claimer in this race (75K) and desperado must be kicking himself. BK had decided to steer him in milers after a STKS win at this distance with some success in GR 1 & 2 races he stumbled badly last time out at 8.25 (15th) so in true BK fashion he lengthened him out instead of shortening back up. In fairness it was after the winter break layoff so expect to see a better result as drawing middle PP suits this one well.
| 9 | DIVINE CITY | KY | 4M | given24 | Q Cassell | 13 | 8 | $1,520,691 | 12/1 |
MEDAGLIA D’ORO x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x REDOUTE’S CHOICE
Out of mare CITY OF BLADES who in turn was out of HOF’er WISTER ROAD and this screams star in the making! Riding a 4 race win streak at GR 1 & 2 this one has still not even reached it’s potential. Just ask owner Given, he ‘ll be more than happy to tell you his self and sticking with jockey Q Cassell affirms it. Look for a speed dual here, or just sitting in the weeds waiting for someone else’s jockey mistake.
| 10 | NATE BURLESON | ENG | 5G | newmarket5 | D Matas | 16 | 6 | $498,440 | 10/1 |
GOLDEN HORN (GB) x DUBAI MILLENNIUM x MONSUN
Which Nate are we going to get is the ? The stalking one or the fight for the lead and set the pace one? 9F is more his distance so I say going lead and battle with Devine City is the more likely scenario. Rust is the factor also since hasn’t raced since NOV 2023 but it was a career SPD 119 at a GR 2 mile. Somehow he’s gotten lost in Owner Newmarket’s race schedule but has been doing solid works in JPN ready for the 2024 debut.
| 11 | FINANCIAL TIMES | ENG | 6G | grenoble2 | C Matas | 24 | 7 | $1,571,146 | 12/1 |
DUBAWI (IRE) x KING KAMEHAMEHA x SADLER’S WELLS
3rd place in this race last year and 1 win (GR 3) in 5 Graded races since then. Has tackled bigger distances since that win three races ago with not flattering results (9th,12,8th). Maybe father time is catching up as he was great at those race distances a couple of yrs ago. I’m afraid the pace will be too much here aswell.
| 12 | COLDEST WORLD | NZ | 5G | redhill14 | K Ledwith | 19 | 7 | $1,269,680 | 10/1 |
SAVABEEL (AUS) x MONTJEU x CAERLEON
Mom HOF’er COLD WORLD was great at 10F and has passed off some of that stamina as well. Coldest World seems stronger at 9.5F which is evident in winning the GR 1 Kegasus Upper Deck back in Jan. in a career SPD 121. As with many in here tackling shorter, will he also go for the lead or just sit off it to pounce?
| 13 | THE SLUDGE WORKS | IRE | 6G | fallout76 | L Radzinski | 24 | 8 | $2,129,806 | 5/1 |
DARK ANGEL (IRE) x SADLER’S WELLS x MR. PROSPECTOR
Finished 2nd in this race last year after two wins at this distance in GR 3 & 1. Has run in 5 straight GR 1 races since last year’s race with jock L.Radzinski in all but this race last year so public must be taking that into account making him the Morn Line Fav. Outside PP should not be a factor as last time this far out he placed. This should be a solid year and look to achieve even more than last year.
| 14 | THEGREATPRETENDER | KY | 4M | slowrollelite2 | T Loesch | 15 | 4 | $371,035 | 18/1 |
JUSTIFY x SADLER’S WELLS x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY
Hasn’t raced this distance since he was a 2yr old where he won B2B ALW. Oooozzing Potential and coming off a career high SPD 117 in GR 2 Double M at 9F. Owner Slowroll has done just that as far as progressing by winning at each lvl before the jump, thus giving him his debut GR 1. Great stepping stone as there is lots to gain from this race with solid competition. With a bloodline that includes Justify, should see some eye popping race entries later this year.
