G1 Breeders’ Bowl Juvenile Preview

A field of 14 battle in this 2 year old showcase. Here is the field:

#1 Sebastian Sallow (GR Simsters) 9/1

Summary: If we strike that 4th place finish out in the Sugar Burden in his 2nd career start then we really see a nice progression. Probably was too short for him there and that seems justified with the way he has handled his two routes. Does like the lead in those as evident by his 5 length lead at one point in his allowance win. He was caught late in the G1 End of the Line by two of them in here. Not sure if a change of tactic is necessary so probably will try and play catch me if you can again. Can they?

#2 Classicalcondition (All-Stars Racing) 10/1

Summary: 6 of 6 finishing in the top two and that was against some big boys. The worry if you want a champion out of him is obviously the fact he loves grabbing that silver. Still makes him a legit threat with those back-to-back-to-back graded seconds in the G2 Vermont, G3 Trixy and G1 End of the Line. I like him better than the odds tell me I should and he was only a neck worse than the favorite here in that last one. Sneaky pick and one I value. Can he get over that hump?

#3 Live A Lil (Drunken Jockeys Club) 12/1

Summary: Wasn’t a very encouraging start to his career with a couple of mediocre hot races. Tried the turf to limited success and even the 6th in the Whosebroadstripes wasn’t at all an eye opener. The route try in August finally proved a success and he followed that up with a very convincing win in the G1 Sparkling Wine pulling away by over two lengths. Second place finisher in that comes back here as well but he wasn’t in the same league as this one. If you just take the last two races, hasn’t he been one of the most dominating?

#4 Guiltless (All-Stars Racing) 10/1

Summary: 3 of 4 wins in his career and the lone second was back in a sprint in June. The last two no one has been close to him and the tactic he used in the win in the G3 Buckeye showed how versatile this one could be. He might need to employ a similar move here but we know he will have lots of talented company in doing so. His speed figure does come up a bit light against this group but will be interesting to see how he performs when he actually gets threatened. Is he sitting on a big effort?

#5 Jackie’s Minister (Universal Racing Club) 12/1

Summary: This one wasn’t shy after his maiden win in the URC First Year Sire Stakes as he jumped right into graded company second time out. It’s been a couple of seconds in the G1 Memorial Day and G1 North Fork that sandwiched a win in the G3 Trixy that shows he can be competitive against this group. Will need to take a bit of a jump in regard to speed figure and sitting a bit farther back like he did in the G3 event could be the answer. Looked more comfortable running that group down (Second place finisher is here). Can he sit a trip he is comfortable with?

#6 On The Up and Out (GR Simsters) 9/1

Summary: Was competitive for those first few starts but obviously was looking for a boost with that turf try. Didn’t really happen but when he got back routing on the dirt the start after it seemed a lightbulb went off. Very solid allowance win followed up with a G3 victory in the Charcoal. Was visually impressive to get up by a head to win but the speed figure also came back high. Another one who is possibly sitting on a trip. Does he have it in him to deliver that same move he did last race? If so, he could be going home a champ.

#7 Astronaut Cadet (Empire State Racing) 10/1

Summary: 3 for 3 lifetime but those all have come in sprints. Will be interested to see how this one adjusts to going long for the first time against a field as talented as this one. The win going 7 furlongs in the G1 Hopeless was a big effort and will be interesting if this one also employs the catch me if you can style. Would love to have seen a route before tackling this. Can he adjust to going two turns for the first time?

#8 Slayer of Crows (GR Simsters) 7/1

Summary: Won 3 of 4 sprinting to start the season, including his first three. The G1 Independence Day in July didn’t go as planned as he ran out of track and only got up for that 6th place finish. Looked like he wanted the extra distance and hasn’t disappointed since his move to routes. The second in the Coke is Bad he showed lots of promise and really built off that performance with the win in the G1 End of the Line last out. Ranked #1 in the game and will look to repeat that last performance. Can the favorite justify his odds?

#9 Curlin Song Cat (No Residency) 11/1

Summary: This one has been handled with patience and really did progress each step along the way. The victory in his last in the G3 Darling-Squash proved it was worth it. He rocketed down the stretch late to win by almost two lengths. The number maybe did come up a bit light but he’s improved with every step and this is the logically next one. The distance will help him out, but the competition does get a bit spicier. Can he keep the upward trend going?

#10 Box Of Invinciblty (GR Simsters) 12/1

Summary: Started on the turf and really didn’t wake up till he was back on the dirt going longer. The win in the NW4L showed he had some promise and followed that up nicely with the second in the G1 Sparkling Wine. I guess the bad news is he was almost 3 lengths behind the winner that day and that one is back here. Will have to look to turn the tables if he wants the win, but the extra distance gives him an outside chance of that. Can he flip the script?

#11 The Falling Tide (Drunken Jockeys Club) 9/1

Summary: Started his career on the turf and even after the switch to dirt didn’t really get that signature win until his 8th start. Sure, he ran some competitive races, but the win in the G3 Cryogenics is by far the best of the bunch. He led them all the way around, something he couldn’t do in the G3 Trixy (5th place finish) the race before. Isn’t known for making up ground late so figure his strategy (Not the only one in this field) will be to try to get the lead early. Is he fast enough to get that done?

#12 Immortality Medium (Elite Racing Club) 19/1

Summary: Longest shot on the board has won 3 of 5 including the G1 Independence Day sprinting back in July. He made a nice move in his last coming third in the G1 North Fork by ½ length. It wasn’t that he couldn’t make up ground, it was that the top two finishers in that out kicked him by a touch down the stretch. They are here for this one so he will need to turn the tables on them to get it done here. No one in this field winning would surprise me and that includes this “longshot”. Can he surprise the oddsmakers?

#13 Business Front (All-Stars Racing) 9/1

Summary: Hasn’t finished outside of the top two in his four career races and it isn’t like those haven’t been challenging. The second in the Whosebroadstripes in his second race of his career raised eyebrows as that was a big figure for that time of year. His first go against graded company was a nice second in the G2 Hoserhead (Losing to Soul Fire who is the #1 sprinter in this age group). The route proved to be a success with the win in the G1 North Fork. The second and third place finishers from that come back here. He’s answered every challenge before so hard to count him out in this one. Can he keep it rolling?

#14 Recognize Game (All-Stars Racing) 8/1

Summary: Lightest raced out of all of these as this will only be his 3rd career start. Jumped right into graded company second out with the 2nd in the G3 Charcoal. Winner is also in here but figure with that speed figure so early in his career he has every right to improve. I guess with the limited sample size it also could be an outlier, so the big question for this one is whether he is trending up or will he bounce off that big effort?
