Race ID:3714.7816
With entries having been drawn, a talented field of 9 3yr. old Fillies & Mares are set to run in Saturday’s $500,000 Grade I ***Durocher Rebellion. The ***Durocher Rebellion is schedualed to be contested at the classic American distance of 1 1/4 miles over the Dirt Course and is carded as the 16th and final race on the program, here at Upper New York. With many of these fillies making this their final prep before Breeders Bowl, the race figures to be a very competitive one, with several Grade I winners in the field, led by COSIMO, ROME, and GASHOUSE GANG who combined have accounted for 10 SWs, including 4 Grade Is. So lets take a closer look and see exactly how the race breaks down…
POST #1 KOTTON KANDY (KY)
CRYPTOCLEARANCE x A.P. INDY x NUREYEV
TRAINER: 375stud
RACE RECORD: 10-4-3-0
JOCKEY: F. SOLOMON
ODDS: 6-1
A daughter of the 1987 Florida Derby winner CRYPTOCLEARANCE and out og the stakes-placed Game Mare: UNITAS MILLENIUM was a weekening 2nd in her last start the Grade I Birmingham Stakes run at todays distance of 10f. She has been a little eratic in the past and 10f might not be her best trip. She has shown the ability to set the pace or to come from behind and It will be interesting to see what tactics she will apply today.
DISTORTED HUMOR x A.P. INDY x SPECTACULAR BID
TRAINER: pointblank
RACE RECORD: 17-5-2-4
JOCKEY: P. NATION
ODDS: 6-1
A competitive sort, who’s only major defeats came in Grade I or Grade II company, finds herself in deep water today and she appears to have a long day in front of her.
MEDICEAN x DANZIG x KRIS S.
TRAINER: stormboot2
RACE RECORD: 16-8-4-2
JOCKEY: C. ORZA
ODDS: 5-2
A winner of over 1 million dollars and 5 of her last 6, including 2 Grade Is, this well-bred daughter of MEDICEAN likes to run on the front end and will probably find getting there a little easier than she did in her last.
UNBRIDLED’S SONG x GONE WEST x STORM CAT
TRAINER: amandas
RACE RECORD: 14-6-4-2
JOCKEY: T. KALLOR
ODDS: 6-1
A game stakes win in her last start at 17-1, and posting a career high 105 SP#, may have been a warning shot fired of things to come from this vastly improved filly. But i think the added distance and the step up in class today, may take it’s toll when the running really gets started.
POST #5 ALL MY JUMPING (KY)
BELONG TO ME x SUMMER SQUALL x RAISE A NATIVE
TRAINER: willowisp
RACE RECORD: 10-4-2-2
JOCKEY: D. NABINGER
ODDS: 8-1
Although Stakes-Placed and on the board in 8 out of ten, her lone attempt in Graded Company(The Grade III Jockey Guild Stakes), netted her a 5th, beaten 5 lengths. It will take a huge improvement or a Bus Pass, for her to get into the winners circle today.
MONSUN x SADLER’S WELLS x SECRETARIAT
TRAINER: shades
RACE RECORD: 15-4-2-0
JOCKEY: Z. WALKER
ODDS: 10-1
A late entry, who’s starts have mainly been against allowance company. He is untried at the distance and in his lone start against Graded Company, he finished 5th out of 7 runners, a well-beaten 9 3/4 lengths back. I don’t see him faring much better today.
SMART STRIKE x DANZIG x A.P. INDY
TRAINER: jimcougar
RACE RECORD: 12-7-1-2
JOCKEY: R. RADZINSKI
ODDS: 9-2
A Grade I winner in her last start and coming into the race on a four race win streak, this rapidly improving daughter of SMART STRIKE, out of the Game Mare: MONSTRUO REAL, is in with a big chance today if she can repeat her last. Look for her just off the pace as they turn for home. Is it an omen that the man who this race is named for, played with the 1934 ST. LOUIS CARDINALS also known as the GASHOUSE GANG? hmmmmm
POST #8 ROME (ENG)
DUBAWI x THEATRICAL x RAHY
TRAINER: kevoman2
RACE RECORD: 12-5-5-0
JOCKEY: Z. AYYA
ODDS: 8-1
The daughter DUBAWI and out of the multiply stakes winning Game Mare: ETERNAL CITY, has finished 1st or 2nd in her last seven starts and was a very quick closer in her last, to capture the Grade I Child Focus Stakes at 29-1. She will need to stay a little closer today and hope for some help up front.
CAME HOME x ALYSHEBA x COX’S RIDGE
TRAINER: nblpilgrim
RACE RECORD: 7-3-1-0
JOCKEY: S. NOLES
ODDS: 8-1
This lightly raced daughter of CAME HOME, out of the stakes placed Game Mare: MISS TATIANA is trying Graded company for the first time, is untried at the distance and she is a front runner that will have company. It will take a huge effort today to be in the hunt.
I think race the race is going to come down to the two favorites battling it out down the stretch, with ROME and KOTTON KANDY filling out the rest of the tote-board.
TIPS FROM THE “TEST BARN’: 7-3-8-1
****THE DUROCHER REBELLION is named in honor of an incident that occured while LEO DUROCHER was the manager of the BROOKLYN DODGERS and the following is copied from a portion of the ST. JAMES ENCYCLOPEDIA on POP CULTURE:
In 1939, Durocher became player-manager for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He helped the Dodgers to a National League pennant in 1941 and, in what was perhaps his finest moment in baseball, stymied a 1947 rebellion by some Dodgers players protesting the presence of Jackie Robinson on the team. During spring training, Durocher discovered that several Dodgers were circulating a petition vowing they would never play on the same team as Robinson. Durocher called the team together and told them that Robinson was a great player and would help them to victory. He declared that, Hes only the first, boys, only the first! There are many more colored ballplayers coming right behind him and they’re hungry, boys. They’re scratching and diving. Unless you wake up, these colored ballplayers are going to run you right out of the park. I don’t want to see your petition, I don’t want to hear anything else. This meeting is over!!
