dunn preview – erc no nay never

Dubai (UAE)
Saturday, October 14, 2023 — 3:20 PM EST
Stakes – Purse $100,000
Restricted to 4+ Year Olds
5.5 furlongs on Turf

Today we are at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai for the running of the ERC “NO NAY NEVER”, a 5.5 furlong race on the turf for four-year olds and older.  This race features a field of nine and presents  the best sprinters that the residency has to offer. They will be competing for a purse of $100,000 and the winner will also collect the lion’s share of the stakes bonus points awarded, which will determine a club champion at year end. Four of the entries have won ten or more races in their career so this is going to be a great race with lots of speed and it could come down to a photo finish at the wire.

Here is a closer look at the field:

This five-year old son of SEA THE MOON out of the Sim Mare BUDA’S LIGHT has finished in the money in twenty-four of his twenty-nine career starts with an impressive fifteen wins. He has run almost exclusively at Route distances since being claimed by the ownership group in March of last year and has had great success. Last time out he dropped down to this distance and responded with a runner-up finish and was beaten by just a neck. He ran 104 speed in that race and may need a jump in speed if he wants to compete with this group. Could be a nice long shot pick as he competes out of the five hole.

This four-year old son of WALDGEIST out of the Sim Mare ALICE LIDDELL was picked up at a claimer two back when he finished third at an eight and a half furlong race in Iowa. In his first start wearing the dunn silks, he had a win at this distance and impressed with 110 speed. He should be in the mix here and will look to bring the ownership group its second straight ERC finish on the board.

This four-year old scratch bred son of UNCLE MO (x STREET CRY x DANZIG) recently made the switch to the turf after starting his career with fifteen straight races on the dirt. In his three turf starts he has a runner-up and two wins. Last time out he finished second at the “Flyphards Event Turf Dash” where he ran 100 speed at this same distance. He looks for his second ERC win here as he took home the “Quality Road” last May when he went gate to wire and busted 106 speed.

This five-year old scratch bred son of NOT A SINGLE DOUBT (x DYNAFORMER x NUREYEV) has ten wins in his career including a win at this same distance at the “G3 Shakers Town” two back when he ran 109 speed and outdueled ANGASTON to win by a quarter length. Last time out he went gate to wire and blazed 114 speed at the five and a half furlong “Soozene Turf Sprint”. He will be one of the favorites here and might be tough to beat.

This four-year old son of OASIS DREAM out of the Sim Mare ISCHIA was picked up at a claimer in late May and in his two starts since, he has had a win and a runner-up finish. Last time out he went gate to wire in a 106 speed win at a seven and a half furlong Allowance Race in Italy. He will likely go out to the front early and try to outrun the rest of the field.

This four-year old son of HARRY ANGEL out of the Sim Mare HERES YOUR BIGSHOT makes the  first Stakes start of his career following a win last time out at Allowance Race in Japan where he ran 100 speed over a six furlong track. He will probably look to stay near the back of the pack in the early going and should have lots in the tank as they head for home. Two of his four career wins have come at this same distance.

#2

This four-year old son of BALLET PRINCE out of the Sim Mare EVIL HEARTBEAT has finished in the money in twenty of his twenty-five career starts including ten wins and third place finishes at G2 and G3. He won the ERC “I Am Invincible” as a two-year old and should have plenty of speed to win here against this group too although he tends to fare better at longer distances.

This four-year old son of BRICKS AND MORTAR out of the Sim Mare SECRET KITTEN won the “ERC Frankel” as a two-year old and since then has won a Grade 3 and three Grade 2 Stakes. He comes in off a third place finish at a mile Allowance Race in South Korea where he ran 110 speed. His only start at this distance came when he broke his Maiden in May of 2020 and most of his success has come at a mile so I am not sure how he will respond here.

This four-year old son of CAMACHO out of the Sim Mare DANCING SHIRLEY has made two G3 starts in his last three races which resulted in tenth and ninth place finishes. Sandwiched in between those two starts, he impressed with a big 109 speed win at a mile Allowance Race in Indiana. Five of his seven career wins have come at nine furlongs or greater so I am not sure how he will handle this short distance.
