Economy Woes Slow Auction
Economy Woes Slow Auction
Auction – 3714 – Summer is over, fall is here and I have returned to the auction beat. I had a good summer – my 2 YO’s did well at the track with a win, two seconds and a third from 6 starts between them. They have now gone down the hill to
The economy downturn has hit the Sim, at least for this week. Not one horse sold for a million dollars or more and the Computer stable was busy replenishing their supply of horses. Only two of the 30 horses offered 9 years and older went for more than a dollar and 78 people thought their horses were worth more than other people were willing to pay. There were about 50 more horses entered last Saturday than last May (the last time I did one of these articles) and the average last May was $74,676.90 compared with $14,945.37 last Saturday. Total sales were also down, last May they were $28,974,639.00 and last Saturday, $4,827,556.00. Quite a drop! Here are the auction stats for last Saturday.

The Auction Seen:
It was pretty busy by the time I arrived ringside. I grabbed a Pepsi and made my way down to my table ringside. It is nice to be important enough (thank you BTB) to have a table by the fire in the winter and ringside the rest of the year. Shades was at the table to my right with Isolde and Wallflower and they were studying the sales catalog looking for those special purchases. Seated to my left were Ozstable and Davesgirl. They were having a spirited conversation about of all things,
In the far corner I saw Kneeboot picking the brain of top trainer Jbdonuts (better known as Seveii of Duke Ali fame). So let’s see what people were buying.
The Millionaires:
Well there weren’t any millionaires, but the top five selling horses that were not stable transfers as far as I can tell, were led by hip # 163404 Take The Weight, a dark bay or brown 2 YO filly by Dehere and out of a Seeking The Gold mare. She was consigned by Deadman and sold to Bonnyd for $500,000. She has room for improvement as with almost $5,000 in earnings, she has never finished in the top three and although I suspect this might be a stable transfer, I can’t prove it.
Rtribbett sold a nice looking 2 YO brown colt to Thepontif for $365,001. Crawfish #123719, is by High Chaparral and is the first foal of the
Reorganized #109807 is a 4 YO copper chestnut colt by Redoute’s Choice out of a Deputy Minister mare. He has won three of his 30 starts and sells with a low claiming tag of $150,000. Springo80 sold this colt to Kartago for $345,543.00.
Markan bought, arguably the best of the top five selling horses for $321,124. Azmara # 122638 is 4 YO dark bay filly by Red Ransom. She has won nine of her 28 starts, has almost $500,000 in winnings and has won two of her last four starts. Azmara is out of the good mare
Tg sold the 3 YO chestnut filly Incredible Ally # 137075, to Rihanna for $300,000. By Afleet Alex and out of the Storm Cat mare Incredible Rapture, Incredible Ally has won five of her 14 starts, over $100,000 and was a stakes winner eight races back. Of the mares three foals to race, two of them are winners and this filly is another that looks like a nice purchase.
Well that’s it until next time. Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
