Winning Season Having Exactly That, Wins A.R.S.E. Grade I Feature

You’re smack in the middle of a 20 two year old fillies, getting ready to start into traffic that’s going to make a midtown Manhattan rush hour look like a walk in the park, you’ve only raced in 4 lifetime races before today, you’re in a Grade I race with a half million dollar purse, and your jockey has won an underwhelming 7.5% of his mounts this year. So what do you do?

If you’re Winning Season, a daughter of Lemon Drop Kid from a Private Account mare, you calmly and coolly navigate a stalking pace, keeping within 4 and a half lengths of the leader, then sweep on past that leader to bring home the winner’s share of the $500,000. Pre-race favorite Groomed to Romp T ran an almost flawless race herself, getting to within a head of the leader at the third call, when she seemed ready to take charge, only to have to watch Winning Season pull by her down the stretch. Groomed to Romp T finished hard for the place money.

“We were looking good”, Groomed to Romp T’s jockey D. Silver lamented after the race. “We had cleared Winning Season by a length, and were ready to jump past Rosette (the leader for three quarters of the race). We no sooner go by Rosette than Winning Season had another gear for us. We had a good day, but today, she was just better.”

Rosette held off the hard charging Elusive Infinity to round out the nicely priced trifecta that paid $1,304.60.
