G1, Dell Web Oaks

This Sunday we will be looking at a race that will be headlining the card in California, the G1, Dell Web Oaks.  This race will be across the firm turf and will be at the distance of 9 furlongs for 3 year old fillies only.  This race has drawn a field of thirteen horses, all of which have at least one Listed Stakes win or better placing to their credit.  This appears to be a very competent field of competitors which should make for an exciting race this weekend.  The morning line odds have been released and the post positions have been drawn.  Let us now take a preview of the thirteen fillies who will be running in the G1, Dell Web Oaks.

This is a Bay Filly (SEA THE STARS x DUBAWI (IRE) x A.P. INDY) that has only had two misses hitting the boards in her ten career starts and those came early in her 2 year old season.  Two starts back she came in second in the G1, Wooly Mammoth 2000.  She was then sent out here in California to make her most recent start going 10 furlongs in the G1, The United Oaks.  She gave another good performance for the owner as she closed nicely down the final stretch to get up for the win by one stride with a 107 speed rating.  She looks to make it back-to-back G1 wins this Sunday when she heads out representing the GR Simsters residency.

Next, we have this Bay Filly (FRANKEL (GB) x DUBAWI (IRE) x SADLER’S WELLS) that is on a hot streak as she comes into Sunday’s race with four wins in a row.  Two starts back she would get a big win in the G1, The Saint Larry.  In her most recent start, she would be seen on the track in Deauville going 12 furlongs in the G2, The Mallrat.  She wasted no time putting this field away by almost a five length win at the wire with a 94 speed rating.  This horse tends to stalk the pace but does not mind running on the lead.  These are the expectations this Sunday when she heads over to her gate draw representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

3TROLLING ATLANTISIRE3Fdeyoto8W Desantis7471%$556,48568.0013/1

Here we have a Bay Filly who is a scratch bred (CAMELOT (GB) x KINGMAMBO x DYNAFORMER) that found a nice win two starts back going 10 furlongs in the G1, Wooly Mammoth 2000.  She would then make her way here to California for her most recent start going 10 furlongs in the G1, The United Oaks.  She seemed to never find the spot she wanted as she broke out of gate 11 and she would never be a factor crossing the wire well back in eighth with a 97 speed rating.  The owner likes the gate position for his horse this weekend and is looking for her to rebound when she heads out representing the Midas residency.

4REGAL CONCUBINEGB3FgivenjokeD Givins10680%$721,76590.139/1

This is a Brown Filly (KINGMAN x A.P. INDY x AWESOME AGAIN) who is out of the HOF mare, Alayaya. This filly has starts on both the dirt and the turf and her five most recent starts have been trips on the turf.  Three starts back she had a gate to wire trip for the win in the G3, Irish 1000 Guineas Trial.  She followed that up with another win in the G1, The French 1000 Guineas.  She then made her most recent start in Berkshire where she would go 8 furlongs in the G1, The Cremation Stakes.  The kiln was not lit on this day for her as she struggled throughout the race.  She crossed the wire in ninth and was never a factor.  She had four straight wins prior to that race and the owner looks for her to get things back on track this weekend when she comes out to represent the GR Simsters residency.

Coming out next will be this Bay Filly who is a scratch bred (DUBAWI (IRE) x NUREYEV x FRANKEL (GB)) that two starts back would get the win here in California in the G2, Full Moon Handicap.  She would then make her most recent start again here in California going 10 furlongs in the G1, The United Oaks.  She got a good break out of the gate and headed to the front.  She would hold that lead until she was run down late and would cross the wire in second with a 106 speed rating.  This horse has eleven prior starts and has only missed hitting the boards one time and that came early on in her career as a two year old.  The owner is looking for another good performance out of his filly this weekend when she heads out of the paddock representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

6LITTONKY3FmkracingA Jolly75100%$217,43018.316/1

This is a Bay Filly (CANDY RIDE x STREET CRY x ESKENDEREYA) that started her career on the dirt.  She had never missed the boards and had picked up a couple of wins on the dirt as well.  But in April of this year, she was given a start on the turf, and she liked it.  She has three starts and three wins on the turf coming into Sunday’s race and two of those starts were in Listed Stakes races.  Her most recent start would be in Florida going 9 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Cielo Dancer Turf Filly Special.  The jockey moved her into second by the third call and she would challenge for the lead down the stretch.  She got the job done as she got the win by three quarters of a stride with a 109 speed rating.  This filly will be making her first graded start as she takes a big jump in class when she heads out this Sunday representing the Empire State Racing residency.

7IRISH PRADOAUS3FdydaltbargainF Gossett11282%$373,20551.006/1

Next, we have this Bay Filly (KASPERSKY (IRE) x EL PRADO x GALILEO (IRE)) who has had six graded starts in a row without a win, but she has been close several times.  Three starts back she ran third in the G1, The Irish 1000 Guineas.  She came back out and never factored in the G1, The Cremation Stakes.  Then came her most recent start in Hong Kong where she would travel 8.5 furlongs in the G2, Pioneer Boulevard Cup.  She was closing nicely down the stretch but just missed chasing down the filly on the lead.  She would cross the wire in second just a half length back with a 108 speed rating.  She heads to California this weekend and the owner is in hope this 9 furlong distance is what she is looking for when they head out in the post parade representing the Universal Racing Club residency.

8WILD EYED WONDERIRE3Fchampions2C Shoemaker8687%$314,04537.0010/1

This is a Bay Filly who is a scratch bred (SEA THE STARS x DYNAFORMER x NUREYEV) two starts back would get the best win of her career in the G3, The Wynn Point.  She then came back out for her most recent start here in California in the G1, The United Oaks.  She did not seem to favor the 10 furlong trip and would never factor in this race with a 94 speed rating.  The owner is in hope that falling back to this 9 furlong distance on Sunday will again spark her interest with a rebounding effort.  If she has a good trip this time out, look for her to stay close to the front just off the lead when she breaks from her gate representing the Old School Racing Stables.

9DELETED THEMFR3FhorseysV Jef9478%$244,48526.0014/1

Next, we have this Bay Filly who is a scratch bred (WOOTTON BASSETT (GB) x DANEHILL x RAINBOW QUEST) that three starts back would run a good race going 9 furlongs in the G3, The Longest Walk.  She would then not factor in her next race the G1, The Saint Larry.  She then came out for her most recent start in New Jersey going 8.5 furlongs in the G3, The Hot Springs where she would try to close from over 10 lengths back at the third call as she turned down the stretch.  She made a good effort, but it would not quite be enough as she missed the boards in fourth with a 102 speed rating.  This horse seems to like the 9 furlong distance and thus I am not surprised to see her make her way to California for this race on Sunday.  She will need to have her best effort in tow when she heads out this weekend and over to her gate representing The Mecca residency.

10FLASHY STARSIRE3Famir1739M Olsen10250%$129,19717.0018/1

Here we have a Bay Filly (SEA THE STARS x CAMELOT (GB) x DANZIG) that picked up a Listed Stakes win three starts back in the Ks Panache Turf Filly Route.  This came across a track listed as “yielding” turf.  She would not factor in her next start in the G3, The Cleopatra.  She then came out in Spain to go 9.5 furlongs for her most recent start on a track listed as “good” turf in a Listed Stakes, Battle Tough Turf Memorial.  She was cruising back in fourth at the third call and would make up some more ground as they came down the stretch to get up for a second place finish with a 105 speed rating.  This filly has run her best two career starts on the wet grass, but she will not get that this Sunday at post time when she heads out of the paddock representing the Elite Racing Club residency.

11ZARRATUTAIRE3FerdiyaN Bonus13669%$275,00032.508/1

Next, we have this Bay Filly who is a scratch bred (CHURCHILL (IRE) x INVINCIBLE SPIRIT (IRE) x DEEP IMPACT) that three starts back would get a third place finish in the G2, Celine Stakes.  She followed that up with another third place finish in a Listed Stakes, Jaded Lovers Turf Filly Route.  In her most recent start, she would be seen in Arkansas going 8.5 furlongs in a $40500 NW1s Allowance.  She was all business as she nailed down the win by two and three quarters with a 98 speed rating.  The owner will send out his graded placing filly this Sunday and needs her to show up with a good performance at a distance he is confident that she likes.  She gets the call to come to California this weekend and come out in the post parade representing the East-West Connection residency.

12KARAMA CENTRALKY3Fxpansion94W Cahill9489%$165,25118.508/1

This is a Bay Filly (NOT THIS TIME x DUBAWI (IRE) x DANZIG) that has nine prior career starts and has only been off the boards one time and that came when she ran on the dirt back in December of her two year old season.  After that miss on the boards, she would be transitioned over to the turf of which she has thus far embraced.  Two starts back she had a second place finish in a Listed Stakes, Flambeau Turf Filly Route.  Her most recent start then came in New York where she would go 8.5 furlongs in the G2, The Lake Georgina.  She was back in second throughout the early going of the race, but in her stretch run she would lose her spot and fall back to third when she crossed the wire with a 109 speed rating.  This horse will be making her second graded start of her career this weekend and showed the last time out that she can compete at the graded level.  She can certainly go this 9 furlong distance on Sunday and the owner is in hope she can challenge this field when she heads over to the turf at post time representing the Midas residency.

13TIFFANY WATSONGB3Fbeerkeg1R Hansen11473%$887,075146.0011/1

Breaking from the far outside gate will be this Bay Filly that is a scratch bred (FRANKEL (GB) x DANEHILL x SADLER’S WELLS) who three starts back would pick up her first G1 win in the G1, Vermont Is 4 Lovers.  Her next start in the G1, Sydney Oaks she would finish off the boards in fifth.  Her most recent start would be in South Africa where she would go 10 furlongs in the G1, Wooly Mammoth 2000.  She put up a fight in this race but again would finish off the boards with a fourth place finish and a 101 speed rating.  After two off the board starts in a row the owner is in hope his G1 winning filly can put it together here in California this Sunday when she heads over to her post draw representing the Drunken Jockey Club.

Good luck to all owners and horses!

Skippy’s Watch List

1-Demogalactic:  Coming off a G1 win last time out.  Can she make it two in a row?

5-Winds Of Fire:  Has a good record coming into this race.  Can she keep up the good work?

12-Karama Central:  Has been running well and found the boards in her first graded start. Does she do it again?

Tarton’s Long Shot

2-Showmethevangogh:  This filly has shown she likes to win in her recent starts and has four wins in a row coming into this Sunday’s race.  She is going off at 11/1 in the morning line and thus she could make us a little money on those exotic tickets if she can find a spot on the boards.  She has won at this 9 furlong distance in an Allowance race four starts back so the distance should be in her wheelhouse.  All her starts this season have led her to the winner’s circle.  Let’s give her a little support at the betting windows this Sunday in California.
