New Zealand Preview
Welcome to New Zealand for the weekly preview the stakes race this week is
1 138900 ROCK AND A PRAYER(JPN) mothership P Chamberlin 7/1
Least fancied of the 4 this colt trained by Fortune500 has very strong breeding being by ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE) x DYNAFORMER x CAERLEON this breeding smacks of turf distance success and this colt was claimed by his current owner last start it may prove one of the best claims in a while if he pulls this off.
2 146559 ANOTHER DUD(ENG) jkj4 F Inzamam 6/5
Equal favourite for this he is a colt by SHIROCCO (GER) x SECRETARIAT x DEPUTY MINISTER another well bred runner he has the performance to back it up.
Trained by Rockriver Stables his wins include the Chem Lawn Special-G2 five starts back a repeat of that would see him go close to winning here.
3 64545 PIUME DI CRISTALLO(IRE) borderburg M Shaw 7/2
The only filly in the race trained by Gorytus Stables she has been a revelation she is a bargain bred being by MILAN (GB) x PERPENDICULAR(GB) x GORYTUS and what a return she hays made for her breeder 12 starts 2 wins 8 placing and she will add to that tally here with at least a strong place chance.
4 141540 WORDS AND MUSIC(KY) estreet O Rann 6/5
The co-favourite for this he is by BORREGO from ORGANIC PROJECT a grand producer who has left 4 stakes winners and 1 graded winner from 7 foals including BIG BONES BILLY and GYPSY ANGEL(IRE) this horse has won 4 from 13 for Zman Stables including The PIGEON MONEY Stakes-Stk over 1 mile as a 2yrold.

A New Zealand Stallion Preview
Seeing we have such a small field let look at another (NZ) sire to watch
13634 KEEPER (AUS)
Real life
“Keeper has sired two Group 1 winners, Insouciant and Keepa Cruisin, who have also both won Group 3 races, and is the sire of ten individual stakes peformers. (Figures as at 24 May 08)
He has also produced Group 2 winner Keep the Passion.
Keeper now has 78 individual winners. In New Zealand his winners have amassed over $1.7 million in stakes.
Keeper filly, Insouciant, was named New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year and he leads the New Zealand Three Year Old Sires List for the 2007-08 season and sits in sixth place on the NZ General Sires List.
His largest grouping of foals is from mares of the Sir Gaylord/Turn-To sire line (most of them by Sir Tristram and his sons Kaapstad and Zabeel). This group of mares have already produced ARC Royal Stakes Gr.2 winner Keep the Passion (ex Impassion by Sir Tristram).
Keeper’s other stakes horses are from dams by Marooned (by Mill Reef), Desperate Dee (by Forlorn River), Far Out East (by Raja Baba), and Broad Reach (by Zephyr Bay).
There is a trend in Keeper’s stakes horses for duplication to Secretariat. Keep the Passion is inbred to Somethingroyal, dam of Secretariat. Sender is inbred to Nasrullah and Princequillo, who are grand-sires of Secretariat, and Keeper On is inbred to Bold Ruler, the sire of Secretariat. If you own a mare with Secretariat in the pedigree, Keeper is worth considering.
Sires like Storm Cat, Volksraad, Dehere, Chief’s Crown, Elusive Quality, Honor Grades or Gone West are all sources of Secretariat blood. The Sir Gaylord line will duplicate Secretariat’s dam Somethingroyal, which can be achieved by using mares by Sir Tristram and his sons such as Kaapstad, Zabeel, Grosvenor or Marauding. Other Sir Gaylord sires include Habitat and great-grandson Gold Brose, who is establishing himself as a sound broodmare sire.
Keeper is a son of Danehill, so looking at those combinations that have worked well with Danehill will also expand the group of mares who are likely to work well with him. Danehill’s best results have come with mares by Grosvenor, Vaguely Noble, Rainbow Quest, Machiavellian, Luskin Star, Vain, Sharpen Up, Mill Reef, Roberto, Canny Lad and Mr Prospector.
Keeper will stand at a fee of $15,000 plus GST this season. “
He has proven to be a top producer and has a great starters to winners % leaving early 2yrolds and the they mature to classic distance 3yrolds
KEEPER (AUS) (Bay 1997-Stud 2002). 7 wins, SAJC Goodwood H., Gr.1. Sire of 124 rnrs, 71 wnrs, inc. SW Insouciant (New Zealand One Thousand Guineas, Gr.1), Keepa Cruisin, Keep the Passion, Sender – Cute Horse (H.K.), Keep the Message, SP Twoeezy, Flypass, Keeper On, Macau Warrior, Sequential and of Shariat’s on Fire, Bargain Hunter, Keepabit, Keeperinthemyst, Anna Joy, Artique, Book Keeper, Bouncer, Classic Collection, Dane Keeper, etc.
IN THE SIM
He has been used only 26 times in 5 years and has left 9 winners who have won $558,233 his progeny have and huge turf route success rate 94% turf 74% route he has not left any stakes winners he has not been used with the more expensive sires but has left winners like NIMBIN(AUS) who won 8 BUSTER BLUTH(AUS) who also won 8
Being by DANEHILL with PLEASANT COLONY as his dam sire he has strong bloodlines and at less than 40bp Sunday he is worth a breed with your favourite long distance turf dam sire good luck with y our breeding im going to breed one this week
Sire suggestion are pretty wide really those mentioned above in real life chapter might not be a bad start I think maybe THEATRICAL(IRE) or MILL REEF line sires might work well
