A very experienced and competitive field of 7 runners are set to battle, when they enter the gate here Saturday, in the 12th running of the $50,000 KENBAR RIVER Stakes. This race is for 3 yr. olds and up will be contested over a mile and 3/8ths on the Turf Course, and is carded as the 10th race on the program. We expect a large crowd to be on hand Saturday. The forecast is for a nice sunny with 0% chance of rain and a fast turf course. Lets check out the competitors…
POST #1 – OTTO PLATINUM
MINESHAFT x SAINT BALLADO x UNBRIDLED
RACE RECORD: 27-12-4-4
TRAINER: verona
JOCKEY: R. Ridenour
ODDS: 5-1
This mare who is racing against the boys. Not my favorite angle. The jockey is very experienced but not a great record. But she is a very hard knocking mare, you can’t complain with her win percentage. She made the lead in her last start but faded to 3rd in the last furlong. Shortens up alil but is she good enough? Will be very close to the pace.
POST #2 – VIN DA BONA
VINDICATION x RAINBOW QUEST x DARSHAAN
RACE RECORD: 48-10-8-6
TRAINER: lesonakaJOCKEY: A. Ambrose
ODDS: 16-1
A very nice race horse that I would love to own. But he looks alil overmatched in this spot. Jockey is a young and upcoming superstar. New trainer lesonaka just got this 6 yr. old for his last start. Hoping he likes the turf here in Ohio better than he did the wyoming grass. I will pass on this one.
MILWAUKEE BREW x CONQUISTADOR CIELO x RIBOT
RACE RECORD: 50-10-11-10
TRAINER: hornfrog2
JOCKEY: M. Robertson
ODDS: 7-1
This big brown 6 yr old horse is coming off a win in an allowance race. A very consistent type. Running in the high 90’s his last 7 starts. Jockey M. Robertson may take this one right to the front because of lack of pace in the race. Not this horses favorite running style.
POST #4 – GO FOR ADMIRAL
DYNAFORMER x NOTEBOOK x CUTLASS
RACE RECORD: 41-9-4-8
TRAINER: gowand4
JOCKEY: B. Clayton
ODDS: 7-1
This 5 yr old horse is coming in from 2 dismal efforts. He has the class and sp# numbers to be right there if he can find his best. Jockey B. Clayton is not having a very good year though. Another closer in a race short on speed. I just can’t see a turnaround so I will pass on this one.
POST #5 – SIDEREUS NUNCIUS (IRE)
GALILEO x SEEKING THE GOLD x SEATTLE SLEW
RACE RECORD: 18-5-3-3
TRAINER: jkj
JOCKEY: M. Grunhard
ODDS: 9-2
Anytime leading jockey M. Grunhard picks a horse you better look twice at him. This 4 yr old homebred hasn’t won a race since February. He’s not a frontrunner, but he has run in the 100’s sp#’s in 3 of his last 4 starts. Coming in off a 2nd place effort in his last. He’s a definite player in this one.
GHOSTZAPPER x TURKOMAN x STORM CAT
RACE RECORD: 24-6-9-3TRAINER: knightmare
JOCKEY: L. Ingersoll
ODDS: 3-2
This favorite is coming off a big win in his last. Young superstar L. Ingersoll gets the nod for the ride. This 4 yr. Old colt will be sitting right off the pace and should get a perfect trip. But in my humble opinion this colt likes the dirt much better than the turf. Which makes this race a very good betting race. I really like this colt but I just can’t see him winning.
KINGMAMBO x SADLER’S WELLS x MILL REEF
RACE RECORD: 26-6-8-6
TRAINER: jimch10
JOCKEY: L. Gordon
ODDS: 4-1
Coming in off a huge effort in his last. Jockey L. Gordon is not having his best year but is a very consistent type. This 5 yr old chestnut colt is just another closer in a race with no speed. But looks to be in his best shape of his young career. A huge player in this race.
Race review: In a race without speed, this should be a jockey’s race. With that in mind I have to take our leading jockey here on top. I see SIDERUES NINCIUS sitting very close to the slow pace and drawing off in the final furlong. SADDLE KING closing with a furious effort that will be come up just short. And the favorite KY bred TURKO’S GOLD hanging on for 3rd. With the mare OTTO PLATINUM getting a minor check.
